Chapter 124
Lila pretended not to notice, holding back a smile as she lowered her head to eat.
After dinner, when she came out of the kitchen after cleaning up, she was eating a banana.
Walking into the living room, Lila saw Alexander sitting on the sofa looking at documents. She didn't quite understand why he wasn't using his spacious and comfortable study, but instead put the documents on the coffee table and had to bend over to reach them. She casually asked, "Don't you have a study? Why are you working in the living room?"
"This is my place. Do I need your permission to decide where I work?"
"I was just asking."
Does he have to be so mean?
The doorbell rang.
As soon as Lila heard it, she quickly threw the banana peel into the trash can next to the sofa and ran toward the door.
Alexander watched her eager, bouncing figure, narrowing his eyes slightly. Has her lover found his way to Island Mansion?
He stared straight at the door, with a look that said "let's see what you two can do right in front of me."
But when Lila opened the door, what came into view was actually a delivery person wearing a FedEx uniform?
Alexander immediately frowned.
She ordered something online?
What did she buy?
When he realized what he was thinking, Alexander quickly looked away, then convinced himself that what she bought was none of his business!
Lila signed for the package and closed the door.
Since this was a gift for Alexander, she didn't go to the living room to open it in front of him.
She stood in the entryway, used a box cutter to open the package, then checked the item inside. After confirming there were no problems, she put the box into the gift bag provided by the seller, held it behind her back, and walked step by step toward Alexander in the center of the living room.
Lila stood beside Alexander. Seeing he was still working, she tentatively asked, "Honey, is your work urgent?"
"Yes."
"Can I have two minutes of your time?"
Alexander stared at the document, but the words on it weren't actually registering in his brain. Even so, when he responded to Lila, his voice was still cold and aloof, "What for?"
Until he heard Lila say, "I bought you a gift. Do you want to see it?"
Alexander's tense expression instantly softened considerably.
He looked up, tossed the document in his hand onto the coffee table, leaned back against the sofa, and raised his eyes to look at her, seeming surprised, "A gift?"
"Yeah."
Lila responded, then brought out the gift bag from behind her and handed it to him, "See if you like it."
Alexander glanced at the gift box, still not quite sure.
It wasn't a holiday, not a festival, and not his birthday. Why was she suddenly giving him a gift?
A bribe?
Still, he raised his elegant hand and took it. As he took out the box, he couldn't help but jab at her, "Suddenly giving me a gift. What do you want?"
Lila rolled her eyes.
Even giving a gift makes him suspicious?
She stood up and bent over to grab the gift box, "If you don't want it, give it back. Why say such mean things?"
Alexander moved his hand to the side, easily avoiding her, "Once you give it to me, it's mine. Want to take it back? No way."
Lila secretly sneered in her heart, mimicking Alexander's cold laugh.
Lila stepped back and sat down again.
She never really intended to take it back anyway. She was just teasing him.
After Alexander opened the box and found a lighter inside, he suddenly laughed.
Lila couldn't understand what he was laughing about and asked somewhat nervously, "This is a thank-you gift for helping me at the dinner table yesterday. I saw that you smoke, so I bought you a lighter."
