Chapter 122
He was born into a top-tier wealthy family like the Sinclairs, so he must have received the best education growing up. He should at least have basic moral values like respecting the elderly and caring for the young, right?
Although Alexander didn't treat her well, Lila knew it all stemmed from being forced by his grandmother to marry her. He was just taking it out on her.
He had said it himself just now, his dislike for her had nothing to do with her grandmother.
So if they went to see Grandma, he should be quite polite, right?
Even though she thought this way, Lila still felt a bit anxious about how Alexander would act when he met her grandmother.
Ten minutes later, the car stopped at Island Mansion.
Lila and Alexander got out of the car together.
She walked behind him, and the gauze-wrapped spot on Alexander's head naturally came into view.
Had all those people at today's social event seen his head injury?
How come no one asked him about it?
Lila thought about it...
Maybe everyone was smart enough not to ask questions or show concern about things they didn't understand, to avoid bringing up something that shouldn't be talked about.
After entering, Lila stood in the entryway, changing her shoes while looking at Alexander: "Boss, don't you need to change the dressing on your head wound tomorrow?"
He glanced at her and asked coolly, "What's it to you?"
Lila was stumped.
Why couldn't Alexander ever just talk nicely?
Sticking to her principle of not arguing with him, Lila patiently suggested, "Should I take you to the hospital tomorrow to change the dressing?"
He looked at her sideways. "Is this supposed to be atonement?"
Lila tilted her head, the smile she gave him playful and cute. "Actually, I didn't really do anything wrong, did I? You were trying to force me, I was defending myself, so taking you to the hospital isn't atonement. It should be called,"
She thought for a moment before cleverly saying, "It's my duty as your driver."
Alexander looked at the smile on her face and suddenly leaned closer to her.
Lila instinctively backed away, her spine pressing against the door panel, her innocent and timid eyes looking at him. "Boss, what's wrong?"
Alexander's eyes showed a hint of danger, and he let out a disdainful snort, "Lila, was I too nice to you today? Is that why you're turning around and denying everything, twisting attempted murder of your husband into self-defense?"
What attempted murder of her husband?
"Murder" was too strong a word.
"Husband" was barely acceptable though.
Lila knew better than to push her luck and immediately gave in. "Okay, okay, okay, taking you to the hospital to change the dressing is atonement. Boss, are you satisfied now?"
He looked at her coolly, repeating with a questioning tone. "Boss?"
"Dear," Alexander let out a cold snort.
Lila didn't know what to say.
Why did he have to snort like that?
Why couldn't he just smile?
The two stared at each other, and the air suddenly became quiet.
Just then, a phone ringtone rang out.
Lila took her phone out of her bag, and after seeing the caller ID, Alexander's subtle hostility toward Ethan from last time instantly flashed through her mind.
She pressed the phone screen against her chest, moved aside, walked around Alexander, and only then answered: "Hello, what's up?"
"Tomorrow's Saturday, are you free?"
"Tomorrow?"
If visiting Grandma the day after tomorrow counted as a day off, then tomorrow would be a work day. Although she didn't know if there would be any driving work to do tomorrow, since she hadn't reported to Alexander a day in advance, she should probably be considered busy, right?
Lila answered honestly, "Tomorrow's my work day, what's going on?"
"I wanted to ask you for a favor."
"What kind of favor?"
After asking, she added, "Let me see if I can find time to help you out."
