Chapter 71
Throughout the journey, Alexander sat in the passenger seat with his eyes closed.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the Sinclair Group parking lot.
Lila looked at the parking space and felt a bit intimidated, thinking she couldn't park properly.
She originally wanted to ask Alexander for help, but seeing him sitting there motionless with his eyes still closed, she figured that backing into the spot might actually be easier than talking to Alexander.
Lila looked away, shifted into reverse, and turned the steering wheel. She wanted to back into the parking space while Alexander had his eyes closed, but after several attempts, she still couldn't manage it.
"Are you planning to practice parking in the Sinclair Group parking lot?" Alexander's voice was cold, displeased, and carried a hint of reproach.
The car was now positioned sideways across the lane thanks to Lila's maneuvering.
Hearing him speak, she didn't dare turn the wheel anymore. "No, I thought you were resting and didn't want to disturb you."
"Didn't dare?"
His tone rose slightly with disdain. "There are things you don't dare to do?"
"Yes, there are many things I don't dare to do."
Alexander looked at her acting all careful now, but earlier at the restaurant, she'd been bold enough to tell Chris he was her boss, not her husband!
Clearly, she looked down on him!
Alexander questioned her with a dark expression, "Why did you tell Chris I was your boss?"
Lila looked innocent. "You are my boss. Was I wrong?"
"Besides that, I'm also your husband."
"I know. I actually wanted to say you were my husband too. After all, having such a handsome husband who's also the CEO of a multinational company is my honor, the greatest blessing of my twenty-some years."
She flattered Alexander first, then explained, "But just as I was about to say it, I remembered you told me not to tell others about our relationship. Also, last night you only told me to let Chris know I was married. I did everything according to your wishes today, so why do you still seem unhappy?"
Having said all this, Lila pressed her lips together slightly and asked tentatively, "Is it wrong to be obedient too?"
Alexander looked her up and down, almost convinced by her seemingly sincere smooth talk.
But who was he?
The undefeated king of Oceancrest City's business world, the helmsman of the Sinclair Group. If there was anyone in this world whose schemes could escape his notice, that person hadn't been born yet!
Alexander stared at Lila with a dark gaze. "Aren't you tired of racking your brain to come up with all this to deal with me?"
She had a vague sense of trouble. "Boss, what... what do you mean?"
"You like Chris, don't you?"
Lila answered without thinking, "No, I don't like him. He's not my type."
"Answering so quickly—guilty conscience?"
"No."
Alexander pressed on, "If he's not your type, then who is?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Alexander let out a long "Oh." "I remember now. You like good-tempered pushovers, like useless idiots who can't make any money, like incompetent puppies whose heads are full of nothing but how to please you."
Lila's expression grew worse with each sentence he spoke.
Alexander had interpreted everything she'd said to Chris at the restaurant in the worst possible way.
He was terrible, with a vicious tongue.
He clearly had a whole list of problems himself but had zero self-awareness. Instead, he was an expert at crushing other people's confidence and enthusiasm.
