Chapter 59

Chapter 59

Lila frowned slightly.

Why did that sound kind of improper?

She was talking about the car, but was he?

Lila didn't reply to him again, though Alexander did slow down his driving a bit.

She felt like her emotions were going through dozens of ups and downs every single day.

Good thing she was still young; otherwise Alexander would really scare her into having a heart attack.

After returning to Island Mansion, Lila washed her hands and went to the kitchen to cook.

While she was cooking, Alexander sat in the living room smoking several cigarettes.

As he smoked, his deep gaze stayed fixed on that busy figure in the kitchen, his eyes dark and unreadable, as if plotting something.

When dinner was ready, Lila called Alexander to eat.

This time he came readily, striding into the dining room on his long legs.

As he sat down, Alexander picked up his utensils and ate without nitpicking everything like before.

Lila ate quietly too, thinking to herself,

Alexander actually keeping that mouth of his shut today was truly merciful of him.

Without criticism or sarcasm, eating the food she made herself, the frustration in her chest finally eased a bit.

But Alexander didn't see it that way.

In his eyes, Lila was usually quite talkative, but today she was holding back from talking to him.

Was she still holding a grudge?

Alexander felt annoyed and said coldly, "Usually you talk plenty, why have you gone mute today?"

Lila didn't look up at him. She swallowed her food and said flatly, "No talking while eating or sleeping. You said that."

Alexander was speechless.

He was instantly blocked from saying anything.

Yes, he said that, but he didn't say she could use his own words against him!

Alexander chewed his food harder and asked her condescendingly, "Do you know why Grandma forced me to get married?"

Lila answered without thinking, "No idea."

Actually, she knew. It was nothing more than Grandma thinking he was at the age to marry and have children, yet he had no intention of getting married and kept waiting for a woman Grandma didn't really like, so Grandma simply took matters into her own hands and arranged his marriage.

But right now, she had no desire to communicate with him.

So she didn't want to say much.

But Alexander inexplicably became patient, "Grandma wants to hold a great-grandchild."

Lila paused while eating.

She had to wonder why he was telling her this.

Seeing her freeze, Alexander's lips curved slightly as he steered her toward his goal, "You've always been so obedient and well-behaved in front of Grandma. She wants a great-grandchild. Are you willing to help her fulfill that wish?"

Lila looked up and met his gaze, "A great-grandchild isn't something I can have just because I want one. Besides, even if I wanted to, I can't do it alone. I believe Mr. Sinclair, as someone with severe germaphobia, wouldn't want to touch a wife he has no emotional connection with."

Alexander's deep eyes fixed on her, his tone ambiguous, "What if I'm willing?"

She was slightly stunned, "Are you serious?"

Alexander raised his eyebrows slightly and dropped two words without hesitation, "Of course."

Lila's heart sank.

After a few seconds, she said in a measured tone, "Whether you're serious or not, I won't have a child for you."

Alexander's face immediately darkened, "What do you mean?"

"We have no feelings for each other. It's way too early to talk about children. Mr. Sinclair should be very clear that although we're husband and wife, it's a contract marriage. The contract doesn't say I have to have children. We're getting divorced after a year anyway. Having a child would be unnecessary and burdensome."

"You seem pretty certain we'll definitely divorce after a year?"

Lila's innocent eyes showed some doubt, "Otherwise, should I hope you'll fall in love with me?"
