Chapter 58

Chapter 58

But Alexander pressed the button before Lila could.

The elevator doors opened, and he lifted his chin toward her, gesturing for her to get in.

Lila had no idea what was going through Alexander's mind. Why he would suddenly act like a gentleman and let her experience the "ladies first" treatment.

She said nothing, stepped into the elevator, and quietly retreated to a corner.

During the ride down, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere was pretty weird.

Lila was in a bad mood and didn't feel like talking to him anyway. Actually, she thought this was fine. The silence didn't feel suffocating at all. Instead, it was kind of relaxing and comfortable not having to deal with his sarcasm.

But when they reached the underground parking garage and walked toward the car, she noticed Alexander heading to the passenger side and pulling open the door without hesitation.

Her alarm bells went off immediately.

Rush hour. Was he going to make her drive back again?

Not a single day goes smoothly!

Lila was scared to death.

But then, the next second, Alexander looked at her and tilted his chin toward the passenger seat. "Get in."

Lila was even more confused now.

So Alexander was opening the car door for her?

This was even more horrifying than when he forced a kiss on her.

What was Alexander trying to do?

Lila tiptoed over and reminded him flatly, "I'm the driver. I can't let my boss open the car door for me. Please don't do this again."

"I don't need you to tell me what to do."

Lila had no response to that.

Whatever. At least she didn't have to drive.

She bent down and got into the passenger seat.

Just as she was about to close the car door, Alexander suddenly leaned in, and her heart jumped into her throat.

His burning gaze fixed on her, eyes deep and blue. As he got closer, Alexander's crisp, clean scent came with him. The air heated up, intimate and intoxicating.

Lila was nervous, staring at him numbly, not knowing what he was going to do.

Until she heard the click of a buckle snapping into place.

She looked down and saw the seatbelt that Alexander had pulled over at some point, now fastened.

After buckling the seatbelt, Alexander's gaze fell on Lila's face. Watching her nervous, flustered expression, he smirked slightly. "What, did you think I was going to kiss you?"

Lila's mind was a mess, and she was too frozen to speak.

From her reaction, Alexander could tell he'd guessed right. He scoffed coldly, "In your dreams."

With a heavy sound, the passenger door slammed shut.

Lila snapped back to reality, her face bright red, completely embarrassed.

It was like seeing a demon.

No, worse than seeing a demon.

Even though he didn't kiss her, what did it mean that Alexander personally pressed the elevator button for her, opened the car door, and buckled her seatbelt?

Was he trying to scare her to death?

Alexander had already walked around the front of the car and gotten into the driver's seat.

The car started quickly, backed out of the parking spot, left the underground garage, and merged into traffic.

She'd thought the ride would be silent.

But the car had barely been on the road for five minutes when Alexander's questioning voice rang out. "Who were you chatting with this afternoon?"

Lila instinctively looked at him.

Was he spying on her instead of working?

"Speak!" Alexander said impatiently.

Lila pressed her lips together and answered briefly, "A classmate."

He pressed on, "A guy?"

Lila didn't answer directly, but emphasized, "Just a classmate."

This was clearly an evasive answer, and it made the anger in Alexander's chest burn even fiercer.

The car sped up.

Before marrying Lila, very few things could make Alexander angry or upset. But after marrying her, this woman could set him off at any moment.

He couldn't figure out how she managed to do it.

Lila noticed the car speeding up and looked at him nervously. "Can you slow down? It's dangerous going this fast."

Alexander glanced at her. "You like it slow?"

For some reason, Lila felt like there was a hidden meaning in those words, but she didn't think too deeply about it and just said, "Slower is safer."

Alexander snorted coldly, "I'm the one in control, so naturally I set the pace."
