Chapter 49
Alexander stared at Lila sharply. "What are you standing there for?"
She said in a low voice, "I'm afraid I'll crash your car."
"You weren't afraid yesterday when you got in the driver's seat, and what happened? Didn't the car end up in the shop anyway?"
"It's exactly because of yesterday that I'm traumatized today."
Alexander sneered. "So, you're planning to just quit your driver position at the Sinclair Group?"
Lila fell silent.
Without a word, she opened the navigation app, entered the address for "the Sinclair Group," and clicked "start navigation."
From the app, the system's sweet female voice announced "planning your route to the Sinclair Group." Even after the route was calculated and the directions given, the car remained parked in place, not moving.
Alexander impatiently commanded: "Stop wasting time and drive."
Lila felt the pressure.
But thinking about it, she had a driver's license and knew the basic operations. She just lacked road experience. But Ethan had practiced with her yesterday, and she'd practiced this morning too. She shouldn't let one accident keep her down forever.
Most importantly, if she didn't take this step, Alexander would make her quit the driver position. And if Grandma spoke up for her, Alexander would retaliate and punish her even more severely.
Things had come to this point. Lila had no choice but to go for it!
Lila gritted her teeth and drove the car out.
Alexander leaned back in the passenger seat, watching as the car merged onto the road with normal traffic. He glanced at her. "See, you can drive, can't you?"
"Stop talking." Lila was nervous as hell.
But Alexander was clearly displeased with her impatient attitude, his words carrying a threatening tone: "What did you say?"
Lila gripped the steering wheel and said: "Nothing."
Alexander snorted coldly but didn't give her any more trouble.
For a moment, Lila thought Alexander really trusted her. The passenger seat was the most dangerous spot in an accident.
Yet Alexander sat there so casually, letting a rookie like her drive without worry, not afraid that something might happen and he'd lose his life right there.
Thinking this way, Lila suddenly felt like she carried an extra weight of responsibility on her shoulders.
Lila overcame her mental barrier and carefully drove the multi-million dollar luxury car, finally arriving smoothly at the Sinclair Group's underground parking garage.
However, when it came time to back into a parking spot, she immediately got out of the driver's seat and stood by the car door, her almond-shaped eyes looking at Alexander pleadingly: "You park it. I didn't practice parking today, I really can't do it."
He glanced at her, got out, moved to the driver's seat, and smoothly backed the car perfectly into the spot.
Lila finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Ever since her flash marriage to Alexander, she felt like every day was like getting through a level in a game. This life of walking on thin ice felt like one wrong step could shatter her completely.
After the car was parked, Alexander got out.
Lila silently followed behind Alexander to the elevator area.
She first tactfully pressed the button for Alexander's private elevator, then pressed the button for the public elevator she planned to take.
The private elevator doors opened first.
Alexander walked in and glanced at Lila: "Get in."
"What?"
"To go to the cafeteria for lunch."
Lila understood he was being generous enough to give her a ride.
But Lila waved her hand in refusal: "No need, boss, you go ahead. I'll go later."
"Why so much nonsense?"
"Really, it's not necessary."
Lila didn't want to go to the cafeteria with Alexander and have all the Sinclair Group employees staring, speculating whether she'd seduced Alexander and gotten into his bed to earn the privilege of coming and going with him.
