Chapter 47
The little gestures Lila made standing next to Alexander seemed to please him.
Alexander's lips curved slightly. Though his tone wasn't exactly friendly, it wasn't as bad as before. "What's so interesting about watching someone practice driving?"
"Then why are you here?"
Alexander looked down at Lila and answered her question with another question, "You came out to practice driving without your own car keys, using someone else's car instead. What's that about?"
"I forgot." Lila's voice lacked confidence.
Because she also felt it wasn't quite right to practice with someone else's car.
Although Alexander wasn't particularly nice to her, they were bound by a marriage certificate, which at least made them family.
After speaking, Lila added, "I remembered later, but I was worried you might need the car. Plus Mr. Lucas said he'd teach me with his car, so I didn't go back to get the keys from you."
Having said all that, Lila's eyes brightened slightly. "Did you come to bring me the car?"
"Dream on."
John watched the two of them go back and forth without clarifying why Alexander was actually there, and couldn't help but interrupt. "Look, if you're not here to bring her the car, and you're not here to watch her practice, then what are you here for? Missing your little wife? Just here to chat?"
Lila immediately felt uncomfortable hearing how he referred to her.
Alexander seemed unbothered. Meeting John's gaze, he spoke with an air of superiority, "Didn't you just ask me why I wouldn't teach her to drive myself? I'm here now to answer you. First, you're emotionally unstable, so your teaching probably isn't calm enough. I don't trust it. Second, since I'll be the one sitting in Lila's car in the future, I plan to spend an hour each day personally training her driving skills."
John immediately laughed. "An hour isn't exactly short, is it?"
"You're done here. You can leave now."
"Turning your back on me already?"
"You have something else?"
"Can't I just watch you two? It's not like practicing driving is sleeping. Are you afraid of people watching?"
Lila was speechless.
Before Alexander arrived, John had been talking just fine.
How did he become so unfiltered the moment Alexander showed up?
First "little wife," then talking about "sleeping."
Alexander clearly didn't like his playboy attitude either. After giving him a cold glance, he grabbed Lila's arm and headed toward the car he'd driven there.
John watched the two of them and shook his head.
Married men can't mess with them.
Just as a smile curved his lips, his phone suddenly rang.
John pulled his phone from his pocket, and his brow furrowed when he saw the caller ID.
When he answered, John's usually carefree expression turned cold. "What is it?"
"Mr. Lucas Jr., the new assistant Mr. Lucas hired for you has started. Please come to the office to arrange her work."
"He hired the assistant. Why doesn't he arrange the work himself?"
The person on the other end sounded somewhat awkward: "You are, after all, a company executive."
"What kind of executive am I? One with no real power?"
"Well..."
John hung up. Seeing that the car Alexander and Lila had gotten into was already starting, he returned to his own car and left.
Lila sat in Alexander's car, started it, and drove out.
Alexander, in the passenger seat, observed her driving, and asked casually, "When John was teaching you to drive, did he say anything inappropriate?"
"No."
After denying it, worried he wouldn't believe her, Lila added: "Before you came, he was teaching me very seriously. He even told me not to be nervous, said his car was really sturdy and couldn't be damaged."
Alexander snorted, "And you believed that?"
