Chapter 268
Chapter 268
Alexander's eyes slowly grew complicated, a mix of emotions flickering in them.
Lila noticed the change in his expression but still dared to press on, "Is that right?"
He suddenly laughed carelessly, "What do you think?"
She pressed her lips together and said softly, "I think it is."
Alexander's gaze turned colder as he looked down at her. "You think so? When Arabella said those things to you, is this how you responded to her?"
Lila pursed her lips, her tone becoming more forceful, "In front of her, I definitely wouldn't admit defeat."
"Really? Then what did you say?"
"I told her she doesn’t understand my husband at all. If you don't want to divorce me, even if your ex-girlfriend begs you in tears, it won't change anything."
Alexander hadn't expected her to say something like that.
In his impression, Lila's personality was just like her name, ordinary and gentle. Even if she had conflicts with others, she probably wouldn't say anything too harsh.
However, her confident response to Arabella made him see her in a new light.
Alexander's gaze grew more curious as he stared at her.
After a long moment of eye contact, Lila uncomfortably looked away.
Above her, Alexander asked with a half-smile, "When did Mrs. Sinclair come to understand me so well?"
She spoke with confidence, "Anyway, I feel like you're not the type to be pushed around. Just now when Grandma asked me if I wanted a divorce, didn't you question her back?"
At this point, Lila changed her tone, imitating Alexander's angry and displeased voice. "Do I look like someone who can be pushed around?"
Hearing Lila mimic the way he spoke, he felt even more pleased inside.
Alexander pinched her cheek, "Mrs. Sinclair, you have quite the potential to be a voice actor, hmm?"
"Not really. That's exactly how you just talked to Grandma."
"You've really got my tone down perfectly."
Lila spoke casually, "That's because I talk to you every day. After hearing it so much, naturally I've learned the essence. That's not hard to understand, right?"
Indeed, it wasn't hard to understand.
But Alexander still found it very refreshing.
His wife always seemed able to surprise him and catch him off guard.
Alexander reached out to ruffle her hair and pulled her close by the shoulder as he started walking, "Let's go, let's go home."
Lila matched his pace.
With his arm around her shoulder, they were practically walking in an embrace. Their bodies brushed against each other from time to time. Although separated by fairly thick clothing, being so close, she could always catch his pleasant scent.
She actually really liked the way he smelled. If she could, she'd love to openly lean against him and breathe it in to her heart's content, but they weren't a normal married couple with an emotional foundation—she didn't have that right.
When she realized what she was thinking, Lila's face couldn't help but flush a bit.
God, she was actually fantasizing about Alexander.
Lila let out a soft breath and glanced at him, then suddenly remembered without warning that he still hadn't answered her question.
Would just one word from Celeste mean that even if she was pregnant, she'd still be kicked out?
He had turned the question back on her earlier, and then never answered it.
Lila thought that his silence probably meant he was admitting it.
Her heart suddenly felt sour.
When they reached the car, Lila was still lost in thought.
Alexander opened the passenger door and was about to motion for her to get in when he caught sight of Lila's distracted appearance. He closed the car door, reached out to pull her over and pressed her against the car body, bringing his handsome face close, "Mrs. Sinclair, with that absent-minded look on your face, what are you thinking about?"
