Chapter 267

Chapter 267

Lila's gaze froze for a moment.

Alexander's question stirred up an inexplicable sense of grievance in her heart.

To put it bluntly, the things Arabella said to her were all because Alexander had feelings for someone else. It was because he liked Celeste and not his wife, that gave people the opportunity to target her.

Alexander watched as she stared at him without speaking, and asked again, "Well?"

Lila snapped back to reality and smiled indifferently, "I wouldn't really call it bullying. She just said some nasty things, but Isadora helped me fire back."

He pressed on, "What did she say?"

She mentioned topics related to Celeste.

But Lila had secretly sworn to herself that she would never bring up Celeste to Alexander again on her own.

"Nothing much."

She brushed it off with one sentence and looked at him, "Let's go. I want to go home and sleep for a bit."

As soon as she finished speaking, Lila took a step forward, but her wrist was suddenly pulled back by a force.

She crashed into Alexander's arms without warning.

He straightened her body and stared at her with dark blue eyes, repeating, "I'm asking you, what did Arabella say?"

Alexander's manner was getting a bit aggressive now.

Lila's heart pounded from the sudden closeness, and she stammered, "I can't say it. You'll get angry."

He emphasized patiently, "I won't get angry. Tell me."

"She provoked me, saying you don't like me and that you like Celeste, saying we'll get divorced sooner or later."

"How did you respond?"

She looked away from his gaze uncomfortably and said in a low voice, "I said that right now, I'm Mrs. Sinclair."

A flash of delight crossed Alexander's eyes.

He immediately smiled. "You're absolutely right."

Lila looked at him in surprise, "You're not angry?"

"Why would I be angry?"

"Because Arabella wasn't wrong. You really don't like me. You like your ex-girlfriend, and we really will get divorced after a year."

Alexander's eyes deepened. "Even knowing that, you still said you're Mrs. Sinclair, didn't you?"

Lila couldn't read his emotions from his expressionless face and rushed to explain, "That was just..."

Before she could finish, she saw a different look in Alexander's eyes.

He leaned down slightly, maintaining eye contact at her level. He spoke in a low and tempting voice, "Just what? Do you want to keep me all to yourself?"

What... keep him to herself?

Lila looked at him in alarm.

Because she was so caught off guard, her words came out more smoothly, "No! I only said I'm Mrs. Sinclair to let off steam. Don't worry, when it's time for the divorce, I definitely won't cling to you. I honor my contracts."

Alexander's expression changed abruptly.

Hearing her make such a promise made him angry.

He was, after all, a top-tier CEO famous throughout Oceancrest City. Why wouldn't this woman even try to fight for him?

No ambition or competitive spirit at all!

Alexander suppressed his displeasure and deliberately reached out to touch her face, asking vaguely, "What else did she say?"

"Why are you asking so many questions?"

"Someone bullied my person—should I just turn a blind eye?"

Lila froze slightly.

Her cheek felt the warm touch of his fingertips, her ears heard him say those three words "my person" in a low, powerful voice, and her eyes took in his handsome, perfect face. To say her heart wasn't moved at all in this moment would be a lie.

"She also said..."

Lila recalled those harsh words, her eyes showing an undisguisable sadness, and she repeated them almost mechanically, "Even if I got pregnant with your child, as long as your ex-girlfriend said one word, you'd still divorce me."
