Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Alexander didn't lower his voice when he spoke.

Ethan and Gaia heard everything loud and clear.

Being scolded so harshly by Alexander in front of Ethan and Gaia, Lila's pride was deeply wounded.

Lila suddenly yanked her arm out of his grip and stood there without saying a word, her eyes turning red, looking like she was about to cry.

Seeing this, Gaia slapped Alexander hard. "Your mouth is completely useless. If you can't speak properly, then shut up!"

Ethan looked at Lila with concern. "Lila, are you okay?"

"I'm fine, Ethan. Let me treat you to lunch another day. I don't feel like eating today, is that okay?"

"Of course. I'll treat you next time."

"Thanks."

After saying this, she turned to Gaia. "Grandma, I just remembered I made plans with my friend to go shopping this afternoon. I need to go."

Without waiting for Gaia's response, Lila turned around and walked away quickly without looking back.

After walking some distance, her tears finally fell uncontrollably.

Although this wasn't the first time she'd experienced Alexander's nastiness, today was different. Not only were his words especially harsh, but he said them in front of Gaia and Ethan.

Lila felt so embarrassed and hurt.

Behind her, Ethan glanced at Gaia. "Gaia, I'll go check on Lila."

"No need. Lila was made to cry by my grandson, so my grandson needs to apologize. Ethan, if you have things to do, go ahead." At this point, Gaia pinched Alexander hard. "Why aren't you going to check on Lila right now?"

"Not going."

"Are you going or not? If you don't go, I'll go on a hunger strike!"

Alexander frowned and lowered his voice. "Grandma, that's enough!"

Gaia snorted coldly. "You're the one who's had enough! You hurt that girl's pride, so you must go apologize, or else I'll starve myself to death right at your company entrance!"

Alexander stood there, unmoved.

Gaia kicked him directly. "If you don't move, I'll bash my head against the wall!"

Every sentence was a threat, and she didn't care about his reputation as CEO of the Sinclair Group as she started using her feet. Alexander's face looked terrible, his brow furrowed deeply, his expression dark.

Finally, he straightened his suit and reluctantly went after Lila's retreating figure.

With his long legs, Alexander caught up quickly.

Lila was still crying. Caught off guard by someone suddenly appearing beside her, thinking she almost bumped into them, she moved aside without even seeing who it was.

But then, a cold voice spoke up. "Are you done crying yet?"

Hearing this voice, Lila realized it was Alexander.

She didn't need to think twice to know Gaia must have forced him to come.

Lila ignored him and walked even faster.

Alexander blocked her path in two steps. When he stood in front of her, he saw her red, swollen eyes. She looked pitiful, like a homeless little rabbit.

Alexander cleared his throat lightly, his deep voice somewhat awkward. "I'm talking to you. Didn't you hear me?"

"You're in my way!"

"Standing so close and talking to another man right in front of me. Is it wrong for me to say something to you?"

Their conversation seemed to be on completely different channels.

Lila looked up, meeting his gaze. This somewhat stubborn and resilient look made Alexander feel a bit uncomfortable, and he couldn't help but frown. "What are you looking at?"

"You're not wrong. How could you be wrong? It's all my fault, okay?"

"It is your fault!"

Lila gritted her teeth, stepped around Alexander, and continued walking forward.

But then her arm was suddenly grabbed.
