Chapter 206
Hearing this, Lila immediately became alert.
She quickly scrolled through the few chat messages she had with Ethan.
Ethan's confession - if Alexander saw it, he would be angry.
And the lies she made up - if Alexander saw them, there was a 99.999% chance he would think they were about him.
How could she explain this?
Lila was extremely frustrated.
She didn't know why she had just promised to show Alexander the chat history. She had basically dug a hole for herself.
Alexander never had much patience with her, and soon urged, "Didn't you hear what I said?"
"I heard you, boss, but I haven't finished chatting yet. How about you look at it later?"
"Look at it now. Bring it here."
Lila knew that as a nobody, she had no way to go against Mr. Sinclair's will, so she quickly gave in.
She picked up her phone and walked toward him.
When she stopped in front of Alexander's desk, she made sure to tell him first, "The messages I sent were all to make Ethan explain things clearly to his mom. They're not real. Boss, please don't misunderstand."
After saying this, Lila handed over her phone.
As Alexander reached out to take it, his scrutinizing gaze fixed on her, as if he was about to settle accounts with her the next second.
Taking the phone, Alexander looked down and slowly scrolled through the chat.
At first his expression was completely calm, but when he saw Ethan's message asking Lila to be his girlfriend, his blue eyes immediately narrowed. He stared at Lila and sneered coldly, "Lila, what exactly is it about you that makes so many men like you?"
"I don't have that kind of ability."
After answering somewhat fearfully, Lila muttered quietly, "Don't you already know what I'm like? Ethan is probably at the age to get married and wants to find someone around his age to marry. He just happened to see that I fit the bill, so he said those things. Boss, please don't take it seriously."
"Is that so?"
She nodded obediently, "Yes."
A disdainful snort escaped from his nose, and he soon pressed on with another question, "So what's this about you having liked someone for many years?"
Lila answered without thinking, "That was a lie to fool Ethan. I wanted him to quickly explain our relationship to his mom."
Alexander made no comment.
However, he soon threw out a third question, "The guy you like found out about you pretending to be Ethan's girlfriend? He was super angry - are you talking about me?"
As Alexander spoke, his tone was steady. Even the intensifier "super" was delivered by him in a calm, flat manner.
Lila knew he would think it was about him.
Coming back to her senses, she shook her head in denial, "It's not you. That was a lie."
"You just love lying, don't you?"
She bit her lip, her clear almond-shaped eyes showing a hint of hurt, "Wasn't I just following your orders? I lied to draw clear boundaries with Ethan and avoid going shopping with his mom. How are you blaming me for it now?"
Some word must have pleased Alexander, as the sharpness on his face softened a bit.
Lila breathed a sigh of relief.
But that relief quickly turned to tension again.
Because she saw his long fingers tap a few times on her phone screen, and finally the sound of a voice call being dialed broke the quiet air.
Lila's eyes widened immediately, "What are you doing?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, she walked around the desk to his side to grab her phone back.
Alexander easily dodged her.
Not only that, he also grabbed her outstretched wrist. His indifferent eyes landed on her face, and when he spoke, his voice carried a hint of temptation, "Mrs. Sinclair, I'm just helping you solve the problem. No need to get worked up. Is there a problem?"
