Chapter 205
"Not good."
"Then what do you want?"
When Alexander spoke, his tone left no room for argument, "Call him right now, put it on speaker, and get everything straight in one go. If he can't immediately give you a proper explanation to tell his mother, I'll respond for you."
As soon as Lila heard this, she understood that Alexander was going to force his way into handling it.
She immediately felt unhappy about it.
But she didn't dare confront him to his face, so she could only meekly complain in a low voice, "Can't you give me any personal space? Everything is up to you. I have zero rights around you. How am I supposed to like you this way?"
Hearing this, Alexander raised an eyebrow.
He watched her muttering quietly with an unhappy expression, and his heart inexplicably softened.
After a few seconds, Alexander spoke, "Fine, then you sit here and wait for Ethan's reply. When you're done chatting, let me review it, then you can go back to your driver's lounge."
Lila was surprised and somewhat honored by Alexander's compromise.
She looked at him with suspicion written all over her face, "You're really going to let me handle it myself?"
Alexander made a sound of agreement and said in a low voice, "Giving you the personal space you want."
"Thank you, boss." Lila smiled sweetly.
Alexander smirked lightly.
He got up from the sofa and walked toward his desk with long strides.
Lila watched Alexander's tall, straight figure and suddenly thought his walking posture was very handsome, highly watchable, like a male model.
She found it strange—how come she'd never noticed before how good he looked when he walked?
It must be because he was being reasonable for once today, so she was unconsciously viewing him through rose-colored glasses.
That's what Lila thought.
Her phone vibrated. She snapped back to attention and looked down at the message.
Ethan, [Haven't told her yet, but Lila, my mom really likes you. Every other day she wants me to take you out to dinner again. Every day at home she goes on about what it'll be like after you marry into the family. I don't even know how to tell her the truth anymore.]
After reading this message, Lila felt relieved.
Good thing she didn't call him on speaker!
Otherwise, if Alexander heard Ethan say this, wouldn't he be fuming mad?
If he got that angry, she'd be the one who'd end up suffering.
She breathed a sigh of relief and quickly typed a message.
[Ethan, I really think you should just tell the truth. I can't go shopping with your mom this weekend, and you can't keep lying like this. The lie will be exposed sooner or later. You might as well come clean and have a good talk with them, get them to stop pressuring you.]
Ethan, [You're right that lying isn't a solution. Lila, do you have a boyfriend?]
Lila felt somewhat helpless at Ethan's reply.
Why was this getting more and more off track?
Seeming not to have received a response.
Ethan sent another message, [I actually really like you. Back in school I thought you were very pretty, and most importantly you're very kind. Being around you makes people feel comfortable. Lila, if you don't have a boyfriend, could you give me a chance?]
Lila realized things were taking a dangerous turn.
She just wanted to solve the problem—why was she suddenly being confessed to?
Now she was starting to wonder if she could even show this chat history to Alexander.
Lila felt like crying.
Her face scrunched up as she organized her thoughts and replied, [I have someone I like. I've liked him for many years. Ethan, you really need to come clean with your mom. This is partly my fault too—I shouldn't have agreed to help you deceive your family in the first place. I'm sorry, but you still need to tell your mom the truth.]
After sending this message, afraid she wouldn't convince Ethan, Lila sent another one with more weight.
[To be honest, the guy I like found out about me pretending to be your girlfriend, and he's super angry. I'm really troubled right now.]
She didn't want to pressure Ethan, but Alexander was pressuring her.
Working and living under him, she really had no choice but to comply.
Lila had just sighed inwardly when she heard Alexander speak, "Bring me your phone. Let me see how your communication is going."
