Chapter 198
Lila had a terrible night's sleep.
First, the moment she closed her eyes, her mind was flooded with images of kissing Alexander. Then, when she finally managed to doze off, her dreams were filled with Alexander in all his different forms—him smiling, him mocking her, him sitting in his office, seriously handling work, him looking at her with that arrogant gaze.
In her dreams, all sorts of scenes jumbled together without any logic, tormenting her the entire night.
The next day, Lila got up after her alarm went off.
After washing her face, she left her bedroom, ready to go downstairs and make breakfast.
Lila had assumed that at this hour, Alexander would still be sleeping as usual.
But as soon as she reached the top of the stairs, she saw Alexander already sitting on the downstairs sofa, fully dressed!
He sat upright on the sofa, bringing a cigarette between his fingers to his lips. After blowing out a smoke ring, his slender fingers tapped off the ash. He seemed to be thinking about something, with a faint hint of a smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
Standing at the top of the stairs, Lila suddenly didn't know whether she should go downstairs to make breakfast or not.
Downstairs, as Alexander leaned forward to stub out his finished cigarette in the ashtray, he glanced upstairs. Across a distance of more than ten meters, his eyes met Lila's uncertain gaze, and he sneered coldly, "Is Mrs. Sinclair planning to stand there until dark before coming down?"
Lila's thoughts immediately scattered.
Alexander's words always carried a hint of sarcasm.
She lifted her foot and went downstairs.
However, after coming downstairs, Lila didn't interact with Alexander in the living room.
She walked straight to the kitchen to make breakfast.
Twenty minutes later, breakfast was ready.
When Lila brought the two plates to the dining room, she was about to call Alexander over to eat, but when she looked up, she saw he had already walked over.
She silently walked to her seat and sat down, eating with her head down.
Alexander soon took his seat as well. After picking up his utensils in an unhurried manner, he glanced at the woman sitting across from him, "Making meals before and after work every day. Do you find it tiring?"
Lila was somewhat surprised.
Was this his way of showing concern?
She looked up at him and confirmed, "Are you talking to me?"
"Is there a second person here?"
"It's not tiring. This is what I should do. After all, right now I can neither get divorced nor do I want to have a child for you, so all I can do is cook."
Alexander frowned.
It wasn't hard to guess. She was remembering when he first assigned her the cooking task, and she wasn't willing, so he made her choose between cooking, divorce, or having a child.
Alexander curved his lips in a light sneer, "You really hold a grudge."
"No, I'm just stating facts."
"I've already told Charlie to find a housekeeper from a domestic service company to come cook and clean."
Lila had just finished answering him and lowered her head to eat.
Now hearing about hiring a housekeeper, she couldn't help but look up, her face full of confusion, "Why?"
When things are abnormal, there must be something wrong.
Lila felt uneasy inside and stared at Alexander, asking, "You're not going to make me replace cooking with having a child, are you?"
Alexander immediately denied it, "No, we've talked about the child issue before. I won't change my mind."
"That's good then." She felt relieved.
Alexander watched her look of relief after the false alarm, and spoke again in a deep voice, "Hiring a housekeeper is just to keep you from being too tired, to reduce your workload. From now on, you only need to be my driver and take me to and from work."
Lila felt confused.
Would he really be this considerate?
Was Alexander plotting something bad?
She couldn't figure it out by thinking, so Lila just asked directly, "Boss, why are you suddenly starting to be considerate of me?"
