Chapter 167
Alexander seemed caught off guard by Lila's sudden question, a hint of disbelief flickering in his eyes.
At the same time, his mind uncontrollably pondered the answer to her question, and his slender fingers even gave her fair, delicate wrist a squeeze.
Soft?
It was pretty soft.
But how could he possibly tell her that?
A mischievous smile tugged at Alexander's lips as he suddenly tightened his grip on her hand.
Lila winced in pain and quickly pulled her hand back, her face scrunching up as she looked at him. "Why'd you pinch me?"
As she frowned and rubbed her hand, she heard Alexander's cold assessment. "Not soft at all. Touching it for even one more second would hurt my hand."
Lila gritted her teeth and glared at him hard.
Alexander looked quite pleased seeing her annoyed.
He quickly issued his command, "Pick your stuff. Don't waste my time, okay?"
She glanced at the counter, then at him. "So am I just picking randomly, or actually choosing carefully?"
"I worked hard for this money. You dare not spend it seriously?"
"I wouldn't dare." Lila responded half-heartedly.
However, even though Alexander wore an expression like he wanted to kill her, what he was really saying was: buy what you like.
Being able to buy jewelry she liked did make Lila a bit happy.
She casually lowered her head to look at the gold jewelry in the counter.
She had to admit, gold jewelry nowadays was actually quite beautiful. Unlike when she was young and thought gold was tacky, now looking at these gleaming pieces, it was like seeing stacks of dollars dancing before her eyes. She really liked them.
"Miss Grace, are you and Mr. Sinclair here to buy gold jewelry?" A not-entirely-unfamiliar voice reached her ears.
Lila looked up and saw Julie, surprise evident in her eyes.
Julie was also looking at her, though Julie's eyes held more resentment.
Just now she had seen Mr. Sinclair and Lila laughing together.
She had also seen Mr. Sinclair take Lila's hand.
She had known Mr. Sinclair for so many years, and he had never held her hand.
When she first met Mr. Sinclair through Celeste back then, she had noticed his particularly attractive hands, but since Mr. Sinclair was Celeste's boyfriend, she hadn't dared confess her feelings.
Now that Celeste had been gone for two years, she had finally seen Mr. Sinclair again and thought she might have a chance to get closer to him, only to find out he had already married another woman.
She had been disappointed then.
But at their last meeting, she had picked up from Mr. Sinclair's words that his marriage to Lila wouldn't last long, and hope had instantly rekindled.
Yet today, the two of them were holding hands?
Julie's thoughts were interrupted by Alexander's voice, "What are you doing here?"
She snapped back to reality, looking at him gratefully. "Thanks to Mr. Sinclair lending me a hundred thousand dollars last time, which solved my emergency, I quit The Velvet Lounge and I'm working here now. Is Mr. Sinclair here today to buy gold jewelry for Miss Grace?"
"Yeah."
Julie froze.
When Mr. Sinclair was with Celeste before, he had never taken her to browse gold shops or buy jewelry. Most of the gifts Celeste received were arranged by Mr. Sinclair's assistant.
So why could this wife, whose marriage Mr. Sinclair said wouldn't last long, get him to personally accompany her to choose gold jewelry?
Julie looked at Lila with a timid expression. "What kind of gold jewelry does Miss Grace like? Would you prefer something heavier or lighter?"
It was the first time Lila had heard a saleswoman ask like this.
Shouldn't she be asking what style she liked?
