Chapter 158
"There's enough for two more bowls. I'll make sure my granddaughter gets her fill."
"Okay!"
The old lady looked at her with a smile, then turned to Alexander, "Alex, we haven't made you anything too fancy since you came to our home. How's the pasta?"
Alexander replied in a gentlemanly and polite manner, "It's delicious. This is the best pasta I've had in all these years."
"Really?"
"Really."
The old lady beamed with joy, "That's wonderful! Looks like you and our Lila have similar tastes in food. That way, I won't have to worry about you two living together in the future."
Hearing her grandmother's words, Lila felt uneasy.
Actually, she had never told her grandmother that her marriage to Alexander was a transaction, and their marriage had a time limit. After one year, they would divorce and return to their separate lives.
But the way Grandma was talking to Alexander clearly showed she assumed the two of them would spend the rest of their lives together.
She glanced at Alexander.
He looked at Grandma with a gentle expression, "Grandma doesn't need to worry at all. Lila and I are very much on the same page when it comes to food."
Lila secretly smiled to herself. Of course they were on the same page.
She was in charge of cooking, and he was in charge of eating.
Lila pulled herself back and continued eating.
After lunch, when the old lady was about to clear the dishes and wash them, Lila stopped her, "Grandma, you already cooked. You shouldn't have to do the dishes too."
"If I don't do them, are you going to? I can't control how you young people live outside, who washes dishes or cooks, but here at Grandma's house, I can't bear to let my precious granddaughter wash dishes."
"It's not me washing them, actually it's—"
Lila said this and boldly pointed at Alexander, "He's going to wash them, Grandma. You don't know this, but on the way here he said he wanted to wash the dishes after we ate. I said okay, I'd definitely let him have that opportunity."
Hearing this, Alexander looked at Lila with surprise, his gaze full of questions and deeper meaning, incredibly complex.
When Grandma wasn't looking, Lila gave Alexander a pitiful, pleading look. What she didn't know was that in Alexander's eyes, that look was extremely cute.
She soon heard Grandma ask, "Alex, did you really say that?"
Alexander chuckled softly.
Lila's heart immediately tensed up, afraid he wouldn't give her face and would expose her on the spot.
That would be a disaster!
Fortunately, Alexander spoke with a smile on his lips, "Yes, Grandma. We're the younger generation, so we should help our elders with household chores. I'll wash the dishes today."
"Alright, since you're so thoughtful, I won't be polite with you."
"We're all family, Grandma doesn't need to be polite with me."
With that, he stood up, stacked the three bowls together, picked up the chopsticks, and walked toward the kitchen.
The old lady watched his actions with a satisfied smile on her face, then looked at Lila, "Lila, Alex seems reliable. Does he do the housework at your place too?"
Lila had just breathed a sigh of relief when Grandma followed up with another question. She answered vaguely, "Sometimes I do it, sometimes he does. I don't split it up that clearly with him, and besides, he's busy with work."
"You're right to think that way. After all, the home belongs to both of you, and housework should be shared. If you did it all by yourself, Grandma would feel bad, but it's not right for Alex to do it all alone either, since he still has to go to work. Speaking of work, what does he do? You got married so suddenly, Grandma really doesn't know anything."
"He's a manager at a small company."
Hearing this, the old lady said in surprise, "He's in management?"
"Yeah."
"Then his monthly salary must be pretty good, right? Is it over ten thousand?"
