Chapter 143
Alexander gave a light snort, the corners of his mouth curving up, "You're my legal wife. Fine, I can't touch you, but I can't even look?"
Lila stared at him pleadingly and asked back, "You did this on purpose, didn't you?"
"On purpose what?"
"On purpose carrying me to your room, violating me with your eyes."
Alexander chuckled softly, repeating her word choice with amusement, "Violating? You think you're some kind of goddess?"
Lila felt he was focusing on the wrong thing.
She pressed her lips together and asked the question he'd interrupted earlier, "Grandma's coming. You could've just woken me up directly. Why did you have to carry me to your room?"
"I told her you were still sleeping."
"You could've also said you woke me up after hanging up the phone?"
Alexander nodded as if just realizing this, "True, why didn't I think of that just now?"
Lila wasn't sure if he was being serious or not.
Could it be guilt? Was he so scared by Grandma that he lost his basic thinking ability?
She was about to get out of bed, then froze, looking at Alexander helplessly, "You carried me here, but my clothes are still in my bedroom, and so are my shoes. I can't change or put on shoes now. What do I do? When Grandma gets here, I can't just not see her, right?"
Alexander looked at her without speaking.
He leaned closer, pulled apart her arms that were hugging her legs, pressed her shoulders to lay her back down on the bed, pulled the covers over her, his eyes fixed on her obedient face, "You just pretend to be asleep. Everything else, leave to me."
These words were strangely reassuring.
But Lila still asked, "Won't that be too disrespectful to an elder?"
He snorted, "Or would you rather tell Grandma we've been sleeping in separate rooms this whole time?"
Lila couldn't think of any better solution either.
But what kind of bad idea was this?
She pressed her lips together and finally chose to comply, "Then I'll just stay lying down."
He was satisfied, raising his hand to pat her face, "Mm, be good and listen."
Lila felt Alexander was showing signs of a personality change. He was actually patting her face, looking at her with affection, telling her to be good and listen.
Where was his sharp tongue? His arrogance?
How come after last night, they were all gone?
The sound of a doorbell came from downstairs. Lila immediately became alert, "Grandma's here!"
"You sleep. I'll go see Grandma."
"Okay."
He threw off the covers, got out of bed, and strode out of the bedroom on his long legs.
Lila lay in bed, glancing at the layout around her, feeling somewhat conflicted.
They'd only been married a few days. How did she end up lying in Alexander's bed?
Although they hadn't done anything, it just felt absurd. And smelling his scent on the bedding, she surprisingly didn't feel any disgust or resistance.
Downstairs.
Alexander opened the door.
When Gaia saw him, there was no expression on her face. Her gaze moved past him toward the living room.
Alexander stepped aside to let her through.
As she entered, he asked, "Why are you here so early in the morning, Grandma?"
"I was passing by and thought I'd come see my granddaughter-in-law. Where's Lila?"
"Didn't I tell you on the phone?"
Gaia glared at him, "What kind of tone is that?"
Alexander obediently stated, "She's still sleeping."
"Oh?" Gaia looked at him with suspicious eyes, "Sleeping where?"
He said, "In the bedroom."
"The master bedroom?"
"Yes."
Gaia smiled, "Will you take me to see?"
Alexander stared at her, "What do you mean by that?"
Gaia chuckled lightly, showing no displeasure at being questioned. Instead, she said quite openly, "I want to see what my granddaughter-in-law looks like when she's sleeping. Or would you prefer to hear the meaning you're guessing at. I want to see if you're actually sleeping in the same room as my granddaughter-in-law?"
Alexander felt a wave of helplessness.
Just as he expected, Gaia wouldn't let this go until she was certain.
