Chapter 136
When Ethan's mom was talking to Ethan, Lila didn't look down, but she kept her eyes lowered.
Even so, she still caught a glimpse of Alexander's gaze on her face. His look was clearly indifferent, yet it gave her the feeling that she was about to be executed.
In her panic, Lila heard Ethan's dad say goodbye to Alexander, "Mr. Sinclair, we'll be going now."
"Please, Mr. Caldwell." Alexander maintained his normal social tone.
After Ethan's dad left, Ethan looked at her and said, "Let's go Lila, I'll take you home."
"Actually, I can just take the subway home by myself."
"It's fine. You helped me out so much today. It would be really inconsiderate of me to let you go home alone. Let me drive you."
Just as Lila was about to respond to Ethan, she saw Alexander open the passenger door for Julie. Julie happily bent down to get in the car, and after sitting down, she glanced at Alexander with a look full of love.
Alexander gave her a gentle smile before closing the door, then walked around to the driver's seat and drove away.
The whole time, he didn't give Lila a single glance.
After they left, Ethan asked with some confusion, "Lila, why didn't you say hello to your boss when you saw him?"
"He doesn't like me talking to him in private."
"Your boss is pretty cold then. But I noticed he was quite attentive to his girlfriend just now."
Lila didn't comment, "Weren't you going to take me home? Shall we go?"
"Yeah, get in." With that, Ethan opened the car door.
Lila gave Ethan the address of a residential complex near Island Mansion.
On the way, she couldn't help thinking about what Alexander and Julie were talking about at dinner tonight. Celeste?
Twenty minutes later, Ethan's car stopped at the entrance of the complex Lila had mentioned.
As she unbuckled her seatbelt, Ethan said, "Let me walk you in?"
Lila froze for a moment and quickly refused, "No need, it's getting late. You should head home."
"It's fine, I'm a guy, what do I have to be afraid of?"
"Really, no need to walk me in."
With that, she got out of the car. Before closing the door, she looked at Ethan and said, "I'll watch you leave, and I'll go home after you're gone."
"I wanted to watch you go in."
"Why are you so fussy? It's so cold outside, I want to get into the complex and go home early. Just go."
With that, she closed the car door.
Sensing that she really didn't want him to walk her home, Ethan didn't insist. After the door closed, he rolled down the window, "Lila, thanks for today. I'm leaving now, okay?"
Lila smiled and waved at him.
She watched Ethan drive away, then dropped her smile, turned, and walked toward Island Mansion.
Before today, Lila had always thought Alexander was a cold person, so cold that he wouldn't be gentle with anyone, until she saw his warm gaze when having dinner with Julie, and saw him thoughtfully opening the car door for her.
Julie was just Celeste's friend, yet she could enjoy such special treatment from Alexander.
But she was Alexander's wife, and all she got was sarcasm and hostility.
It was really ridiculous.
Lila returned to Island Mansion in a daze.
She thought she would definitely get back before Alexander, but as soon as she entered, she found Alexander's car already parked in the courtyard.
He took Julie home that quickly?
Oh right, they were going the same way anyway.
Lila entered the house feeling down. After changing her shoes in the entryway and heading toward the living room, she saw Alexander standing on the second-floor corridor, holding a glass of red wine and looking down at her.
