Chapter 113
When Lila saw the 2 and 0, her first thought was that Alexander had transferred the 200,000 dollars he promised her last night.
But after counting the zeros before the decimal point several times, she realized he hadn't given her 200,000—he'd given her 2 million!
2 million?
Lila immediately looked up at Alexander through the glass window.
Was he crazy, giving her this much money?
Sure, suddenly having this much money was a good thing, but for some reason, looking at the balance on her bank card, Lila didn't feel happy at all.
Although Alexander was her husband, he didn't like her, so she didn't feel comfortable spending his money. Money from him wouldn't give her any sense of achievement.
The brief surprise and pleasure came only from the fact that in her 22 years, she'd never seen this much money before.
But could she really spend this money freely?
Or would she have to report every expense to him?
Lila leaned back in her swivel chair, feeling completely lost.
Alexander must have had a lot of work today—at 5:30 PM he was still sitting firmly in his office chair.
Lila was getting a bit hungry.
At six o'clock, she caught a glimpse of him standing up.
Finally!
Soon, Alexander came to the lounge door and told her it was time to leave work.
Lila cheerfully grabbed her bag and walked out of the lounge. She was thinking about what to make for dinner when she heard him say, "I have a business dinner tonight. You're coming with me."
A business dinner?
Weren't men's business dinners supposed to be a bunch of guys sitting around drinking or bragging?
Of course, at higher-end gatherings, they might be discussing business deals.
Just thinking about it made Lila feel she really disliked that kind of setting, so she asked Alexander, "Boss, I'm just a driver. I can't talk business, and I can't hold my liquor. It's not appropriate for me to go with you, right? Why don't you get someone from PR to go with you? They could even help you dodge drinks. How about that?"
He glanced at her sideways. "Who would dare try to make me drink at a business dinner?"
She froze, then heard Alexander add, "You really underestimate your husband."
With that, Alexander took the lead and walked toward the office door.
Lila breathed a sigh of relief and followed.
In the elevator, she quietly observed him and gently expressed her feelings. "Boss, I don't want to go to a business dinner."
Alexander looked down at her. "So?"
Lila asked tentatively, "Can I go home first?"
Alexander's lips curved in mockery. "Really think you're Mrs. Sinclair now? Living the good life, not having to do anything?"
"Even if I'm not Mrs. Sinclair, I at least have my own preferences, right? Why can't I refuse to do things I don't like?"
"Don't you like money? You asked for 200,000 and I gave you 2 million. Since you've already got the money, be smart about it. Maybe if I'm happy, I'll give you even more."
Lila glared at him angrily, then stood to the side looking dejected.
A few seconds later, she still asked unhappily, "Why do you have to make me go to this business dinner? Can't I just wait for you at home? I can't drink... and I don't know any of the people you need to schmooze with."
"Wait for me at home? Wait for me for what? Didn't you say you'd rather crack my head open than sleep with me? If that's the case, don't say such nice-sounding things."
With that said, he suddenly raised his hand and draped an arm over Lila's shoulder.
Lila was startled and tried to dodge away.
But Alexander suddenly tightened his grip, pulling her into his arms, and looked down at her. "Besides, if you go home, who's going to take care of me when I've been drinking?"
