Chapter 99 Leave the Child, Let's Get Married
In fact, when Henry yanked Diana outta that fancy shindig, he already had a hunch that the bun in her oven might be his. That night, the blood on the sheets was no joke.
Thinking it and hearing it were two different beasts, though.
Henry was all over the place, feelings-wise. The idea of a mini-Henry running around kinda got him hyped.
For once, Mr. Cool-as-a-Cucumber was totally flustered!
Diana knew this was a bombshell for Henry and kept going, "It must've been that time at the spa, by accident. I know you don't want another kid. It's still early, so an abortion would be the way to go."
Henry squinted, "What are you getting at?"
"I can't just pop out the kid and hand it over to you like it’s nothing. I can't do that as a mom. But I also don't want the kid growing up without a dad."
Diana kept her real thoughts to herself.
The Windsor family used to be big shots in NYC.
She'd seen how rich folks would deal with moms and kids to keep women from using their kids as leverage.
Not knowing what Henry was thinking, Diana played it safe.
"You wanna abort the kid?" Henry's face darkened.
"You said you didn't want another kid," Diana shot back.
Gavin glanced at Henry, "Henry, did you say that?"
Henry nodded.
Gavin adjusted his glasses and muttered, "Bastard!"
In the middle of all this tension, Lucas almost lost it and laughed.
Henry put down his cup and walked up to Diana, "Do you really not want this kid?"
His presence was intense, and his eyes were like lasers.
Diana looked down, avoiding his gaze. She fiddled with her cup and whispered, "You know I'm prepping for my Ph.D. exams. A kid would mess up all my plans. I might have to kiss my future goodbye."
"I'm asking if you really don't want it," Henry pressed.
Being so close, his familiar sandalwood scent made Diana's mind go blank for a sec.
It was like Henry could read her mind.
"Diana, you're a terrible liar."
Even when she tried to seduce him before, she was an open book.
Diana met Henry's eyes and stopped dodging, "Do you want this kid?"
"The choice is yours."
Diana gave a faint smile, "Even if I have the kid, so what? You don't want it. Are you gonna marry me?"
"Keep the kid, and we'll get hitched."
Henry's voice was low and rough, with a hint of allure.
Diana felt dizzy, unable to process it.
Just then, with hurried footsteps, the lounge door burst open. Juniper rushed in, looking worried. Seeing Diana safe, she sighed in relief, "You scared me. Are you hurt?"
"No," Diana shook her head stiffly.
"You silly girl, you didn't even mention you were pregnant. If I'd known, I wouldn't have brought you here." Juniper didn't ask about the dad but showed concern for her health, "Are you sure you're okay? Need to go to the hospital?"
"No need, I'm a doctor myself," Diana said with a faint smile.
"I'm just being a worrywart," Juniper laughed.
Pregnancy was a personal thing, so Juniper didn't pry.
After making sure Diana was okay, she glanced at Henry and Gavin, "You two are here too?"
Henry and Gavin thought, 'Did you not see us when you barged in? Are we invisible?'
"Mom, I need to tell you something," Henry said.
"Spill it," Juniper said, fixing her slightly messy dress.
"Brace yourself," Gavin warned.
"I've seen it all. What could possibly shock me?" Juniper chuckled.
Henry dropped the bomb:
"Diana's pregnant. The kid's mine. We're getting married."
Diana frowned. She hadn't agreed to marry him yet.
Juniper froze, her eyes darting between Henry and Diana, full of disbelief. After a moment, she clutched her chest and sat down, "Gavin, what do I do?"
"Mom, chill. You've been through worse," Gavin said bluntly.
"I'm not ready to be a mother-in-law. I'm kinda freaking out."
When they left the resort hotel, it was already past ten at night.
"Are you hungry? Want to grab a bite?" Henry asked as he drove.
"Not really," Diana shook her head.
She had imagined a million scenarios after telling Henry, but she never expected him to straight-up say he wanted to keep the kid and marry her.
She still felt like she was dreaming.
"Feeling nauseous?" Henry asked softly, "How long has this been going on?"
"It started in New York City."
"So, you knew you were pregnant when you asked me about the kid?"
Diana nodded.
"I really didn't plan on having another kid. You know Simon's personality. He seems lively but is very sensitive inside. I'm afraid it would mess him up," Henry confessed, "But,"
"It seems like it was meant to be, yougetting pregnant like this."
Diana chuckled, "Mr. Spencer believes in fate?"
"I believe in destiny."
"Otherwise, how would I have met you?"
Those words were heartwarming.
"Diana," Henry suddenly called her name softly, "What I said at the ranch wasn't just talk."
"When I said I wanted to marry you, I meant it."
"Even without this kid, I still want to marry you."
At that moment, Diana heard her own heartbeat, intense and chaotic.
Henry's fingers lightly tapped the steering wheel. The accumulated fatigue of many days seemed to vanish. He felt incredibly relaxed, even a bit excited.
Diana looked down at her phone. News of her pregnancy had already spread online. Taking advantage of the Apex Global Enterprises anniversary, it quickly went viral. The overwhelming majority of the comments accused her of being scheming.
Having been through so much, Diana remained indifferent as she read the reports. They didn't stir any emotions in her.
"Are you going back to Tranquil Heights Apartments tonight?" Henry suddenly asked.
"Where else would I go?"
"Since we're planning to get married and you're pregnant, you need someone to take care of you. It's not cool to keep troubling others. When do you plan to come home with me?"
