Chapter 88 Call Her Mom?
Caleb, although he left Velvet City, has always been keeping an eye on Diana. When he saw the news about the press conference, he used the opportunity to contact her under the pretense of study materials.
Caleb: [How have you been lately? Doing okay?]
Diana pursed her lips and replied: [I'm fine, thanks for asking.]
Caleb: [If you need any help, feel free to reach out.]
Diana: [You're under a lot of pressure with your PhD studies. Helping me search for study materials is already taking up your time; I don't want to trouble you further.]
She didn't like him, not wanting to give him the wrong impression. There was no such thing as a free lunch in this world. Knowing his feelings for her, Diana couldn't comfortably accept his favoritism; it wouldn't be fair to him.
Her words were tactful, but Caleb understood clearly. Holding his phone, his expression turned gloomy.
Henry, on the other hand, saw the last part of the conversation and felt quite pleased.
Even Simon couldn't help but ask, "Dad, why are you so happy?"
"The weather is nice today," He chuckled.
"The weather?" Simon was puzzled. The weather had been the same recently; what was different today?
Bethany, however, couldn't help but think, 'He looks so happy. It can't just be because of the weather!'
Diana was in a good mood today, and with Simon around, she decided to cook.
Bethany, being cheeky and familiar naturally, also tagged along for the meal.
In the kitchen, Diana was washing ingredients when Henry hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her neck and gently nuzzling it. His voice was low and husky. "Do you like the gift I gave you?"
"Yes." She nodded.
The incident with Trevor was still a nightmare for her. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, recalling the helplessness and despair of that time still made her heart race.
Trevor's kneeling and pleading, followed by his arrest and imprisonment, had finally brought the matter to a conclusion.
"Have you thought about how to thank me?" Henry smiled at her.
She turned around, their eyes meeting. With her hands wet, she could only loosely hug his neck, tilting her face up to give him a quick kiss on the lips. "Is that okay?"
"Diana, your gratitude feels a bit perfunctory." Henry said.
He smiled as he kissed her. One hand tightened around her waist while the other cradled the back of her head, deepening the kiss.
"Stop it. There are people outside," She pushed against his shoulder.
"Just go along with me." He said.
She was shocked by his bluntness. Simon was still outside, and he was asking her to go along with him.
She was so cooperative that her legs almost gave out. Just then, someone pushed the door open.
Bethany stood at the kitchen door, his mouth slightly agape in shock. It wasn't even dark yet, what were they doing in the kitchen?
He knew Henry too well; it must have been him who initiated it. How shameless.
Especially the look Henry gave Bethany, clearly saying, "Stop acting like you've never seen the world!"
"Mr. Rodriguez, do you need something?" Diana asked awkwardly.
She had already pushed Henry away, awkwardly tidying her clothes with a flushed face.
"I just wanted to see if you needed any help." Bethany forced a laugh. "I feel uncomfortable just sitting there waiting for dinner."
Henry sneered, "Did you forget that last time on Mr. Rodriguez's birthday, you cooked and ended up destroying your kitchen, which had to be remodeled?"
"That was an accident!" Bethany gritted his teeth. "Today, I'll show you my true colors!"
With that, he rolled up his sleeves, ready to get to work.
"Ms. Windsor, if you need any help, just let me know," Bethany said.
In the end, Diana handed Bethany a few cloves of garlic. "Thanks."
Bethany was furious. He was a wealthy heir, and she was asking him to peel garlic?
Forget it; he had to give her some face. So, the usually arrogant and brash Bethany squatted on a small plastic stool, quietly peeling garlic.
Diana made a lot of dishes today, filling the table.
Bethany wasn't at all polite, eating and praising, "Ms. Windsor, can I come over for meals more often?"
She smiled, but before she could respond, Henry spoke up, "'Come over more often'? Aren't you being a bit shameless?"
Bethany, peeling shrimp, replied, "You've known me since I was a kid; I've always been shameless."
Diana had never seen someone so unabashedly call themselves shameless.
When Bethany reached for the last piece of beef with his fork, Simon did the same.
In a standoff, Simon pouted, "Bethany, I'm a kid; you should let me have it."
"Why should I? Just because you're younger?" Bethany retorted.
More skilled with the fork, he grabbed the beef and didn't forget to give Simon a lesson in love.
He said seriously, "Simon, I'm teaching you that when you enter society, no one will let you have anything just because you're young. After all, not everyone in this world is your parents. You have to become strong!"
"I'll be waiting for you to get stronger."
Simon gritted his teeth. "When I get stronger, you'll be the first one I get back at."
Bethany coughed, "It's not good for kids to hold grudges."
Simon snorted, clearly upset.
It wasn't until Bethany promised to take him out to play the next day that Simon reluctantly said, "Then I'll forgive you this time, but you better not lie to me."
With them around, the place was no longer as quiet as before. Watching them bicker made the meal quite entertaining.
Bethany helped wash the dishes before leaving.
Henry personally saw him downstairs. They chatted for a bit before Henry returned to find Simon already bathed and lying on the master bed, playing with his phone.
"Dad, I want to sleep with Diana tonight," Simon said.
"Then where do I sleep?" Henry frowned.
"You can sleep with us, too." Simon laughed.
In the end, they were all laying on one bed.
Simon squeezed between them, grinning widely while Henry looked sullen.
In the middle of the night, Simon seemed to be having a restless dream.
Just as Henry was about to comfort him, Diana had already reached out to hold Simon, soothing him softly, "It's okay. Don't be afraid."
Simon snuggled closer to her.
"Don't be afraid; I'm here. No one will dare to bully our Simon." She gently patted his back. "Sleep well, be good."
Compared to her, Simon was very lucky. The Spencers loved him dearly, but it couldn't change that he didn't have a mother. In a big family, this kind of family structure was even more likely to be talked about.
Diana felt sorry for Simon, her voice growing even softer. Simon gradually calmed down in her arms.
"You've been quite tired lately too. Get some sleep; I'll take care of Simon." Diana glanced at Henry.
He had been helping her with Trevor and also had to manage Apex Global Enterprise's anniversary celebration, the fatigue evident in his brows.
Henry nodded. Just as he closed his eyes, he heard Simon mumble, "Mom,"
His eyes snapped open, and Diana looked equally shocked.
Only Simon slept soundly, reaching out to hug Diana's arm.
