Chapter 67
At this moment, Sophie saw right through Bella's little schemes.
She found it ridiculous.
What was the point of doing this?
Sophie took the phone back from Matthew. "Matthew, you can't let her go, and she's thinking about you. All you need to do is divorce me, and you two can get back together. I really don't care. I just think you'd be wasting Bella's true feelings."
She figured this counted as doing a good deed, letting Matthew know how much Bella cared about him.
"You're the one who wants to get back together with your first love." Matthew's gaze swept coldly over her smiling face.
Sophie's heart skipped a beat.
Then she laughed. "Yes, that's right. I do want to make up with him. So why don't we just let each other go? What do you say?"
"Don't even think about it." Matthew picked up his phone and stood up, looking down at her. "I want to keep bothering you." With that, he went straight back to his bedroom.
Sophie was so angry she threw her fist up behind him.
What was this guy thinking?
Was this really necessary between them?
"Matthew, if you insist on being like this, don't blame me for acting crazy!" Sophie stood at the bedroom door, shouting at him. "Don't regret it!"
The door flew open instantly.
Matthew's face looked terrifyingly dark.
Sophie swallowed, but kept her neck stiff. "You'd better part with me on good terms."
"How are you going to act crazy?" Matthew asked.
Sophie cleared her throat. "However I want."
Matthew's lips moved. "Try it."
Sophie pressed her lips together, then raised the corners of her mouth in a fake smile. "Just wait."
After throwing down that threat, Sophie went back to her own bedroom and slammed the door with a thunderous bang.
Once inside, Sophie called Emily and complained about everything Matthew had done.
After venting, she punched the bed hard, finally letting out some of her anger.
Emily was actually a bit scared and very worried. "What if Alex hadn't shown up in time? Just thinking about it scares me."
"I was terrified too." Sophie was scared.
"Thank goodness. Surviving a disaster brings good fortune."
Sophie was on the verge of tears. "Do you think I have any good fortune left?"
"If he won't divorce, then don't divorce. Let them make a fuss. You do your thing and ignore them. It wasn't a marriage based on feelings to begin with, so the outcome won't be much different."
Emily had also become more relaxed about it.
Sophie lay on the bed. "I know I shouldn't care, but Bella is so annoying, I'm speechless."
"Since everyone's just playing games, she only dares to post things for you to see, so you should post things for everyone to see. Fight fire with fire. Remember, you're the legitimate one. You can post whatever you want. She can only sneak around."
Emily snorted. "Didn't you buy rings? First post the rings for her to see. Find a chance to post a photo of Matthew lying in bed. Or take a picture when he's showering. You don't have feelings anyway, so with Matthew's face and body, post it for everyone to see."
Sophie burst out laughing.
Thank goodness she had a good friend who could comfort her and cheer her up. The gloom in her heart instantly disappeared.
"Alex helped you. What do you think about that? He definitely has feelings for you. I'm not trying to speak for him, but the only reason you two couldn't be together was because of his mom. Now he's successful and has enough confidence and ability to give you a future."
Sophie lay flat on the bed, thinking about the scene of Alex rushing in to save her.
At that moment, she was truly moved.
Think about it. When someone you once had feelings for appears during your moment of crisis and brings you out of danger, how could you remain completely unmoved and cold-hearted?
"Sophie, do you really have no lingering feelings for Alex at all?" Emily's tone was calm.
Sophie sighed. "I don't know. Before, I really didn't want to have anything to do with him. But this time, I can't ignore him anymore."
"Then respect your inner feelings and let things happen naturally." Emily said, "It's not really right to say this, since you and Matthew have a marriage binding you. But Matthew doesn't have feelings for you, and you don't love him either. There's no point in dragging this out."
Sophie naturally knew Matthew didn't love her.
As for her feelings toward Matthew...
She didn't have any either.
Even if they divorced, she wouldn't feel any attachment.
"He won't divorce. But even if we did divorce, I'm not sure I'd get together with Alex."
"Then just let things happen naturally. Anyway, Matthew isn't faithful to the marriage, so you don't need to trap yourself with it either." Emily was afraid she'd miss someone she loved because of this marriage.
Sophie agreed. "I know."
They chatted about other things, and when Sophie got tired and wanted to sleep, they ended the call.
She was really tired and fell asleep as soon as she closed her eyes.
When she woke up, it was already dark.
She grabbed her phone to check the time. It was already eight o'clock.
She first opened Facebook and clicked in.
Bella had posted a new update two hours ago.
Bella: [He said he still loves me.]
The picture showed a white rose.
Sophie let out a cold laugh.
She really couldn't help wanting to fire back.
She got up and found the couple rings she'd bought earlier from her bag. They only cost about a hundred dollars but were quite nice-looking.
She placed them on the bedsheet, found a good angle, focused, and took a photo.
She edited some text: [The best destination for love is probably marriage.]
Seeing these words, she couldn't help but laugh.
Anyone could show off, right?
Sophie blocked all her colleagues before posting.
The marriage was a fact. She didn't feel guilty at all.
Soon, there were many likes.
Emily was the first to like it, then Henry, followed by Joshua.
Sophie looked at all the likes and blessings and smiled.
Some people were even blessing her with a happy marriage in the comments.
Sophie also commented: [We'll be happy forever.]
She knew Bella could see this.
At that moment, Henry was sitting with Matthew having tea, asking with a smile, "When did your relationship warm up? You even bought rings."
"What rings?" Matthew was confused.
Henry reminded him to check his phone. "Sophie's Facebook post."
Matthew clicked into Sophie's Facebook and saw her post.
He frowned.
She'd just fought with him in the afternoon, wanting a divorce.
Now she was posting this. What had gotten into her?
"You didn't buy them?" Henry asked.
Matthew thought about what Sophie had told him about Bella's posts, and he guessed this might be posted for Bella to see.
"No."
Henry was stunned, then laughed.
He picked up his tea. "Looks like she really loves you—she even bought the rings herself."
Matthew snorted.
This wasn't love. She was using the marriage to annoy Bella.
Matthew thought about how she'd fought with him today, picked up his phone again, and liked her Facebook post.
