Chapter 115
"Harold," Henry said. "That distant nephew of yours, Sophie's ex."
Sophie walked into the crowd with the little girl, and Matthew stood up.
He wasn't interested at all. "She can be with whoever she wants."
"I just don't get it. Did you and Bella actually date or not? If it was fake, why did you care so much about her before? If it was real, how come you don't have any feelings for her now?"
Matthew quickened his pace. "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
Matthew had already hung up.
He walked through the crowd but couldn't see Sophie anywhere.
He suddenly felt anxious.
He called Sophie's phone while looking for her. The call went through, but no one answered.
His back went cold. Matthew panicked.
Suddenly, that familiar figure appeared before his eyes again. He quickly caught up and grabbed Sophie's hand.
Sophie jumped and turned around. "You scared me to death."
"Where did you go?" Matthew's breathing was uneven.
"A little kid got lost just now, so I helped her find her parents." Sophie pointed ahead. "Over there."
Matthew looked over and indeed saw the little girl being held by a man. The couple looked in their direction, nodding repeatedly in thanks.
Sophie noticed his nervousness. "Afraid I got lost or got scammed?"
"Both."
His undisguised expression made Sophie a bit uncomfortable.
Matthew held Sophie's hand tightly. "Tomorrow, we're going back home."
"Okay."
As soon as they got off the plane, Joshua was waiting for them at the airport exit.
They came out one after the other, and Joshua took the suitcase and put it in the car.
Sophie refused to get in the car.
"I'll take a taxi back."
"I'll take you." Matthew didn't force her to go with him.
"No need, I'll take a taxi myself." Sophie emphasized again.
Matthew held her hand and wouldn't let go.
Sophie frowned. "We agreed that once we got back, we'd go through the divorce procedures."
"Who told you that?" Matthew asked back.
Sophie stared at him. "You're going back on your word again?"
"I never agreed to it." Matthew said, "This matter is not up for discussion."
"You..." Sophie thought it would go smoothly, but didn't expect him to be so shameless.
Joshua listened from the side, not knowing whether their trip had changed anything.
It seemed Matthew had changed somewhat.
Matthew asked, "Are you getting in the car, or taking a taxi?"
"I'm not going with you anyway."
"Then I'll go with you."
Sophie opened her mouth but couldn't say a word.
In the end, Sophie still got in Matthew's car.
The only thing he compromised on was going to her place.
Sophie didn't want him following her at all.
In the car, neither of them spoke.
Matthew kept holding Sophie's hand without letting go, afraid that if he loosened his grip, she would fly away.
When they arrived at Sophie's apartment complex, Matthew had Joshua take the suitcase back to Yunjing, while he followed Sophie into the elevator.
Sophie tried to shake off his hand several times but couldn't.
There were other people in the elevator, so she didn't make a scene.
She just glared at him fiercely. He remained expressionless, acting as if nothing was happening, and even squeezed her hand, as if flirting.
Sophie pinched his palm hard.
"Ow." The sound Matthew made caused everyone in the elevator to turn and look at them.
Sophie felt embarrassed, gritting her teeth and warning him not to put on an act.
Matthew still had that calm look.
Finally, the elevator door opened.
As soon as Sophie got out, she yanked her hand away. This time Matthew let go.
"Tomorrow's a workday. Let's go get the divorce certificate." Sophie opened the door.
As soon as she opened it, Matthew rushed in faster than if he were going home.
Sophie knew she couldn't shake him off right now, so she just let him be.
Matthew took off his clothes while walking toward the bathroom. "We'll talk about tomorrow's matters tomorrow."
Sophie watched him casually toss his clothes on the sofa. She was speechless.
By the time she wanted to follow him, he was already in the bathroom.
Suddenly, the door opened again.
He stuck out his upper body and asked her, "Want to join me?"
"You're shameless!"
"Bring me some clothes in a bit." Matthew closed the door again.
Sophie angrily threw his clothes on the floor, resisting the urge to stomp on them.
She wasn't going to bring him anything.
Sophie went straight into the bedroom and closed the door.
After a while, Matthew knocked on the door.
Sophie ignored him.
"Are you planning to let me stay out here naked?" Matthew's shameless voice came from outside.
Sophie frowned.
He had said she wasn't modest before, but now who was being immodest?
The sound outside stopped.
Sophie didn't believe he would really stay in the living room naked without clothes.
A few minutes later, she seemed to hear someone ringing the doorbell.
The doorbell kept ringing, and her phone rang too.
It was Emily calling.
"Aren't you already back?" Emily said on the phone. "I'm at your door. Hurry up and open it."
Sophie had forgotten that when she got off the plane, she'd texted Emily saying she'd be home soon.
Emily had said she'd bring her some takeout.
Because Matthew kept pestering her, she'd completely forgotten about it.
"Right away." Sophie opened the door.
She immediately saw Matthew standing at the door with a towel around his waist, his hair damp. When he turned his head, that chiseled face made Sophie's mind go blank for a moment.
She admitted that Matthew was the best-looking man she'd ever seen.
At this moment, his upper body was bare, his strong and powerful body radiating intense masculinity. The well-defined muscles on his abs moved slightly with his breathing. The white towel hung on his hips, his V-line extending inward—sexy and tempting.
He wasn't just good-looking with a great body, he was also very strong, easily making her fall for him.
With such eye candy in front of her, any woman would turn into a pervert.
Sophie's heart raced as she desperately tried to calm her wild emotions.
She saw his hand on the doorknob.
Just as he was about to turn it, Sophie cried out, "Don't you dare open it!"
Matthew raised an eyebrow, clearly being bad but acting serious. "The guest has been waiting outside for a long time."
"Get inside!" Sophie swallowed, calming herself, pointing at the bedroom. "Get in there right now!"
Matthew was in no hurry. "There's a guest. I should meet them."
"Matthew!" Sophie was angry. "How can you see anyone looking like that?"
"I told you to bring me some clothes, but you wouldn't." Matthew looked down at the towel. "Luckily, there was one of yours inside."
Sophie stared at the towel, her mouth opening and closing.
There was no time now to worry about him wearing her towel.
"Sophie, open the door." Outside, Emily was calling.
Sophie felt as awkward as if she were hiding a boy toy and was about to be caught.
It wasn't anything else. It was just because of how Matthew looked right now that she was anxious.
If he had clothes on, she wouldn't care at all.
"Get inside." Sophie could only soften her tone. "It won't look good if she sees you."
Matthew didn't move.
