Chapter 104
Sophie was shocked that he would go along with it like that.
Matthew narrowed his eyes, "Really?"
"Bored or not? If you insist on sleeping here, then sleep here." Sophie couldn't be bothered to argue with him. He wouldn't do anything anyway.
Sophie still felt quite at ease with him.
As long as she didn't seduce him, he wouldn't make any moves.
After lying back down, she turned to face the other side and closed her eyes.
Matthew saw this and turned off the light, then lay down too.
Lying flat on his back, he turned his head to glance at Sophie and took a deep breath.
Sophie heard his breathing, and her heart involuntarily tightened.
She thought Matthew was going to do something, but after waiting a long time, he did nothing.
Not disappointed, just as expected.
Suddenly, the person behind her moved.
She opened her eyes wide, and Matthew's arm draped over her waist, his body pressing close.
Even through the fabric, she could feel his burning body temperature, and his strong, powerful heartbeat penetrated through her back, beating in sync with her own heart.
Sophie tensed up, didn't turn around, and didn't make a sound.
Matthew's breath was right by her ear, moist and scorching.
Two unfamiliar bodies pressed together like this. Sophie couldn't sleep, but behind her, Matthew's breathing became steady.
How could he fall asleep?
Sophie was held in his arms, and it felt like countless ants were crawling inside her body, making her tingly and uncomfortable, with a strange sensation stirring restlessly.
She knew what it was.
Swallowing, she moved slightly, trying to escape from his chest.
But with just that small movement, the arm around her waist tightened.
Sophie's eyes widened in shock.
He wasn't asleep!
"Don't move." His deep voice was right by her ear, husky and somewhat sexy.
Sophie grabbed his hand and tried to remove it, "It's hot."
Matthew didn't open his eyes. "Keep your mind calm and you'll feel cool."
Sophie wanted to curse.
Sophie didn't want to be held by him like this. Her self-control wasn't very good.
She couldn't stand it.
She struggled out of his arms, got out of bed, and turned on the light.
Matthew looked at her, "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to sleep outside." Sophie didn't look back.
She went to the guest bedroom, turned the air conditioning down very low, and the cool air filled the entire room. She sat on the edge of the bed, hands propped on her legs, catching her breath until her heart finally calmed down.
Afraid Matthew would barge in again, she quickly locked the bedroom door.
She couldn't sleep at all.
She called Emily, who answered instantly.
"Still not asleep?" Emily asked.
"Matthew came over." Sophie's tone was urgent.
Emily didn't think much of it. "Did he come to make up with you?"
"When I got home, he was asleep on the sofa. I was going to cook noodles, but he had already cooked the dishes. When I went to sleep, he came into my bedroom, got into my bed, and even held me."
"Isn't that pretty good?" Emily laughed, "Something you've been looking forward to."
Sophie rolled her eyes, "If it were before, I'd definitely be excited. But things are different now. Don't you think it's too weird?"
"What's weird about it? He just came to make up. Won't you give him a chance?"
"You don't get what I mean."
"I get it." Emily said, "He didn't give you what you wanted when you wanted it. Now you don't want it anymore, and he's here. So, you don't want it."
"Right." Sophie sighed, "I didn't tell you, but his mom called me back to the Moore Mansion for dinner and started pushing me to have kids."
Now Emily was surprised.
"What?"
"I don't want to." Sophie's mood was low. "Even though I was thinking about this and that before, once it involves having kids, I wake up."
"Matthew and I, we won't last long."
Emily was silent for a moment, then said, "Actually, with relationships, no one can say whether they'll last or not. Don't they all just live day by day? If someone promises you forever, would you believe it? Some people seem like they won't last, but they end up living together until they die."
"To be realistic, did you ever think your marriage with Matthew would last this long?" Emily asked back, "You didn't think so, right?"
That was indeed realistic.
"So, don't think so much. Do what you want to do. If you're afraid of getting pregnant, just use protection. Besides, getting pregnant isn't that easy. A colleague of mine has been married to her husband for three years, never used protection, got checked out, nothing wrong, but still hasn't gotten pregnant."
"Live in the moment. That's what you said before. Now, why so many worries?"
Emily's advice was helpful. Sophie felt less anxious.
"I'm so annoyed." Sophie lay flat on the bed, getting more and more awake, "I still feel like he and I won't last long."
"So what? Deal with it when that day comes. He's your husband now, do whatever you want, don't hold back." Emily egged her on, "Bring out that initial attitude of yours. Life is just about getting by day by day."
Sophie smiled, "Afraid of being responsible."
"Are you afraid he'll cling to you desperately?"
At this question, Sophie paused, then laughed, "True. Someone like him, how could that be possible?"
"Exactly. Go sleep with him." Emily yawned, "You're much happier than me. You're anxious about whether to sleep with a man or not. I'm anxious about when I can finish this document."
Sophie asked, "Still working overtime?"
"Yeah. Ugh, life is so boring, I'm thinking of finding a man to relax with."
Sophie was afraid of delaying Emily's work, so she didn't chat with her anymore.
After ending the call, Sophie stared at the bedroom door but didn't go to sleep with Matthew.
Sophie sat on the bed until two in the morning before finally lying down to sleep.
The next day.
When she opened her eyes, she was still wondering why she had slept in this room, then, after waking up fully, she remembered last night's events.
Glancing at her phone, it was already ten o'clock.
There was a new message on Facebook.
She opened it. It was from Matthew.
【Breakfast is on the table, I'm leaving.】
Seeing this message, Sophie suddenly felt a bit guilty.
Matthew was showing goodwill, she knew.
After washing up and walking to the dining room, looking at the breakfast on the table, Sophie sent Matthew two words.
Matthew was in a meeting room when he saw the new Facebook notification appear on his screen. He opened it.
【Thanks.】
He thought back to Sophie's behavior last night. It really wasn't like her.
After the meeting ended, Matthew called Emily and invited her to lunch.
Emily was very surprised to receive Matthew's call. She was about to go negotiate with a client and couldn't make lunch.
"Who are you meeting? Where?" Matthew asked.
Hearing this, Emily didn't hide anything and told him the location.
Matthew said, "Got it."
Emily didn't understand what he meant by "got it." Strange.
She wanted to tell Sophie about it, but the client's car arrived, so Emily didn't have time to tell Sophie.
Emily's negotiation with the client wasn't going smoothly. This client was notoriously difficult to deal with, and landing them was obviously going to be challenging.
A figure appeared at the door. Emily was shocked.
When the client saw Matthew, he actually stood up with a flattering smile, "Mr. Moore!"
Matthew walked in, just nodded at the other person, then asked Emily, "Done talking?"
"Not yet." Emily couldn't figure out what Matthew meant, so she told the truth.
"Mr. Moore and Miss Johnson know each other well?" The client looked back and forth between the two of them.
Matthew said, "I asked her to lunch."
Hearing this, the client's eyes darted around, then he looked like he understood, "Why didn't Miss Johnson say so earlier? Miss Johnson, come to my company to pick up the contract later, or I'll have someone deliver it to your company. Whichever is more convenient for you?"
Emily saw the change in the client's attitude and knew it was because of Matthew's influence.
With this kind of influence, why not use it?
"I'll pick it up."
"Good, good, good. Then I won't disturb you two for your meal." The client was very tactful and left quickly.
Emily breathed a sigh of relief.
Matthew sat down across from her with an arrogant attitude.
