Chapter 45
"What the hell is this?" Jeremy stared at what stood before him and the group.
Except it was nothing that stood in front of them. The whole outside was white and empty. The buildings, cars and street lights the group saw before they entered the restaurant were gone. It was like they were in a void. Apart from the group, no form of living thing was in existence.
Jeremy gaped as his eyes scanned the whole place. It was like he was in a simulated room. All he could see was white. The floor, white. The space in front, white. No sky. Nothing.
"Nuri prepared really hard for this." Verona stopped beside him, looking around.
"We have to..." He spun around and gasped.
Everyone beside him was still. They had empty stares in their eyes. From the White family to his mother, no one moved. It looked like there were no signs of life.
"Guys?" Jeremy walked towards them, Verona following behind.
"Mom?" Jeremy waved his hand frantically in front of June's eyes. She didn't blink. She didn't move. Her eyes remained open and stared blankly at nothing.
"Mom, come on!" Jeremy grabbed her and shook her but still didn't budge.
"Mandy?" He moved over to his mate and shook her also. He got the same non reaction. He left her and moved over to the rest of the group. Gabi, Felicia and Gerard. He made the same attempts. He got the same result.
"What the hell is happening to them?" He faced Verona who was standing by his mother.
"Their minds must have been placed in a trance," Verona said as she peered into June's eyes. "This magic is so powerful enough to overwhelm adult werewolves. Nuri's magic seems to have reached an apex. But there is something strange about this magic."
She turned around and faced Jeremy.
"She's tapping from a dark source. A being that has existed for centuries on this earth." She frowned.
"Dominic," Jeremy seethed, clenching his fists.
Verona nodded. "She's drawing power from his blood. I knew she had become unruly But I never expected her to sink this low."
"But it seems we're the only ones immune to this attack from her," she added. "It must have to do with the energy you got from your ancestral home. In my case, I have no idea why?"
"Is there something you can do?" Jeremy asked, his eyes pleading.
Verona looked at the catatonic group in front of them and took a huge breath.
"I'll try my best, alpha," she sighed.
Jeremy nodded.
Verona shut her eyes tight and clenched her fists. She muttered in an ancient tone and a sudden wind surrounded her, blowing her hair upwards. Her voice became louder and she let out a cry stretching her hands against the catatonic group. A blast of wind hit them and she opened her eyes. She stared at them along with Jeremy.
Nothing changed. They were still under the spell.
"Verona?" Jeremy stared at her desperately.
"I don't understand." She frowned. "I called the right intonation. What could have..."
She paused as her eyes widened. She turned around to face Jeremy.
"That's it," she said. "This magic needs a counter attack from an entity as powerful. Nuri drew her magic from Dominic."
She walked towards him and stopped before him.
"I can draw mine from you," she said.
"Are you sure?" Jeremy said skeptically.
"Yes. You're the chosen Alpha which makes you different than the normal werewolf and there is also the fact that you have a lot of energy and power within you to rival Dominic's. Give me your hands," she said.
Jeremy stared at the group. His eyes landed on his mother and then to Mandy and they narrowed. He then faced Verona who was waiting.
"Alright." He stretched out his hands and she took them.
She chanted again and a more powerful wind emanated from them. Jeremy had to shut his eyes as the force was overwhelming. Verona opened her eyes and they were green. She released his hands and faced the group. With a loud cry, she stretched out her hands towards them and a huge blast of wind made it's way towards the group. Verona sighed and bent down a bit.
"Did it work?" Jeremy faced the group.
Series of groans answered his question as he saw them on the floor.
"Guys!" A grin lit up his face as he ran towards them. He helped his mother to her feet as the rest of the group found theirs. Jeremy noticed the whiteness of the place vanish and everywhere was back to normal. The cars and buildings were back. The sky was visible and now dark signaling dusk.
"Jeremy?" June spoke beside him. "What happened?"
"It's a long story," he chuckled as he pulled her into a hug. Confused, she hugged him back.
"Thank you." Jeremy turned to face Verona. His eyes widened as he saw her state. She looked disheveled and there was blood running out of her left nostril. She managed a weak smile as she staggered towards the group.
"Verona?" June gasped.
Verona slipped into darkness as she slowly collapsed. Jeremy quickly ran towards her and caught her before she could hit the ground. He held her in his arms, watching her eyes close.
"Verona?" he called out to her softly.
"Verona!"
