Chapter 521

Chapter 521

The two stared at each other.

Zola's eyes were ice-cold, the hate in them almost spilling over.

The male nurse across from her looked hurt, like he was the victim.

He took two steps back, frustrated, and ran a hand through his hair. "Why won't you help me? When I needed it most, everyone just stood by and watched. You all forced my hand. I reached out as soon as I got back to the country and wanted to work with you. Why did you turn me down?"

Never try to wake someone who's pretending to sleep.

That was exactly what this guy was doing.

Completely shameless.

He had contacted her when he returned, but Zola was busy with a big project at the company, and Chris was watching her like a hawk. She was already swamped every day and would've put anything else on hold.

She just didn't realize that to him, being busy meant she was refusing to help.

Zola took a deep breath and forced down her anger. "Please. You know my brother and I have always been close. I don't want him hurt. How is he? You have to save him."

"Sure. If you want your brother to walk out of that operating room alive, sign the papers. You know I can make it happen."

The male nurse sounded confident and even pulled out a business card. It clearly showed he had become a new shareholder in the hospital.

That meant he controlled life and death here. If he wanted her brother to die on the table, it would be easy—medical accidents happened all the time.

Zola was stunned. Just as the nurse thought she was about to give in, she turned to Sebastian and held up her phone, which had been recording.

"Open your eyes and look. This is Sebastian, head of the Manners family and the hospital's biggest shareholder. And this recording proves that if anything happens to my brother, it's on you."

"Listen carefully. My brother has to live, and he has to live healthy. If anything goes wrong, I'll ruin you. You're fighting your illegitimate sibling over the family money? I'll make sure you end up with nothing."

She had finally shown her cards.

They had grown up together like family. When they were kids, Zola used to follow the guy next door around like a shadow. Later, when her brother came along, both of them trailed after this man.

But time had changed everything. The warm, gentle person from her memories was gone, replaced by someone who acted like a devil.

Zola knew how brutal rich families could be when fighting over money, but she refused to use anyone as a stepping stone.

She kept her face blank. "Remember, my brother has to live…"

……

The male nurse was the one frozen now.

He couldn't believe his ears. The man in front of him was Sebastian. Back in the day, Sebastian had already been a rising business star, running the company on his own even before the nurse left the country. His face had looked younger then, so it took a moment to recognize him.

He knew there was nothing he could do now, especially with Zola holding that recording.

Panicking, he turned and rushed back into the operating room without thinking.

The moment he stepped inside, Adelaide walked out, looking exhausted.

He jumped and immediately asked, "How is he?"

The sudden question startled Adelaide. She was too tired to deal with him and tried to push past, but he grabbed her arm and wouldn't let go.

"Are you mute? I've asked you a dozen times. How is he? That brat didn't die, did he?"

His grip was so tight it hurt. Adelaide's face twisted in pain, and with all her anger boiling over, she kicked him hard.

He screamed and collapsed to the floor, curling up. Adelaide gave him a cold look, turned, and walked out without another word.

Outside, Zola saw her and jumped. "How is he? My brother's okay, right?"

"Don't worry, he'll be fine. But how did he end up like this? They said it was a car accident, but the injuries don't match."

As Zola's friend, Adelaide told her the truth and listed every wound.

Zola looked confused. "What? They said it was a car accident."

"I don't know the rest, but it wasn't a simple accident. You should look into it. Also, there's a psycho here who's way too interested in your brother. Something's off—check him out."

Adelaide, who hadn't slept all night, just wanted to go to bed. She walked over to Sebastian on shaky legs and sat on his lap. "Honey, I want to sleep."

"Okay."

Sebastian looked at her with pure affection, clearly worried about how tired she was, and carried her back to the room.

Zola stood alone outside the operating room, her head spinning. Her brother had gotten hurt so suddenly, and she hadn't told their parents because she didn't want them to worry. But could she really handle something this big by herself?

She found all her brother's test results and sent them to another hospital.

Soon, she got a reply.

When she saw the experts' conclusions, her face went cold. She went straight to the director's office, slammed her hand on the desk, and said coldly, "Is this how you treat patients' families? I don't know medicine, so I trusted you. And you lied to me? Look at your test results, then look at your conclusion…"

She had reached her limit. Furious, Zola threw all the papers at the director.

He had been up all night too and was already in a bad mood, but when he saw the two completely different conclusions, he froze.

As director, he'd seen it all over the years. Changing conclusions wasn't unusual.

What shocked him was how bold the doctor had been. How much money had he taken to write something this irresponsible?
