Chapter 504

Chapter 504

Days went by one after another.

The Manners family seemed calm on the surface, but tensions were brewing underneath.

Gavin focused all his attention on Marcus's birthday and hardly ever came to the hospital to see Evelyn.

Instead, Adelaide, who was swamped every day, showed up here frequently.

That day, after a thorough check, Evelyn's condition was good enough for her to leave the hospital.

But Adelaide still looked worried. "She just had a concussion and spent time in the ICU not long ago, and now she needs a second brain surgery. Even though we've got a professional team at home, wouldn't it be better for her to stay in the hospital?"

For Adelaide, she could still visit and look after Evelyn here at the hospital. But if Evelyn went home, it wouldn't be as easy to drop by.

After all, everyone knew about what happened between her and Gavin.

They saw each other all the time, and Adelaide worried Sebastian might get jealous if it went on too long.

She couldn't let go of Evelyn, but she wouldn't let others affect Sebastian's state either.

The doctor thought for a moment. "Your concerns make sense. We know you're worried about something happening at home without quick medical help. But don't worry, we've prepared a life monitoring machine for Mrs. Evelyn Manners..."

The machine was expensive, but it could effectively track vital signs.

It would immediately alert emergency contacts if Evelyn's condition changed.

Hearing this, Adelaide let out a sigh of relief, but she still felt reluctant to let go.

"Grandma, do you really have to leave the hospital? You know about my health—these days I have to stay here. I won't feel at ease if you go home, and I can't just drop by anytime."

To Adelaide, Evelyn was the elder she respected most, so she hated to see her leave.

Evelyn's eyes welled up as she gently pulled Adelaide into a hug. "I know what you're thinking—you're just worried about me. Don't worry, there are maids and a housekeeper at home, plus professional medical staff. It'll be fine."

She lovingly stroked Adelaide's hair. "If anyone's worried, it's me worrying about you the most, my poor child. From now on, you have to be more careful and not let people take advantage of you."

She knew Adelaide was pregnant and about to become a mom.

Evelyn was even more concerned. "I know you don't want to worry me or make me upset, but promise Grandma you'll put your health first."

"Okay, I get it. Today I'm skipping school and the company—I'll personally take you home."

After running around to handle all the hospital paperwork, Adelaide thought about calling Gavin to pick her up. But she called several times, and he still didn't pick up.

It made her so mad she wanted to storm over and drag him back.

Gavin was obsessed now—Marcus was all he could think about; he forgot everyone else.

Half an hour passed, and the phone still wouldn't connect, so Adelaide had to send a car to take Evelyn home.

To cheer everyone up, Adelaide even took her straight back to the family home.

But what they didn't expect was hearing noise from next door as soon as they reached the door.

Simon had been brought back, and now the whole family living together made things really lively.

Evelyn sat in her wheelchair, frowning at the sounds from next door. "What's going on with them? Why did they move here..."

Simon owned many properties, but Verity and the others had messed things up so much that only this one was left lately.

Of course, they couldn't sell this house—they only had the right to live in it, not own it.

Adelaide sneered. "Grandma, if you're not comfortable staying here, should we switch to another house? Because it's going to be really, really noisy here."

Simon, Elodie, and Verity—the three of them were going to cause a lot of trouble next.

Evelyn shook her head. "No need, I've lived here so long I'm used to it. Now that I'm home, go do what you need to do—don't worry about me."

Evelyn often said things like that, but her eyes were full of smiles.

During Evelyn's hospital stay, someone had been cleaning the house, but it wasn't thorough—there was still some dust. With no choice, Adelaide pitched in to help.

After tidying up the whole place and settling Evelyn in, Adelaide headed next door to watch the drama.

At that moment, the big villa was full of chaos.

Adelaide went straight to the stairwell corner—a perfect spot to watch.

In the living room, Simon had been dumped in a wheelchair. He looked awful and pathetic, wanting help but not knowing who to ask.

Verity's sharp voice rang out. "Enough, Elodie. Let's be straight—I know why you insisted on moving here. You have nowhere else to live, right? If you want to stay, you can have the downstairs or the basement. That way you won't stink up the place."

"How can you have no conscience? This is your brother. Without Simon, could you have lived this fancy life wearing gold and silver? And you're treating him like this..."

Elodie was about to explode.

It wasn't really about getting Simon a comfy room—it was about fighting for her own benefits.

Now that the whole family was under one roof, they had to argue it out, especially over rooms.

As the head of the house, she and Simon deserved the biggest room and the second biggest bedroom.

When they moved in, Elodie had it all planned: Simon in one room, her in another, and an extra room for her daughter.

But as soon as they arrived, Cecilia and Verity moved in too. Cecilia thumped her cane hard on the floor. "Who do you think you are? Pregnant with some bastard, and you want our good rooms? You take the basement or first floor—no going upstairs."

Normally, they would have listened to Cecilia.

But things were different now.

Simon was crippled, which meant Cecilia's status as the elder was worthless.

Elodie smirked. "Fine, whatever. By law, we're husband and wife, so we can handle these assets. You're relatives, so you're welcome to stay if you want. If not, get out."
