Chapter 186: The Events of That Year?

Chapter 186: The Events of That Year?

Olivia suddenly looked up, equally surprised.

She remembered clearly that Jennifer had already gone to the hospital the night of the charity gala. How could she suddenly be in the emergency room now, and in such serious condition?

Of course, none of this had anything to do with her.

Cameron told Kurt to head over first and find out what was going on.

He hung up the phone. "Sorry, I..."

"I understand. What you have going on is more important." Olivia was calm. She had long stopped having any expectations. Even though things were different from what she'd anticipated, she wouldn't feel too disappointed or upset.

Cameron wanted to say something more, but Olivia had already continued with what she was doing, seemingly completely unbothered.

Since Jennifer's situation was urgent, Cameron had no choice but to rush over, because this accident was deliberately caused by someone.

He hurried to the hospital.

Outside the emergency room, Daphne and Everett stood by the door, their faces anxious and worried.

"Mr. Hayes!"

Daphne rushed forward as if he were her lifeline. "Jennifer was fine at her apartment, but she suddenly called, saying someone was trying to kill her and had gotten inside."

"Luckily, Everett and I were just heading over to see her, so we were able to rescue her in time."

"You weren't there, you don't know how terrifying it was! Blood everywhere!"

As if recalling some horrific scene, Daphne's face turned pale, and she swayed unsteadily. She leaned against the wall, wiping her tears. "Mr. Hayes, you must find this criminal!"

In the distance, Everett stood there, staring coldly at Cameron.

Cameron said a few words to comfort Daphne, then walked toward Everett. "What exactly happened?"

Though Everett hated Cameron in his heart, right now, he could only temporarily set aside his prejudice and clearly explain everything at the scene to Cameron.

"We've already called the police and roughly explained the situation. Still waiting for their investigation."

Cameron nodded slightly, looking thoughtful.

Seeing that Cameron showed no sign of worry about Jennifer's accident, Everett's anger flared up again. "Mr. Hayes, don't you care at all?"

"If something happens to Jennifer, or if the baby can't be saved!"

Cameron noticed Everett's emotions were off, but it also seemed within a reasonable range. He frowned. "Even if I'm worried and anxious, there's nothing I can do right now."

"So just being worried and anxious is enough?"

Everett was taken aback, clenching his fists. "Last night, Jennifer had someone contact your secretary, saying she wanted to see you and had something to tell you. Why didn't you go?"

Cameron really didn't know about this.

But even if he had known, he wouldn't have easily gone to see Jennifer.

The more clearly he saw what the Harper family members were really like, the less he wanted to have much contact with them.

"Back then, you and Jennifer told me that Olivia married me purely for money? You also gave me some evidence. Where did that evidence come from?"

The sudden topic change stunned Everett, and he hadn't expected Cameron to ask about this.

After all, it was so long ago. He thought the matter was over.

"Some people who knew the situation gave me the evidence anonymously. I promised them I would never reveal their identities, so there's no point in you asking about this."

"You already know the facts. What's there to doubt?"

Cameron let out a cold laugh. "Things are exactly as you say?"

Everett had calmed down. "That's how it is. If you don't believe it, go ahead and investigate, but the result will be the same."

"If Olivia hadn't threatened my parents back then, saying she wanted to replace Jennifer and marry you, how could we have agreed? Plus, Olivia brought up her father's kindness to us - what could we do?"

"She even almost got Jennifer killed."

"Don't tell me you've forgotten all this, or that you don't believe us?"

"All the evidence is right there in front of you."

Faced with Everett's questioning, Cameron detected several inconsistencies in his story. Though it wasn't much different from what was said before, clearly Everett was still choosing to hide some things.

Cameron stared at Everett for a few seconds but didn't say anything.

The red light of the emergency room went dark just then.

Everett seized the moment to step away.

In fact, he was panicking inside, not knowing what Cameron had discovered that made him bring all this up again.

"Doctor, how's my daughter!" Daphne rushed over immediately. "Please, doctor, you must save my daughter!"

The doctor signaled for both Daphne and Everett to calm down first.

He took off his mask. "The patient's condition has stabilized, and the baby is fine, but the patient's body is too weak and needs proper rest."

"That's good, that's so good." Daphne breathed a sigh of relief.

Everett turned to look at Cameron.

Cameron stood in place. Hearing the doctor's words, he felt uneasy, though he couldn't quite explain why.

Soon, Jennifer woke up, her face pale and weak.

But when she saw Cameron was there too, she immediately broke into a smile.

"Cameron."

Cameron nodded slightly, signaling Jennifer not to speak yet. "Rest well. Whatever you need to say can wait until after you've slept."

But Jennifer's eyes reddened. Her voice was hoarse. "No, Cameron, listen to me first. Last night I... was already getting ready for bed, but suddenly someone rang the doorbell..."

"I went to ask who it was, and he said he was Justin."

"That's right." Everett's face darkened. "The person in the surveillance footage was Justin. I saw very clearly - even though he was wearing a baseball cap, the build was Justin's! I wasn't sure at first, but now that Jennifer has confirmed it was Justin, it must have been him! Justin attacked you?"

Tears slid down Jennifer's face. She kept nodding, choking up. "Yes, it was Justin... He said I was in Olivia's way, that he wanted to clear all obstacles for Olivia..."

Just then, Cameron saw the surveillance footage. The man's build in it was indeed ninety percent similar to Justin's.

But Cameron felt that no matter how impulsive Justin was, he couldn't possibly do something like this.

Still, right now, he needed to take a stance.

"Jennifer, calm down first. The doctor said you must rest well. If you get too emotional, it could easily affect the baby."

"As for Justin, I'll have someone... arrest him."

Jennifer's eyes were red. "Cameron, will you really arrest Justin? He's Olivia's brother. Won't you let him off for Olivia's sake?"

"I know you've developed feelings for Olivia, haven't you?"

To an outsider hearing Jennifer confront Cameron like this, would think Cameron was a playboy who had just cheated.

Cameron's face darkened. "Jennifer, we need to investigate further to know what really happened."

"If Justin really did this, I absolutely won't let him off, and neither will the police."

Just as Cameron finished speaking, his phone rang. The caller ID showed Olivia.
