Chapter 90
In the end, Emily and William's persistence finally moved Amelia.
With their constant coaxing and tag-team effort, Amelia eventually gave in and agreed to go home with them.
"Mom, go pack your things. We'll head home soon."
Thinking that the family would finally be reunited, Emily's eyes showed some joy, and her voice unconsciously carried a hint of happiness.
Amelia looked at her with a smile and nodded gently. "Okay, wait here for a bit. I don't have much, I'll be ready soon."
While they happily packed things on their end, planning what to buy once they got home.
Meanwhile, Brian received a call from his assistant. "Mr. Johnson, the online situation is completely out of control. Should we try some other approaches?"
Brian sat at his desk looking impatient. "If I had a solution, why would I keep you people around? I pay you to solve problems for me."
His tone was extremely impatient, and he pushed all the responsibility onto his assistant.
The assistant sighed silently on the other end, a hint of helpless resignation crossing his eyes.
How did he end up with such a boss?
It wasn't even his mess to begin with, and he was already doing well trying to fix it, yet Brian kept giving him grief.
But the assistant quickly adjusted his mindset and proposed several solutions.
"Let's go with the first one then." Brian casually dropped that line and hung up.
Sophia really knew how to create trouble for him!
Thinking that all this was because of Sophia, Brian felt his teeth itch with hatred.
If it weren't for Sophia, how could he have gotten into all this mess?
But he never considered his own problems—all the blame was pushed onto Sophia and his assistant.
The more Brian thought about it, the angrier he got, and he directly called Sophia.
The phone rang for a long time, until the busy tone came through, but no one answered.
"This bastard!" Brian looked at the automatically disconnected call, a fire burning in his chest.
He cursed under his breath, too bad Sophia wasn't there.
Even if Sophia were there, she wouldn't take Brian's words to heart—after all, she was already numb to it.
Sophia couldn't fix this situation anymore. Brian could do whatever he wanted.
At the bar, watching the call disconnect automatically, Sophia didn't even blink.
"Keep drinking."
Looking at the sexy man in front of her, Sophia couldn't help but reach out and touch his Adam's apple.
"You're still the best, willing to keep me company while I drown my sorrows at this hour." As she spoke, she let out a foolish laugh, a hint of self-mockery flashing in her eyes.
The person she once looked down on was doing pretty well now.
"If you hadn't given me a chance, how would I have what I have now?" The man obediently nuzzled Sophia's hand with his face, looking docile and sensible, though the calculating gleam in his eyes ruined his overall appearance.
Sophia naturally knew his intentions weren't pure, but so what?
She lowered her eyes slightly, hiding the turbulent emotions beneath.
The phone rang again, and Sophia didn't even glance at it.
She naturally knew why Brian was calling repeatedly.
But since this matter couldn't be fixed anymore, let him do whatever he wanted.
On the other end, Brian had pretty much guessed Sophia's attitude of giving up.
Listening to the continuous busy tone on the phone, he was so angry he almost smashed his phone.
If he had known she'd be like this, he wouldn't have...
Good things don't come often, but bad things always come in succession.
Brian hadn't even swallowed his anger when the nursing home called. "Mr. Johnson, Amelia has been picked up by someone."
A deliberately lowered voice came through the phone.
And the information revealed by that voice was what truly alarmed Brian.
"What? Didn't I tell you to watch her? How could you let someone take her away?" Brian said frantically while grabbing the suit jacket thrown over his chair.
"I'm coming over right now. Don't let them leave." He rushed out in a hurry, but the person on the other end dealt him a blow.
"Mr. Johnson, I really can't stop this person. You'll have to figure it out yourself. I've done my duty by notifying you. The rest isn't my responsibility." The person dropped that line and hung up hastily.
"Damn it!" A shadow crossed Brian's eyes, and his grip on the suit jacket tightened.
As he walked out, he thought about who could have picked up Amelia from the nursing home.
Besides Emily, there probably wasn't a second person.
Her three children hadn't grown up, and Amelia had no other family here.
The only person she could rely on was Emily.
So the person who took Amelia away could only be one person—Emily!
Emily had ruined his plans again.
Brian thought bitterly.
As if thinking of something, he called his assistant again. "Find someone else to handle the online situation. For now, I need you to do this..."
He turned back to his office, quietly giving instructions over the phone.
There were plenty of schemes and calculations behind the scenes, impossible to guard against.
While Brian was breaking down, Emily and William had already gotten Amelia, who had packed her luggage, into the car and were speeding back to the new house.
Looking at the rapidly retreating street scenes outside the window, a hint of melancholy crossed Amelia's eyes.
She hadn't left the nursing home in so long, and she hadn't seen such scenery in ages.
"Mom, don't worry, I'll definitely protect you."
William sat in the driver's seat, while Emily held Amelia's hand in the back seat, gently comforting her.
"Good child, thank you for your hard work." Amelia reached out to brush away the hair blown across her face by the wind, the gentle light in her eyes shining into Emily's heart.
"It's okay, it's all in the past now."
Hearing Amelia's comfort, Emily's eyes stung slightly.
Mother and daughter held hands tightly, neither speaking again, but the strong family bond kept warming up in the car.
"Mom, we're here."
The car stopped in the underground parking garage. Emily got out first and opened the door for her.
Amelia sat by the car, looking around the underground garage, then looked up at Emily. "Is this our new home?"
Meeting her eyes filled with cautious anticipation, Emily's nose tingled and she almost cried.
She nodded hard, tears welling up in her eyes. "Yes, Mom, this is our home."
