Chapter 27
William seemed to notice something unusual in her tone, but he didn't think much of it.
"The injury on your leg has been getting better recently. Just take good care of it, and after a while, you'll be able to move around freely," Emily comforted him. After changing the dressing, she cleaned up.
"Okay," William replied and fell silent. The two of them said nothing for a moment.
Emily picked up the medical kit and prepared to leave. Just as she reached the door, she turned back and asked softly, "How's your memory recovery going?"
Emily hadn't forgotten that she was willing to let William stay, not just because of his injuries, but also because he had no memory and nowhere to go.
A bitter smile appeared on William's lips as he shook his head. "I still can't remember anything. I only vaguely recall some fragments, something about being on a cliff."
His description was fairly specific, but there were cliffs around this area too. Emily couldn't possibly accompany him to search them one by one.
"It's okay, just rest well for now! Maybe things will get better after some time. If you recover your memory, just let me know right away," Emily said, quietly breathing a sigh of relief.
William's injuries weren't healed yet, so perhaps he could help her take care of the kids for a while longer.
She needed to speed things up and find a suitable kindergarten for the two children before William left.
Humans were social creatures, and the two kids were too young to be isolated from groups for too long.
Otherwise, it would affect their mental and physical health later on.
William didn't think that much about it and just nodded in agreement.
After Emily left, a figure quietly climbed in through the window.
Robert looked at William, removing the gauze from his eyes with some surprise. "Mr. Brown, are your eyes already healed?"
Facing his question, William shook his head. "Not completely yet. I can only vaguely see some things, but it is getting better."
Robert nodded, filled with joy.
If William was getting better, that meant the time for him to return to the Brown Mansion wasn't far off.
Henry and Austin weren't easy to deal with, and during this time, they had been giving Raymond a lot of trouble. He had even mentioned leaving all the family assets to Aiden.
When that came out, Robert really worried they might get desperate and go after Aiden, who was still at the Brown Mansion.
However, to avoid making William too worried and affecting his recovery, Robert didn't mention this.
"By the way, go check which is the best kindergarten in Emerald City," William instructed.
It was only when Emily mentioned it today that he remembered Aiden was also old enough for kindergarten.
Previously, William had hired a private tutor to teach him at home, but this wasn't a long-term solution. Aiden still needed to learn how to socialize.
Robert was stunned for a moment by William's question, then quickly responded respectfully. "Mr. Brown, Funshine Preschool in the city center is the best kindergarten. It has excellent teachers and top-level security measures. Many children of government officials and business elites attend there."
His answer was very detailed, and William was satisfied.
"Very good."
William nodded slightly. "Contact the principal of that kindergarten right away and arrange for Ms. Johnson's two children to enroll. Also, Aiden is old enough for school now, so put them all in the same class."
William thought that Nina and Oscar's personalities would definitely get along with Aiden, and perhaps they could help make Aiden more outgoing.
Robert nodded. "Don't worry, I'll arrange everything properly."
William had no doubts; after all, Robert was someone he had personally trained.
"How have things been at the Brown family these past few days?" He asked about the Brown family's recent activities as if it were routine.
"Your two uncles are still restless, but with your grandfather keeping them in check, they can't really do anything," Robert said after thinking, ultimately deciding not to mention what Raymond had said.
Telling him now would only add to William's worries without serving any purpose. It was better for him to just protect "Aiden" well.
"That's good. You must protect Aiden well. This child is sensitive, and with me not being home for so long, you need to comfort him properly."
Thinking of Aiden's clingy nature, William felt both sweet affection and some burden.
This was a child he had raised himself—how could he not care?
Robert pressed his lips together, his expression somewhat strange.
"Mr. William Brown, Aiden's behavior during this time has been very different from usual. He's not clinging to Mr. Raymond Brown anymore, and instead has been chatting enthusiastically with the new programming teacher."
"Programming teacher?" William raised an eyebrow, his blurry vision falling on Robert in front of him.
"I don't remember arranging a programming teacher for him."
Robert nodded. "He requested it himself, saying he was interested in programming. I thought he was just playing around at first, but he's been keeping it up for a while now."
Hearing Robert's words, William became curious about "Aiden's" recent studies and asked about them in detail.
When he heard that "Aiden" and the programming teacher had hacked into another hotel's surveillance system, William vaguely sensed something was wrong.
"Which hotel did he hack into?"
"Azure Palace Hotel."
Robert knew this very specifically, since they had almost been traced that day.
If the Brown family's security network hadn't been advanced enough, their IP would have been exposed.
"Azure Palace Hotel..." William murmured, frowning.
If he remembered correctly, his first meeting with that woman seemed to have been outside the Azure Palace Hotel.
But he had never told Aiden about this. How would Aiden know, and why would he so precisely hack into that hotel's surveillance system?
After sensing something was wrong, William immediately ordered, "Keep a close eye on Aiden during this time. If there's anything unusual about him, report to me right away."
"Okay." Robert didn't ask questions and agreed directly.
It wasn't until they had finished discussing the next steps for the Brown Group that Robert climbed back out through the window.
Although he had left, William's mind was still on him.
Robert suddenly bringing this up must mean he had also noticed that "Aiden's" behavior was very different from usual.
But as an extremely cautious person, he wouldn't speak openly about things he wasn't sure of, which was why he didn't say it directly.
However, they had worked together for so long that William believed he understood him fairly well.
But he couldn't figure it out.
If the person at home now wasn't "Aiden," then who was he?
Who could have switched Aiden right under Robert's and the Browns' noses?
