Chapter 197
Emily couldn't dodge in time and was knocked to the ground by the vicious dog.
"Mommy!"
The three children had come out at some point. Seeing this, they cried out in alarm and were about to rush over, but William, who had just arrived, held them back tightly.
"Oscar, take your brother and sister back inside first."
Seeing the vicious dog about to continue attacking Emily, William quickly gave the instruction, then strode over, grabbed an iron rod lying nearby, and struck down hard.
The dog yelped in pain from the blow.
But it was a fierce one - it turned around wanting to lunge at William, yet seeing the stick in William's hand, it didn't dare take a step forward.
It bared its teeth and backed away, while shifting its gaze toward Emily, as if it had some kind of intelligence.
Emily quickly got up and retreated a few steps.
She pressed hard on her bitten wound, gasping from the pain.
Seeing this, William hurried over to protect her, asking in a low voice.
"Are you okay?"
"It hurts a bit."
Emily didn't hide her injury from him - after all, there was no hiding it.
Seeing William and Emily together, the vicious dog's hind legs scraped against the ground, kicking up dirt, arching its body to charge forward once again.
This time when it lunged, William struck ruthlessly, hitting it with one blow so hard it collapsed on the ground, unable to get up again.
"Awooo..."
The vicious dog was still barking wildly, though it no longer had the strength to attack Emily. Its eyes remained fixed on her.
"Oh my, what are we going to do?"
Eleanor came over at this moment, covering her mouth as she looked at the vicious dog, then at Emily who was protected behind William, tears instantly welling up.
"William, I know you care about Emily and want to protect her, but this is my grandfather's beloved dog. I was just taking it out for some air, and happened to walk by here, so I brought it to see Raymond. But now you've killed it - how am I supposed to explain this to my grandfather?"
Eleanor stamped her foot, looking anxious.
"It attacked someone without reason. I don't think any explanation is necessary."
William glanced at her coldly, then turned his attention back to Emily.
"Emily, I'm taking you to the hospital right now."
Meanwhile, Raymond had heard the commotion outside. He came out leaning on his cane and saw Emily clutching her wound, her brows tightly furrowed.
William was the same, looking at her with a face full of concern.
"What on earth is going on here?"
Raymond struck his cane hard against the ground and demanded sternly.
"Grandpa Raymond, I didn't mean to..."
Eleanor said, embellishing the story, then stepped sideways, deliberately blocking William and Emily's path.
"William, no matter how much you protect Emily, you still need to give my grandfather an explanation for this."
She knew, of course, that releasing the dog to attack Emily at this moment was inappropriate.
But she really couldn't wait any longer.
Thinking of what George Beaumont had said on the phone before she left, Eleanor's expression grew even darker.
If she waited any longer, she would have to marry another arranged match according to George's demands.
But she wasn't willing to accept that.
After all, she had known William first, and only she was worthy of William.
Watching Emily become William's fiancée, Eleanor had never been able to stand her.
Plus, before going out today, she had drunk several bottles of strong liquor. In her unclear state of mind, she had brought out George's dog.
She knew, of course, that there was something wrong with this dog.
But that was exactly why she had brought it out.
Seeing the standoff between both sides, William gave her no pleasant expression.
He looked up at Eleanor and asked coldly.
"Are you going to move or not?"
Eleanor bit her lip and shook her head. "William, I'm not trying to make things difficult for you, it's just that I..."
But before she could finish, William simply picked Emily up in his arms and walked into the Brown Mansion.
"William!"
Eleanor couldn't help but raise her voice, calling out to William, but he completely ignored her.
He took Emily inside and had the family doctor come to bandage her wound briefly, then invited Raymond and the others back in.
"Emily, Grandpa, wait here."
Without saying much else, William ordered his people to close the door, then whispered a few words to his assistant.
At this moment, only William and Eleanor were left facing each other in the garden.
"William, are you really going to treat me like this? We're the ones who grew up together. You said you would marry me when we were little. I've waited for you all these years, always looking forward to coming back from abroad, but when I returned, you already had her by your side."
As she spoke, two lines of tears slid down her face, her eyes looking at William with infinite resentment.
But William stood there like a block of wood, not listening to any of this at all, just standing in place looking at her coldly.
"Eleanor, I never realized before what a vicious person you are, that you would actually set a dog on Emily."
Hearing William personally call her vicious, Eleanor's heart clenched sharply.
"I..."
Before she could say anything more, the assistant walked in leading three Tibetan mastiffs.
Seeing those three Tibetan mastiffs baring their teeth with an aggressive air, Eleanor's face instantly turned pale.
"William, what are you trying to do?"
She unconsciously took two steps back, her eyes warily fixed on the three Tibetan mastiffs.
"I don't have any particular idea."
William pulled at the corner of his mouth slightly, then had his assistant release the leashes.
These three Tibetan mastiffs had been raised by him for a long time, so naturally they wouldn't attack William.
Standing here, the only person they found unfamiliar was Eleanor.
The three Tibetan mastiffs barked and lunged toward Eleanor.
Seeing these three dogs, as big as humans, charging at her, she was instantly scared pale.
"Get away, beasts! Get away!"
She grabbed her bag and swung it at the Tibetan mastiffs.
The mastiffs, hurt by the blows, became even more vicious, one of them biting into her arm and leaving a bloody wound.
"Ahhh—!"
Her scream pierced the sky, but William just stood there coldly, watching the three Tibetan mastiffs tear at her.
Of course, these three Tibetan mastiffs were trained - they wouldn't really hurt anyone seriously, just leave a few bite marks, nothing major.
"I was wrong, William, I know I was wrong, please let me go, I'll never dare again!"
Eleanor protected her vital areas while tears and snot ran down her face, begging William for mercy.
William watched for a moment, then whistled for his assistant to take the three Tibetan mastiffs away.
He walked up to Eleanor and looked down at her from above.
