Chapter 15
The moment William heard the whistle clearly, he immediately shot a look at the head bodyguard, who instantly understood. The man lightened his footsteps and circled around to the back of the courtyard to leave by climbing over the wall.
Emily's breathing was uneven, but the moment she appeared, the air seemed to be tinged with a hint of sweet gardenia fragrance.
"You're back?"
In the courtyard, William pushed his wheelchair, moving step by step in her direction.
His eyes were still covered with gauze, but fortunately, his senses were sharp, and he could judge direction and position fairly accurately.
"Yeah, how are Oscar and Nina?" Emily was breathing heavily. While trying to catch her breath, her worried gaze had already turned toward the house.
She had been taken away for so long today that the two children must have been worried sick.
"I calmed them down, but during the time you disappeared, they were very worried about you."
William lowered his voice. "What exactly happened today?"
Although his people had already investigated the situation, without Emily's direct answer, William felt it would be inappropriate to offer his protection.
Emily lowered her eyes, a flash of hatred quickly passing through them. "It's just my dad's mistress's daughter coming for revenge, that's all."
She spoke lightly, her tone calm and flat, but William still accurately caught that hidden disgust.
"So what are you planning to do now? You can't spend your whole life hiding from her." He asked seemingly casually, though his palms were nervously sweating.
Emily fell silent for a moment, not knowing how to answer.
She had finally found a job that could support her, and the hours were flexible enough to let her take good care of the two children.
If she lost this job because of Sophia's constant harassment, Emily really didn't want that.
She needed this job to support herself and the children.
William cleared his throat twice and proposed a solution. "Although I haven't recovered my memory yet, I found a bank card on myself."
As he spoke, he held out a black card.
Looking at this black card, Emily's pupils contracted.
Although she had already guessed that William's identity was not simple, someone who could casually pull out a black card must be either rich or powerful.
She instinctively took half a step back, her eyes full of wariness and distance.
"This... this is too valuable, I can't accept it." She bit her lower lip, her voice dry.
She thought of Daniel's disgusting face, and also of those people who tried to control her with money and power.
Now that she had finally found her own way out, she absolutely couldn't repeat the same mistakes, and couldn't depend entirely on others.
William seemed to have anticipated her refusal, showing no surprise on his face.
He gently turned his wheelchair. Although his gaze was blocked by gauze, Emily could feel his eyes seemed to penetrate the gauze, falling directly on her face with a kind of understanding that saw through everything.
"Don't misunderstand." He lowered his voice, his tone gentle, speaking in a soothing manner.
"I'm not trying to make some kind of deal with you. It's just that I've completely lost my memory and can't move around easily. In this condition, I really do need someone to take care of me, and you're the only person I know since I woke up." He paused, as if choosing his words carefully.
"This money isn't charity, it's your payment. As long as you're willing to take care of me until I recover, you can spend the money in this card however you want during that time." William added a time limit, which actually put Emily much more at ease.
She looked at her shadow on the ground, her mind racing.
"You need this money, and I need someone to take care of me. It's a win-win situation, why not?" Perhaps worried that Emily still wouldn't agree, William added another line.
Emily thought for a long while, then nodded firmly.
Just as William said, this was a win-win solution where they each got what they needed. Even if William recovered his memory later, he definitely wouldn't turn against her over this.
After all, she had put in the work, hadn't she?
"Okay." That single word settled Emily's life for the time being.
In the following period, Emily's focus shifted from just herself and the children to include William as well.
Of course, that was all for later.
At this moment, seeing William's thin clothing, she couldn't help but frown. "You're still a patient; you shouldn't stay outside too long."
Hearing Emily's serious tone, William nodded gently, a smile on his lips. "Then I'll listen to you."
Emily said nothing more and pushed his wheelchair back inside, then helped him onto the bed.
But when it came to changing clothes, Emily's face turned red, and she stood there hesitating.
When William was unconscious before, she had secretly undressed him, which was one thing.
But now that William was awake, asking her to undress him again made Emily very uncomfortable.
William seemed to understand what she was hesitating about. He coughed and said, "You were able to save me, which proves you know medicine too. They say doctors don't see gender; isn't that true for you?"
"Of course not." Provoked by him, Emily said stubbornly, her hands directly reaching for his pants.
But the moment their skin touched, William involuntarily shivered, and Emily's hands froze.
"It's okay, I can't see anything," William spoke as if he didn't care at all.
Hearing him say this, Emily felt she couldn't keep hesitating. She simply closed her eyes, undid his belt, and pulled the pants down his legs.
"Mommy, what are you doing?" Nina rubbed her eyes, her little mouth wide open, her tone full of undisguised surprise.
And Aiden stood behind Nina, gently holding her hand. "Mommy..."
With Nina's comment, everyone's attention focused on Emily's hands.
"It's not what you think." Although Emily was embarrassed, her face burning red, she still quickly pulled the blanket over William's legs.
"He can't move easily. I saw he was pitiful, so I just helped him take off his pants."
Nina tilted her little head slightly. "But you said only daddies and mommies can undress each other."
Emily hadn't expected that the words she once used to teach Nina self-protection would now come back like a boomerang, hitting her right in the heart, leaving her unable to argue.
"He's a patient; patients need to be taken care of." Her mind turned quickly, putting on a righteous appearance.
