Chapter 147
When the child was born, he truly had no breath at all - clearly a stillborn baby.
Emily was in terrible pain. Even in her unconscious state, she kept frowning from the pain.
Even the doctor said they needed to wake Emily up quickly so she could keep pushing and deliver the other two babies.
Otherwise, if they were stuck too long, they would die too.
The situation was so urgent at the time that Amelia didn't have time to think much. She just wanted to quickly deal with the child to spare Emily the heartbreak of finding out.
But Emily found out later anyway and was devastated for a while.
But the child had already been dealt with - what good would being sad do?
So Emily was just upset for a bit, then stopped thinking about it and focused on raising Oscar and Nina.
Now, the problem facing Emily was: even though the oldest child had died back then, how could he now appear by William's side?
She remembered William saying he had found the oldest child. Was it really that easy to just find him?
Or could there really be such a coincidence in this world?
Emily felt it was impossible.
Sure, people say there are no stories without coincidences, but this was too much of a coincidence - really hard to believe.
"I actually think Aiden might really be your son."
Amelia analyzed from the side. "There aren't that many coincidences in this world. You and William really do have a connection, so I think William didn't lie to you."
She turned around and looked at Emily seriously.
"If that's the case, then you need to go back with William. Don't you want to see your own child?"
"You told me before that the child lived here with you for a while, but I think with a different identity, the feeling would definitely be different too."
"Before, he called you Ms. Johnson, but this time if you acknowledge each other, he'll be calling you mom. Aren't you looking forward to that day?"
Every word Amelia said struck a chord in Emily's heart.
She lowered her head, a hint of struggle flashing in her eyes.
Put that way, she really did want to go see Aiden and tell him that his mother wasn't dead - it was her.
But when she thought about the Brown family's situation again, Emily hesitated.
"Mom, let's just forget it."
Emily shrugged her shoulders casually. "Aiden has been living well with William all along. William treats him very well, too. Let's just not acknowledge each other."
"That's not right."
Amelia's expression was very serious. "You're raising Oscar and Nina well, too, aren't you? But they still need a father's love. The same logic applies to Aiden."
"No matter how good William is to him, he's still just a father, not a mother. Who's going to make up for the mother's love he's missing? You're such a smart person - can't you figure that out?"
Of course, Emily could figure it out. She just couldn't take that step.
"Fine, I won't push you."
Amelia waved her hand. "Think these things through carefully first. You can make a decision after you've thought it through - no rush."
"Anyway, Oscar and Nina have already gone to the Brown Mansion. Give William a call tonight to check on the situation."
Emily was thinking the same thing and didn't say anything more.
On the other side, William had already arrived at the Brown Mansion with Oscar and Nina.
Raymond knew William was coming back today, but he didn't know William would be bringing back two children who looked very much like him.
After receiving the news, Raymond had been looking forward to it all day.
Clarence didn't understand why and asked Raymond what was going on, but Raymond wouldn't say - he practically treated him like he was invisible.
Just like now, Raymond was waiting in the living room when Clarence came by again.
"Dad, why are you still sitting here?"
Clarence found it strange.
Raymond always preferred staying in his study or strolling around the backyard, tending to the flowers and plants.
He always said the gardeners weren't careful enough and couldn't take meticulous care of those plants - it would be bad if they died.
But today, Raymond hadn't gone anywhere. He just sat there, staring at the door, as if waiting for something.
Clarence grabbed some nuts and sat down next to Raymond. Just as he was about to say more, Raymond glanced at him. "Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to go to the branch office?"
Clarence ate some nuts while speaking.
"Dad, I came to find you to talk about exactly that. I don't want to stay at the branch office anymore. I want to come back to our own company."
Seeing Raymond's expression wasn't great, but Clarence wasn't afraid. Instead, he spoke confidently.
"Dad, you've seen it too - Parker is always out of it. Ever since William died, they haven't bothered to manage the company. But the company can't be short-staffed, so I want to come back to our own company to help out. Wouldn't that be good?"
Clarence had wanted to bring this up for a while, but never had the chance.
He was afraid that saying too much would upset Raymond.
But now Clarence didn't want to wait anymore.
A few days ago, he had investigated Emily's background and learned that she'd been staying at the hospital these past days, though he didn't know what she was doing.
It looked like she was taking care of a patient.
Now that was interesting.
According to the information he'd gathered, Emily's father Brian was terrible - a complete jerk. Emily had been kicked out of the Johnson family long ago.
Now Emily was living with her two children and Amelia.
But these people had all been by Emily's side - none of them were hospitalized.
So, who was Emily taking care of at the hospital?
Thinking about William's serious injuries, and then about Emily and William's relationship, Clarence had a bad feeling.
Could Emily have saved William?
But when he sent people to the hospital to investigate, they couldn't find anything.
That hospital's surveillance was extremely tight - even when he got hackers to try breaking in, they failed.
Clarence had been anxious these past few days.
He couldn't understand how Emily, just an ordinary woman, had the ability to oppose him.
After thinking it over, Clarence gave up.
Rather than fixating on one woman, he might as well think about how to grab control of the company. Only that way could he be completely secure.
Even if William came back one day, when he found that the situation was beyond saving, what could he use to fight him?
That's why he came to talk to Raymond about this.
But what he didn't expect was that Raymond refused.
"Dad, what do you mean by this?"
Clarence was a bit angry, though he had to hold back his temper. But his voice had already turned cold and hard.
"Looking at the entire Brown family, besides me, you can't find anyone more suitable. Are you planning to leave the company to an outsider?"
"Of course not."
Raymond was calm and composed, a slight smile even playing at the corner of his mouth, still staring at the living room door.
"The person who can truly manage the company is about to arrive. I'm waiting for him."
