Chapter 146
William smiled faintly, "Yes, we're about to move into a big house. But Nina, from now on, you need to call me Dad. I'm your biological father."
"I know, but I don't want to call you that."
William's smile froze. "Why not?"
"Because I'm not used to it."
William's mouth twitched hard. What a reason - not used to it.
Fine, he couldn't push the kids too hard.
This was just the beginning. They were used to calling him Mr. Brown, so suddenly changing would indeed be hard to adjust to. That was understandable. He should give them some time.
"Okay, then keep calling me Mr. Brown."
William pinched Nina's soft little cheek, "I'll take you home to your real home now."
Of the two kids, Nina was his favorite.
Not that he didn't like Oscar, but Nina was sweeter and better at winning people over.
Nina was incredibly good at reading people. William had to admit it.
Many times when he was thinking something without saying it out loud, Nina could see right through him and say exactly what was on his mind. How could anyone not like a child like that?
In contrast, Oscar didn't bother with such things.
Every time Nina did this, he actually looked down on it.
Fundamentally, Oscar was more like William in personality.
William had been like that as a child too - hardly any smile all day long, his face colder than ice.
The car slowly drove away from the residential area.
Emily stood on the balcony, seeing everything clearly, feeling empty inside.
She didn't know if letting William take the two kids was right or wrong, but the children did need a father's love. She couldn't be so selfish as to keep them from going with William under the pretense of doing what was best for them.
Never mind, William - didn't the Brown family members also not know these two kids existed?
They really should go meet the family. Emily couldn't stop that.
There was a sound of a door opening behind her.
Emily turned around and saw Amelia walking in.
"Mom, why are you awake?" Emily quickly wiped the tears from her eyes. "Did we wake you?"
"No, I woke up naturally."
Amelia walked over and looked through the glass at the scene below. "Is that William's car?"
"That's right." Emily nodded, "He was just here and just left."
"Where did he go?"
"Home, of course."
Amelia nodded and turned to glance at the living room, "Where are Oscar and Nina? Usually they're pretty rowdy. Why is it so quiet now?"
"They left with William."
"What?"
Amelia's pupils contracted, "When did this happen? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Just now."
Emily explained, "William is their biological father. No matter what, I can't take away their chance to spend time with their biological father."
"William and I already agreed to let Oscar and Nina go back to the Brown Mansion with him for a few days. If they're willing, they'll stay at the Brown Mansion from now on."
"What about you?"
"What about me?"
Amelia was anxious, "Oscar and Nina both went with him, why didn't you go back together?"
"What does that have to do with me?"
"What do you mean, what does it have to do with you?"
Amelia was getting worked up, "Those two kids are your own flesh and blood. They both went back with William; shouldn't you, as their mother, go back even more? Aren't you afraid the kids will miss you?"
Emily was stumped.
It wasn't that she had nothing to say, but saying it wouldn't help.
Amelia supported her and William being together, and would love nothing more than for Emily to go back to the Brown Mansion, too.
But Emily didn't want to.
Who could really say what the Brown family situation was like?
Even if she went, she might not have a good life. Rather than gambling on an unknown future, she'd rather stick to her current simple life.
Besides, William was Oscar and Nina's biological father. Emily didn't believe he would treat the two kids badly.
"Mom, stop talking." Emily cut her off.
"William and I are from different worlds. I've told you this many times before. The two of us being together won't bring happiness."
"If it weren't for that accident back then, William and I would never have had any connection at all. Now, although I gave birth to his children, that was also unavoidable. It doesn't mean I have to be with him."
When Emily said this, she was very calm.
When she first discovered she was pregnant, her first reaction was to have an abortion.
Although these were three little lives, her life couldn't be ruined by three kids without a father.
But after getting to the hospital and learning she was carrying triplets, Emily hesitated.
Triplets - what were the odds of that, and she had hit it.
Even the doctor said that if possible, she should try to keep the babies.
Getting pregnant with triplets wasn't easy, and having an abortion would be even harder. If something went wrong and damaged her fundamentally, Emily would almost never be able to get pregnant again in the future.
In that case, she might as well give birth to the children and raise them.
Emily hesitated for a full two weeks before finally deciding to listen to the doctor.
During her pregnancy, she treated herself well and did everything she could to get proper nutrition, which is how she raised the three babies to be nice and chubby.
But precisely because she was carrying so many babies, the oldest child was stuck inside too long during the difficult birth and had no breath when born, and was declared dead by the doctor.
Now, William was saying Aiden was her own biological child. Emily didn't know if she could believe it.
She had just had this thought when Amelia immediately said, "Doesn't William have a child called Aiden? I think he looks a lot like William, and when Oscar and Nina stand next to him, they clearly look like real brothers. Could Aiden be..."
At this point, Amelia gasped, delighted.
"Emily, you're so lucky!"
"Lucky how?"
Emily was even more exasperated and rubbed her temples.
But Amelia was thrilled, "Does this mean the oldest child didn't die back then?"
"Mom, I should be the one asking you that."
Emily's expression couldn't have been more helpless.
After she gave birth back then, she passed out from the pain.
When she woke up again, Amelia told her that the first child she delivered had unfortunately died from being oxygen-deprived too long, and she had already taken care of it.
But now, how could this child appear by William's side?
Amelia's eyes flickered, "After you gave birth to that child, I was afraid you'd be heartbroken, so I wanted to deal with it quickly."
"I wasn't planning to tell you, just let you think you had two children, and the doctor made a wrong diagnosis. So I didn't tell the doctor either, afraid the doctor would let it slip, and you'd find out. I just threw the child outside."
Hearing this, Emily frowned hard, "Mom, how could you do such a thing?"
"I had no choice!" Amelia's eyes darted away, feeling extremely guilty.
