Chapter 132
Hearing this, William paused for a moment.
The time to part ways had finally come. He didn't know if he'd ever get the chance to see Emily again, or what things would be like if they met again.
Thinking about this made him feel melancholy, but he couldn't ignore what was happening at home either.
Before he knew it, William had fallen asleep again.
The doctor said he'd lost too much blood. Although they'd given him a transfusion, he still needed time to recover. He'd need good care during that period.
Emily kept every word the doctor said in mind.
Three days flew by, and William's injuries healed quickly.
On the day of his surgery, William had been so weak he could barely speak clearly. Several times, Emily had to lean in so close that her ear was almost touching his lips just to hear what he was saying.
But in just these three days, William's spirits had clearly improved a lot, and he could even get out of bed and walk around.
"The doctor says you can be discharged in two more days."
Emily came in from outside. "Congratulations, you're healing really well. Now I can finally relax."
"It's all thanks to you."
William smiled gratefully. "If you hadn't taken such good care of me, I wouldn't have recovered this fast."
Emily didn't respond, just smiled and sat down beside William.
"Oscar and Nina are coming over in a bit."
William paused, then heard Emily say, "My mom called me yesterday. I couldn't hide it anymore, so I told her about your injury. When the kids heard, they all insisted on coming to see you."
"You're always so good to them, bringing snacks every time you visit. They're always so happy about it. Now that they know you're hurt this badly, how could they not care?"
Emily felt pretty helpless talking about this.
When she left home a few days ago, she'd made it very clear to her family that she wouldn't be able to come back for several days.
But what she didn't expect was that Amelia wouldn't stop worrying. She kept calling every day, pestering Emily about where she'd gone and whether it had to do with William.
After asking so many times and making all kinds of wild guesses, Emily was afraid she'd worry herself sick, so she had to tell her the truth.
That really set her off. When Amelia heard something had happened to William, there was no way she could just sit still. She immediately wanted to come to the hospital to see him, but Emily stopped her.
William was doing fine at the hospital, and his enemies hadn't been able to find him. Everything was peaceful. What would be the point of her mom suddenly showing up like that?
What if someone really was watching from the shadows, and this gave away William's whereabouts? That would be counterproductive.
So Emily kept trying to talk Amelia out of coming, but she wouldn't listen and insisted on coming to see him anyway.
Oscar and Nina said the same thing. They'd been with Emily since birth and had almost never been apart. Even when separated, it was only for half a day at most.
This was the first time they hadn't seen Emily for several days in a row, so of course, they were worried about her. They all insisted on coming over.
Emily couldn't hold them back, so she had to agree.
"I'm sorry."
Emily awkwardly scratched her head. "I really tried my best to talk them out of it, but it didn't work."
"But I won't let my mom and the kids stay too long. A few minutes at most, then I'll make them leave right away. It definitely won't cause you any trouble."
"You don't need to go to all that trouble."
William shook his head.
"Nothing's happened for several days now, so it should be fine. If they want to come, let them. I haven't seen your mom and the two kids in a long time, either. I really miss them."
Emily was surprised. "You really mean that?"
"Of course."
William answered easily, his eyes very clear—clearly not lying.
"Okay then."
Emily nodded.
As long as William wasn't upset, that was good. She'd been worried her actions might cause him trouble.
Now that he'd said this, she felt relieved.
They'd just finished talking when there was a knock at the door. Amelia had arrived with the kids.
"Mr. Brown!"
As soon as Emily opened the door, Nina rushed in first. The floor was slippery, and he almost fell.
Emily quickly stepped forward to catch him, teasing with a smile, "You haven't seen William for just a few days. Is that really worth getting this excited about? Slow down, be careful not to fall."
Nina was much more sensible than he used to be. He got up from the floor, dusted off his hands, and ran straight to William.
He'd been pretty happy at first, but when he saw William wrapped in bandages, he just froze.
Oscar, following behind Emily, also froze at the sight.
He'd thought before that something serious must have happened to William, otherwise his mommy wouldn't have left in such a hurry.
But he never imagined William would be lying in bed this weak, unable to move. He must have been really uncomfortable.
Nina, standing beside him, actually started crying.
"What's wrong, Nina?"
Emily was startled and quickly held him in her arms. "Aren't you happy to see Mr. Brown? Why are you crying?"
Nina cried sadly.
Emily was at a loss and could only keep comforting him.
"Mommy, how did he get hurt so badly?"
Nina cried with hiccups, so small but frowning with worry. "Mommy, it must hurt a lot, doesn't it?"
He carefully held William's hand. "Mr. Brown, does it hurt? I'll blow on it for you."
Emily and William were both stunned, then laughed at the same time.
Who would have thought? Nina was crying because he was so worried about William.
William was quite touched.
Seeing that Nina couldn't stop crying, he struggled to sit up halfway and pulled Nina close, carefully wiping away his tears.
"Nina, sweetheart, don't cry. It doesn't hurt."
But Nina cried even harder. "You're lying! You've got so many bandages. How could it not hurt? You must feel terrible, right?"
He cried so pitifully, with tears streaming down his face.
William had never seen Nina like this before.
Of the two kids, Nina was the closest to him, always greeting him with a big smile. He was used to Nina's smiling face. This was the first time he'd ever seen him cry like this, and it really surprised him.
"Okay, Nina, don't bother William anymore."
Emily picked Nina up. "It did hurt a lot when he first got injured, but he's much better now."
"Look, doesn't his face look good? He's even smiling. That means it doesn't hurt at all. In just a few days, he'll be able to leave the hospital."
"Really?"
"Of course it's true. When have I ever lied to you?"
Nina cried very sadly. Oscar, standing beside him, frowned in disdain.
So pathetic. It's not like he was the one who got hurt. Was it really worth crying like this?
