Chapter 103
Watching this scene unfold, Emily suddenly had an ominous feeling.
She walked up to one of the officers and asked in a low voice, "Sir, hello, I'm Emily, the one who filed the report today. I'd like to know what's going on at the Johnson Villa. Have you found my mom?"
Meeting Emily's hopeful gaze, the officer shook his head with a somewhat helpless expression. "We haven't found any trace of your mother yet. We can only take it step by step. But based on the scene, the Johnsons haven't been gone long. In such a short time, they couldn't have gotten far. We've already sent people to investigate."
Getting this answer, Emily's heart sank deeper and deeper. Finally, she forced a smile and said politely, "Thank you for your hard work."
The officer could naturally see she was distracted, but since Brian hadn't been found yet, there wasn't much they could say.
"It's our job, Ms. Johnson. No need to be polite." After saying this, the officer got busy again.
Seeing no one was paying attention to her, and unable to sit still, Emily moved forward a bit without disturbing the scene.
As she got closer, she happened to hear two officers talking.
"There's blood on the ground. Looks like we need to prepare for the worst."
"Okay, we've already sent people to chase in all directions, and city surveillance is searching too."
Hearing their conversation, Emily looked ahead and indeed saw small bloodstains on the ground.
At this moment, she couldn't help but regret.
She shouldn't have listened to Brian and missed the best time to report this.
How was Amelia doing now?
Worry and guilt consumed Emily's thoughts.
Her hands hanging at her sides clenched into tight fists, her mind flashing with various emotions.
The officers were still investigating possible places Brian might be hiding, while another officer was sent to get information from Emily.
After all, she was the one who filed the report and had once been part of the Johnson family.
"Ms. Johnson, how much do you know about Brian?" The officer asked routinely, holding a notepad.
"I don't know much." Emily lowered her head, feeling somewhat annoyed.
If she had known it would come to this, she would have learned more about Brian's situation to avoid being so passive now.
"Does he have any friends or relatives? Or do you know where he usually goes?"
Realizing his question wasn't specific enough, the officer explained in more detail what he wanted to know.
"He had a friend from business, but I'm not sure if they're still in touch. As for places he usually goes..." Emily told them everything she knew.
"Any other information to add?" The officer looked at Emily, ready to close his notepad.
"No."
"Alright, if there are any updates, we'll keep you informed. Please keep your phone on."
The routine questioning was over. Seeing her looking so lost, the officer felt sympathetic and tried to comfort her. "Ms. Johnson, with today's technology, we'll do our best to find your mother as soon as possible. Right now, you need to stay calm and not break down."
Emily nodded and forced herself to pull it together. "I will, don't worry. If there's anything I need to cooperate with, I'll definitely help."
Emily's attitude was excellent, and the officer became more patient with her. After a few more words of comfort, he left.
The crew at the scene had gotten busy, and this time Emily was politely asked to stay outside the police line.
She watched the bustling crowd, bit her lip, and took out her phone again to call William.
"Hello, the number you have dialed is switched off..."
The mechanical female voice sounded again on the phone. At this moment, Emily completely gave up hope.
She gripped her phone tightly and laughed at herself.
Sure enough, she had thought too highly of herself.
Perhaps to William, she was just an insignificant person!
The several unanswered calls completely extinguished the little bit of affection Emily had for William.
She quietly watched the scene before her, silently praying that Amelia would be safe.
A sleepless night.
As dawn broke, the officers who had worked all night all had bloodshot eyes with obvious dark circles underneath.
The officer who had dealt with Emily yesterday stood before her again.
"Ms. Johnson, we've now preliminarily determined the direction Brian escaped in, but we can't reveal details yet. You can go home and wait for news."
"What about my mom? Is she safe now?"
Hearing the officer's words, Emily reacted somewhat intensely.
Facing her question, the officer shook his head, and Emily's heart immediately jumped.
"Could it be...?" Emily covered her mouth tightly, afraid that her worst fear would be confirmed.
"Ms. Johnson, we can't reveal the situation yet. Just go home and wait for news. If our information network is correct, your mother should be fine for now."
Emily didn't ask for more specific details because she knew the officer wouldn't say.
"Alright, I'll definitely cooperate with your work. I hope you can ensure my mom's safety. She's a very important family member to me, someone I can't lose."
Hearing Emily emphasize Amelia's importance, the officer nodded without saying more.
The group left in a crowd, leaving only two or three officers to maintain the scene.
Emily took a deep breath, bowed deeply to those who remained to express her thanks, then left.
She couldn't break down now, especially since she'd been gone all night.
She wondered if the kids were worried about her.
After staying up all night, Emily finally forced herself to pull it together and went home. As soon as she opened the door, she smelled a fragrant aroma coming from the kitchen.
"Mommy, you're finally back."
Before Emily could ask anything, Nina rushed over and hugged her legs, looking up with a little face full of worry.
"Mommy, are you okay? Is there any news about Grandma?" She kept asking questions from the moment Emily walked in.
But Emily could completely understand Nina's worry, because to her, they were all very important family members.
"There's no news about Grandma yet, but I think she'll be fine, right?"
Nina, seeing Emily looking somewhat fragile, immediately nodded hard. "Grandma will definitely be fine, Mommy, don't worry."
"Mm." Emily went along with her words, crouching down to hold Nina tightly in her arms.
Smelling the milky scent on Nina's body, Emily worked hard to steady her mind.
"You're back."
