Chapter 211 Kill Elizabeth
The mall's staff and security guards stood at the entrance, glaring at Emily with disdain.
"If you cause any more trouble here, we're calling the cops and you might never see daylight!"
"This is a high-end mall, people like you don't belong here."
Emily struggled to her feet, her face flushed with embarrassment. She shot them a cold, defiant look.
"What? Trying to humiliate me to please Elizabeth? She wouldn't give the time of day to snobs like you!"
Ignoring their angry expressions, she turned and walked away.
Her knee throbbed from where she had fallen. Emily bit her lip, enduring both the physical and emotional pain, limping forward.
People entering the mall cast curious glances her way. She lowered her head in shame, letting tears fall freely.
This incident had left her with nothing.
She was facing legal judgment and prison time. As for her position at Verdantia National Laboratory, she would stay as long as she could.
Emily clenched her teeth. With no hope for the future, she had nothing left to lose.
She knew exactly why she had ended up like this. The person responsible was the most despicable in the world!
If she ever saw Elizabeth again, she would have no hesitation in ending her life to vent her anger!
Emily walked on, her eyes filled with hatred, muttering to herself.
"Elizabeth, you deserve this. Even if you beg for mercy, it will be too late!"
Not long after leaving the mall, Elizabeth's phone rang. Seeing it was Leandro, she answered.
Leandro's voice was urgent and apologetic.
"I'm really sorry. I just found out what Emily did at the mall."
Elizabeth frowned. "I thought you had her locked up. How did she get out without you telling me?"
Leandro sounded embarrassed as he apologized.
"It was my oversight. I had to go back to Silvermist City for a few days. As soon as I left, someone pulled some strings and got Emily out of the detention center."
Emily was furious, leading to the scene that had just unfolded.
Elizabeth couldn't blame Leandro too much. After all, she had unexpectedly recovered the Skye family's long-lost necklace.
However, with Emily out, the previous case had likely been swept under the rug and closed. Pursuing responsibility would be difficult.
Moreover, Emily would probably hide somewhere, making it troublesome to catch her again.
Sensing Elizabeth's silence, Leandro reassured her.
"This was my mistake. Don't worry, I'll make it right. Emily will face legal consequences!"
Elizabeth didn't blame him. After chatting a bit more, she hung up.
Alice drove her home. Elizabeth sat in the car, occasionally checking the necklace in her hand.
This unexpected recovery would surely make her mom happy!
The case from three years ago was still under investigation. Although those responsible would face legal punishment, the court hadn't decided on the sentences yet.
And Tomas, being in a vegetative state, couldn't be held criminally responsible and might escape punishment.
Elizabeth knew her mom had been anxious, constantly researching online to find out what would happen to those people.
Elizabeth hoped the necklace would cheer her mom up.
As she reached the villa, Elizabeth excitedly got out of the car with the necklace, but she noticed an unexpected visitor at the gate.
It was Matthew.
Alice saw him and was about to greet him but noticed the tense atmosphere between him and Elizabeth. She quietly stepped back, giving them privacy.
Alice was curious about their relationship. She knew Elizabeth wasn't the type to cause trouble, so why were she and Matthew at odds?
Elizabeth put the necklace in her pocket and looked coldly at Matthew.
"If you have something to say, text me. There's no need to show up at my door."
"And don't tell my mom about us. I don't want her to worry."
Matthew had missed her. Despite Elizabeth's harsh words, his eyes were filled with longing.
He hesitated before speaking.
"Some things can't be explained over the phone. I wanted to see you in person."
Elizabeth frowned. "Does it make a difference? We only argue when we see each other, don't we?"
Matthew knew he was in the wrong and didn't argue. He gently took her hand.
"I know why you're angry. I didn't tell you before because I wasn't ready."
"I'm sorry for that. I came today to explain everything."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, her smile tinged with sarcasm. "What is it?"
She wasn't unreasonable and was willing to give Matthew a chance to explain. But if his answer didn't satisfy her, she wouldn't forgive him.
Matthew thought for a moment, then took out his phone and showed her a photo.
Worried her mom might see, Elizabeth pulled him aside to look at the phone.
It was a photo of a handsome young man, smiling brightly, wearing a black coat under autumn leaves.
The beautiful scene was captured in the photo.
Judging by the background, it was at least ten years ago in Solterra.
Elizabeth studied the man's features, feeling a strange familiarity. She looked up at Matthew, frowning.
"Who is he?"
