Chapter 237 Questioning Matthew
Chapter 237 Questioning Matthew
For Matthew, Bruce was undoubtedly his biggest rival, even more threatening than Raymond.
He still couldn't forget the confrontation with the National Security Bureau, where he almost broke up with Elizabeth.
Matthew harbored a lot of hostility towards Bruce. Just seeing his name made him jealous.
Elizabeth and Bruce had known each other for a long time, sharing an inseparable bond, which was what bothered Matthew the most.
Maybe he was a bit petty, but he couldn't stand any other men around her. So, as he watched Elizabeth answer the phone, he remained silent.
Elizabeth felt uneasy. Despite keeping her distance from Bruce, his first words made Matthew's face grim.
"Elizabeth! You didn't tell me about the big incident at the lab, and now you're in Silvermist City without a word? We used to be so close. You can't just distance yourself because of Matthew, can you?"
Elizabeth took a moment to calm down, but before she could respond, Matthew leaned in and spoke softly into her phone.
"She's with me, so she doesn't have time to talk to you."
Matthew did it on purpose. This wasn't the first time he had asserted his claim over her.
He had to. Too many men were interested in his girlfriend.
Bruce, on the other end, had been smiling, thinking he would finally see Elizabeth. But hearing Matthew's voice, his smile vanished.
He instantly recognized the voice as Matthew, the feared figure in Silvermist City.
As the heir to a top-tier family, no one dared to mess with Matthew, and Bruce was wary of his status.
With Matthew and Elizabeth together, Bruce had no chance.
Feeling his enthusiasm crushed, Bruce took a deep breath, unable to find the words. After a few seconds of silence, he hung up.
He tossed his phone aside, feeling miserable.
With Matthew around, there would be no peace. Elizabeth's side would likely have no place for him.
Thinking about it made Bruce even sadder, almost to the point of tears.
This unspoken affection ended so abruptly, leaving him unwilling to accept it.
Elizabeth, on the other end, looked at the disconnected call, feeling helpless.
She glanced at Matthew, wanting to say something but hesitating.
Matthew, drying his hair, casually spoke up.
"I'm very hostile towards the men around you. No one can take you away from me."
Elizabeth had no choice but to let it go.
Matthew went to dry his hair, and Elizabeth took a shower. Afterward, they spent a long time together in the apartment before Matthew finally left.
His assistant had been waiting downstairs for a while. The Moore family had been calling nonstop since they knew Matthew was back, even his mother, Claire Murphy, called to ask when he'd be home for lunch.
The assistant, overwhelmed, was relieved to see Matthew come down, looking like a savior.
Matthew, who had been a bit tired, now seemed refreshed, whistling as he came out, looking relaxed.
It was clear what had happened, especially with the faint marks on his neck and the light scent of a girl on him.
The assistant didn't dare ask, simply reporting the facts.
"Mrs. Moore is urging you to come home for lunch. The head of the Moore family also called to inquire."
The head of the family was Matthew's father, who lived separately from his mother, Claire.
After all, Francis, who wasn't Claire's biological child, also lived at The Moore Estate, so Claire didn't want to see him.
The Moore family situation was complicated. Matthew was closer to Claire, so he didn't hesitate to instruct the driver.
"Take me to my mom's place."
Half an hour later, they arrived at the small estate. Claire, recently out of the hospital, was enjoying the garden.
Seeing Matthew's car, she quickly got up to greet him.
"You're just getting back now. Don't tell me you went to The Moore Estate first."
Matthew smiled as he got out, taking gifts from the trunk, and gently smiled.
"Mom, don't accuse me. You dislike him, and I dislike him even more. I don't want to see him."
The father-son relationship had always been strained. Claire was used to it and didn't care much. She was all smiles receiving the gifts.
"You still remember to bring me gifts. Not bad. The coffee beans from Skyhaven City are famous. I'm in for a treat."
After the servants took the gifts away, Claire glanced at the marks on Matthew's neck, pursing her lips slightly.
Matthew noticed her look and spoke directly, "If you want to ask, just ask."
Claire didn't hold back, "I know you have a woman now. You're old enough, and I won't stop you."
"But what's going on with you and Nova? I just found out about your breakup! How could you forget how Ethan died?"
This matter weighed heavily on both Matthew and Claire. It was a life lost, a debt that couldn't be repaid. Claire hoped Matthew would be with Nova, marry her, and the Moore family would take care of her as a form of compensation.
Nova liked Matthew and was a considerate girl, which Claire approved of.
But the news of their breakup shocked Claire, prompting her to ask about it today.
Matthew didn't plan to hide anything. He knew Claire liked Nova.
So, as he helped Claire inside, he recounted everything that had happened recently.
From Nova's deceitful schemes to her relentless pursuit.
Claire, after hearing it all, was in disbelief.
"You're not lying to me, are you? Nova isn't like that to me. She's so pitiful and gentle. How could she do such things?"
"Tell me the truth. Are you making this up to push me away from Nova because you want to be with that girl from Skyhaven City? I'm telling you, it's not happening!"
Claire was firm.
"The Moore family won't accept that girl from Skyhaven City as your wife. She's not worthy."
