Chapter 252: The Will
Chapter 252: The Will
"Xavier, get your ass in here."
Larry leaned against the headboard. Despite still being on an IV drip, his authority remained intact.
Xavier pushed the door open, drenched in sweat, not daring to look up.
"Dad, you wanted to see me."
"Have you heard the rumors going around?" Larry didn't even lift his eyelids. "They're saying Brian isn't my son."
Xavier's body trembled. He forced out a dry laugh. "Dad, that's just gossip rags making stuff up. Don't believe it."
Larry grabbed the cup beside him and smashed it on the floor. "You still dare to hide things from me at this point! I may be old, but I'm not senile! Things don't just happen for no reason. If there wasn't some truth to it, who would dare make up something like this?"
"Talk! What the hell is going on!"
"Dad! Dad, please calm down!" Xavier rushed over to support him. "I was just afraid you'd be heartbroken if you found out. I never dared to tell you, especially since you've always favored Brian's family."
"Bastard!"
Larry shook with rage, grabbed a pillow, and threw it at Xavier's face. "Go! Right now! Get those two bastards, Brian and Neil, in here! And get a doctor! I want a paternity test! Immediately! Now!"
An hour later.
Brian and Neil stood trembling in the hospital room.
The doctor held a blood collection needle. The atmosphere was frozen solid.
"Dad, what are you doing? We're all grown men in our sixties and seventies. Why do a paternity test now? People will laugh at us." Brian forced a smile, cold sweat streaming down from his temples.
Neil's face was deathly pale, his eyes darting around. "Grandpa, is someone trying to drive a wedge between us? I'm your real grandson!"
"Shut up!"
Larry's gaze was sharp as a knife. "Whether you're my biological son or not, we'll know once we test! If you're afraid to test, it means you're guilty! Do it!"
Under Larry's glare, Brian and Neil had no choice but to extend their arms for blood draws.
......
The hours waiting for the results felt longer than a century to Larry.
He lay in bed, his mind filled with all the coldness he'd shown Noah over the years.
To support Neil, he'd suppressed Noah multiple times, turning a blind eye to Neil's reckless behavior.
And what came of it? This Neil, he'd favored his whole life, had run away without caring whether he lived or died!
Meanwhile, Noah, whom he'd seen as rebellious, had rushed into the fire and risked his life to save him!
What kind of justice was this?
This was karma!
"Mr. White, the results are in."
At dusk, the lawyer walked in carrying a sealed envelope, his expression grave.
Brian and Neil stood in the corner, legs trembling.
Larry reached out with shaking hands. "Give it to me."
He tore open the seal and pulled out the thin sheet of paper.
His eyes went straight to the last line.
[Biological paternity excluded]
Larry suddenly started laughing.
"Good, this is just great."
He threw the report hard at Brian's face. "This is my good son! This is my good grandson! Get out! All of you get out! Take your dirty blood and get out of the White family!"
Brian picked up the report, glanced at it, his eyes rolled back, and he passed out.
Neil knelt on the floor, crying out, "Grandpa! Grandpa, I was wrong! I'm a victim too! Grandpa, don't kick me out!"
"Throw him out!" Larry roared. "Never let them step foot in the White family again! Freeze all their cards! Take back all the properties and shares! Let them beg on the streets!"
Security guards rushed in and dragged out the wailing Neil and unconscious Brian like garbage.
The hospital room finally fell quiet.
Larry seemed to age ten years in an instant, slumping against the pillow, gasping for breath.
Xavier stood to the side, not daring to breathe.
"Xavier."
"Dad, I'm here."
Larry closed his eyes, two streams of murky tears sliding down.
"Go get my lawyer. I need to make a will."
......
The lawyer arrived, and the White family members all gathered. Phoebe pushed in a wheelchair with Noah sitting in it.
The wounds on his back hadn't healed yet. His posture was somewhat stiff, his face still pale.
"Grandpa," Noah called out, his voice revealing no emotion.
His feelings toward Larry were complicated—he couldn't tell if it was hate or something else.
He resented Larry's years of suppression and unfair treatment, but seeing Larry so weak now, his throat tightened.
"You're here, good that you're here."
Larry raised his trembling hand and pointed to a chair by the bed. "Push him closer, closer to me."
Phoebe wheeled the chair to the bedside.
Larry stared at Noah without blinking, as if seeing this grandson for the first time.
"Noah,"
"I've been blind my whole life. Those two bastards, I loved them my whole life. In the end, the only one with real White family blood who could pull me out of a burning building was you."
Noah pressed his lips together, his jawline taut as a wire, saying nothing.
"Mark, write this down."
Larry took a deep breath and swept his gaze over his roomful of children.
"My twenty-five percent stake in the White Group, The White Mansion, and all my bonds and overseas properties—everything goes to my grandson, Noah, and him alone!"
The lawyer Mark's pen flew across the page. This decision meant Noah would become the most powerful man in all of Port Linden.
"As for the others, they've gotten what they should get." Larry paused, his eyes darkening. "And set up a trust fund with my several billion dollars in bank deposits. If anyone dares to cause trouble, that money stops too!"
"Yes, I've noted everything." Mark nodded.
Having said all this, Larry seemed to shed a heavy burden, slumping against the pillow.
He extended his hand, his withered fingers moving in the air.
"Phoebe."
Phoebe froze for a moment, then quickly stepped forward. "Mr. White, I'm here."
Larry grabbed Phoebe's hand.
"Before, I was too foolish."
"You're a good girl. Noah is headstrong, has a bad temper, and tends to go too far." Larry gasped for breath while pulling Phoebe's hand over and placing it on Noah's. "From now on, you watch over him."
"Okay," Phoebe said softly, her eyes red.
When someone was close to death, those old grudges didn't seem so important anymore.
"Good, good."
A trace of a smile appeared on Larry's face. His gaze gradually lost focus as he looked at the ceiling, murmuring something.
"Noah, promise me, protect the White family, treat Phoebe well. Don't be like me, only regretting when you're old."
