Chapter 240: Do You Admit That You Are Not Pregnant Anymore?
"You can't move around easily. Let me get you some food." Phoebe sneered and stood up, putting all the escargot onto Vivian's plate.
Vivian normally didn't eat such greasy food. Smelling it, she covered her chest and couldn't help but gag.
"Since you used to be my friend, I'll give you one more friendly reminder." Phoebe sat back down, looking at her through the rising steam. "You'd better not throw up, or with those previous reports out there, people might think you're bullying me. That wouldn't be good for your reputation."
Vivian stared at her for a moment, gripping the wheelchair armrest tightly, and sighed softly. "Why bother making yourself sick just to copy my way of talking and doing things?"
"Really?" Phoebe acted surprised. "So you think your usual way of talking and doing things is annoying too?"
Vivian pressed her lips together tightly, staring at her expressionlessly, her whole body tense.
Phoebe was like a completely different person!
"Thanks for your kindness. The pasta and pizza taste pretty good." Phoebe's lips curved up as she smiled at her.
Vivian didn't respond, just stared straight at her. "You didn't ask me out today just to fight, did you?"
Phoebe picked up her knife and fork and started cutting her steak. "Of course not. I asked you out because we haven't seen each other in a while, and I wanted to see how you're doing."
"I feel guilty, so not well at all." Vivian sighed. "I haven't been feeling well lately. I need to go to the hospital soon. Do you mind if I leave early?"
Phoebe cut off a piece of steak, swallowed it, smiled, and said, "Delaying medical treatment versus your negative news - which do you think has worse consequences?"
"Both are serious." Vivian's expression wasn't great. "Hard to choose."
Phoebe said calmly, "What if you had to choose one?"
Vivian looked at her and said softly, "I already feel guilty toward you. Whatever you want, just say it directly. If I can do it, I'll definitely agree."
In negotiations, the worst thing is losing your composure. Whoever asks first basically loses the upper hand.
Usually, Phoebe would be the first to speak, but this time, it was Vivian.
"Foster Enterprises and the Bell Group collaborated on a project recently. The Bell Group still hasn't paid the final payment of 25 million dollars. As the Bell Group's CFO, you know about this, right?" Phoebe said.
Vivian acted surprised. "I really didn't know about this. Twenty-five million dollars is a lot to other people, but for Foster Enterprises and the Bell Group, it's just a drop in the bucket. I didn't need to pay special attention to it."
Foster Enterprises and the Bell Group were both large companies worth hundreds of billions of dollars. To some people who didn't understand business, 25 million dollars didn't mean much to them. The old Phoebe was one of those people who didn't understand.
By saying this, Vivian was clearly trying to take advantage of Phoebe's lack of knowledge.
Phoebe had been playing along with her act for a while now and didn't want to keep going. "Transfer the final payment to Foster Enterprises' account before midnight tonight, or I'll expose the methods the Bell Group used this time and say you did it to target me."
Seeing Vivian casually fiddling with her phone, she smiled. "As a friend, just a friendly reminder - don't think about recording this to expose me, or people might think you're framing me again and have an even worse impression of you."
What Phoebe could think of, Vivian naturally thought of too. She bit her lip. "You're overthinking it. I'm just checking the time."
She showed Phoebe her phone screen, then put the phone on the table.
"You don't need to show me. I trust you. You wouldn't stoop to such cheap tricks." Phoebe cut off a piece of the grilled steak, dipped it in some sauce - it tasted pretty good.
Vivian didn't say whether she agreed or not. Instead, she glanced at Phoebe's stomach and said thoughtfully, "I heard you're pregnant? But your stomach doesn't look like you're over two months pregnant?"
The knife and fork slipped from Phoebe's hands and fell to the floor.
She looked at Vivian with an ugly expression and bent down to pick up the utensils.
"The knife and fork are too dirty after falling on the floor," Vivian called over a waiter. "Could you bring a new set of utensils, please?"
Maybe because she was too flustered, sauce splattered onto Phoebe's light gray sweater, spreading into a stain.
She looked at Vivian with a livid expression, saying through gritted teeth, "What do you mean?"
The waiter came over and set down new utensils.
"I don't mean anything." Vivian blinked, a smile returning to her delicate face. "I just want to tell you - you don't push me, I won't push you. We go our separate ways from now on. Isn't that better?"
Phoebe's expression kept changing as she clenched her fists tightly, saying nothing.
"I haven't had much contact with Larry, but I know he's hot-tempered and hates being lied to. I heard when Noah lied to him about finishing his homework as a kid, he got punished so badly he ended up in the hospital." Vivian said with a worried expression.
Phoebe looked at Vivian, her eyelashes blinking several times rapidly, her expression becoming very unpleasant. "Are you threatening me?"
"Don't make it sound so harsh. I'm just giving you a taste of your own medicine." Vivian said slowly. "Phoebe, you and Noah are back together. Congratulations."
"But you can't just bully people everywhere just because Noah dotes on you. That's not fair to others, don't you think?"
Phoebe's light gray sweater had a low neckline that showed above her collarbone.
While talking to her, Vivian glanced at her neck a few times and noticed several fresh love bites.
If Phoebe was really over two months pregnant, this was exactly when she shouldn't be having sex, right?
Even if other couples might, given Noah's cautious nature, he definitely wouldn't sleep with Phoebe during early pregnancy.
Phoebe forced a smile. "I'm thinner than most people. At just over two months pregnant, it's not very obvious yet."
"Really?" Vivian asked back, looking at her with a half-smile.
Phoebe didn't avoid her gaze, but her eyes showed a hint of evasion. "Mr. Pierce went with me for one checkup, and Larry took me for another. Do you think I could fool them both right under their noses?"
Vivian shook her head. "Of course not."
Phoebe didn't have that kind of ability.
"It's already 1:30 PM. There are ten and a half hours until midnight. You can have the Bell Group prepare that final payment." Phoebe seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
"I just said you don't have that kind of ability. I didn't say I believe you're pregnant." Vivian smiled lightly. "Sometimes coincidences can help people do bad things, like lying."
Phoebe's expression changed dramatically. "What do you mean?"
Due to being overly agitated, Phoebe's voice even cracked at the end, clearly showing her panic.
"Like I said before, nothing special. I just hope we can stay out of each other's way from now on." Vivian said sincerely. "Phoebe, you're not suited to get involved in company affairs, just like Ryan. William was wise not to hand the company over to you two."
Phoebe clenched her fists tightly. "You spent nearly three years framing me before. Do you think if you tell Larry I'm not pregnant, he'll believe you?"
"Larry might not believe me, but I can persuade him to take you to the hospital for another checkup. Phoebe, do you think you can still hide it then?" Vivian said leisurely.
Phoebe swallowed, reached up to wipe the fine sweat from her temples, then casually wiped her hand on her clothes.
"You don't need to answer right away. We've just started eating. You can give me your answer after we finish." Vivian cut another piece of delicate little cake for Phoebe.
Phoebe frowned, not speaking for a long time, as if making a difficult choice.
Vivian smiled at her and forked a piece of fruit salad, eating it elegantly.
"Forget about whether you can convince Larry or not - even if you do, with Noah protecting me, what can he do?" Phoebe stood up, staring straight down at Vivian.
Vivian pulled out a napkin and gently wiped the corner of her mouth. "So you're admitting you're not pregnant?"
