Chapter 239: Meeting with Vivian

Chapter 239: Meeting with Vivian

In the restaurant, Phoebe and Vivian sat on opposite sides of the table, with a plate of pasta and a seafood pizza between them, along with several plates of fancy vegetable salad.

Vivian sat in her wheelchair, looking even thinner, with a kind of fragile beauty about her.

"I remember you used to love the pasta here." Vivian picked up her fork, twirled some pasta, and put it on Phoebe's plate.

Phoebe smiled but said nothing.

After a while, Vivian said bitterly, "Phoebe, I was young and foolish back then, and made a mistake on impulse. But over these years, my conscience has been torturing me. Now that everything's been exposed, the Bell Group's stock has plummeted several times, and our market value has shrunk by nearly twenty percent."

She looked up at Phoebe with a bitter smile, "I know your three years in prison weren't easy either, but now the man I love most despises me, the elders I respect are disappointed in me, and so many people online are criticizing me. I'd say we're even now, right? I even envy you a little, feel like you actually came out ahead."

"You think I came out ahead?" Phoebe's lips curved into a mocking smile.

Vivian said softly, "Just three years in prison, and you got Noah's love, the White family's help, and made your rival company's market value shrink by nearly twenty percent. Personally, I think that's a pretty good deal."

"So you think so too!" Phoebe's eyes lit up, saying cheerfully, "I think so too."

"Noah didn't like me before, but after you schemed against me, he fell for me and even agreed to marry me. Plus, you paid the price for it, so I wasn't bullied for nothing. When you think about it, I really did come out ahead. Vivian, thank you so much!"

This was completely different from what Vivian expected. Her smile froze instantly, and she couldn't speak for a moment.

"You can't move around easily, let me pour you some juice." Phoebe stood up, poured juice for both of them, then pushed a glass in front of Vivian. "Here's to you scheming against me and making my life so exciting."

Her voice wasn't loud, but they'd both been trending online recently, so quite a few people were paying attention to them.

Hearing what she said, a few young women deliberately said loudly,

"That's so shameless, scheming against someone and then wanting them to thank you for it. How shameless!"

"I hate people who play dirty tricks behind others' backs. Not only did she steal her best friend's boyfriend, but she also set her up and framed her. So despicable!"

Women tend to be even more upset than men about being betrayed by a best friend.

Vivian heard it clearly. Her smile froze instantly, and her face turned ugly.

"The Bell Group's market value has already shrunk by nearly twenty percent, and Noah chose to be with me, so I haven't really been hurt that badly."

"After all, Vivian used to be my friend. I don't want to see her suffer too much, so please stop talking about her." Phoebe said to the women with a helpless expression.

One of them made a disgusted face and said disappointedly, "I hate people like you who forgive others without any boundaries. You were treated so badly, but you still want to forgive her. You never learn."

"You say you weren't really hurt, but what about those three years in prison? I saw the reports - you have so many scars on your body. You must have suffered a lot there!"

Another woman angrily agreed, "Exactly! Don't let this bad woman fool you. Wake up! If she really felt she was wrong, she should volunteer to go to prison for three years and experience what you went through!"

Vivian kept her head down, her expression unclear.

Phoebe sighed softly with a hint of bitterness, "Forget it. She used to be my friend after all. I can't really ask that of her."

As soon as she finished speaking, Vivian pushed herself up from the wheelchair with both hands and knelt down with difficulty, looking sincere. "Really? If I go to prison for three years, you'll forgive me?"

Hearing this, the three women were stunned and looked at each other.

Vivian said seriously and bitterly, "Actually, I've said before that I wanted to go to prison to make up for my mistakes. It's just that my health isn't good, and my parents didn't really agree. If going to prison means you'll forgive me, I'll go right now!"

"Really?" A hint of mockery flashed in Phoebe's eyes. "But I can't just watch you go to prison."

Vivian bit her lip, "Whether I go or not, either way is wrong. I really don't know what to do."

"You used to be my friend after all. If I watch you go to prison, I'd seem too cold-hearted. Besides, I don't know if this is another one of your schemes. What if you pretend to have a relapse right after entering prison and then say I forced you to go? Then I'd have no way to explain myself." Phoebe said with a troubled expression.

The women had been somewhat swayed by Vivian's sincere attitude, but after hearing Phoebe say this, they looked at Vivian with contempt again.

That's right - who knows if this despicable Vivian is scheming against Phoebe again!

"Just get up, stop kneeling. If people misunderstand and think I'm bullying you, I'll feel really wronged." Phoebe walked forward, pretending to help her up, but when she got close to Vivian, she stepped back.

She asked the women for help, "I've been feeling weak all over since I got pregnant. Could you help me get her up?"

Now that she was pregnant, if Vivian really pushed her, that would be big trouble.

The women understood what Phoebe meant. Two of them immediately stepped forward and helped Vivian back into her chair.

Phoebe quickly thanked them.

"I already know I was wrong. Why do you have to humiliate me like this?" Vivian said with a bitter smile.

Phoebe looked guilty, "You've misunderstood. I didn't mean to humiliate you. I just didn't expect that what you did would make even strangers so angry."

Vivian's body stiffened.

"Vivian, since you know you were wrong, just work on fixing it. Otherwise, next time you scheme against someone and get caught, who knows if a cripple like you will be able to get away." Phoebe said with fake concern.

Vivian secretly glanced at Phoebe's legs a few times, then quickly returned to normal. "We're both the same, both pitiful people. Why hurt each other? Besides, Phoebe, I risked my life to crash into your car back then because I felt guilty and wanted to punish myself with physical pain."

"I see. So to satisfy your evil thoughts, you really paid quite a price. I'm almost moved." Phoebe blinked. "But I'm different from you. I'm not pitiful."

She patted her right leg, "You became a cripple and can never dance again, but my leg is about to be healed."

Vivian's body stiffened, and her hands on her knees unconsciously clenched. "Not necessarily."

"Not necessarily? Not necessarily what?" Phoebe's eyes held a hint of mockery. "Is it because your leg has already healed, so you're not pitiful anymore either?"

Vivian gave a bitter laugh, "I admit, after treatment, I can walk. But Phoebe, my leg will never be able to recover to normal."

"Really?" Phoebe said with fake regret. "Then you're really pitiful. You schemed against me and ended up like this, but instead pushed Noah to my side."

Vivian was so angry that her fists clenched tight, her knuckles turning white. She frowned, "Phoebe!"

"Angry now?" Phoebe raised an eyebrow. "I've known you for so many years, and this is the first time I've seen you angry. Do you usually not get angry, or do you just pretend nothing's wrong when you are?"

Vivian forced a smile, saying glumly, "You've misunderstood. I'm not angry, I just don't want to talk about that car accident three years ago. Every time you mention it, it hurts my heart a little more."

"Oh, I see." Phoebe looked like she had just realized something. "You used to be my friend after all, so let me give you some friendly advice - you should keep more heart medicine on hand from now on."

She smiled brightly, "If you die from guilt, everyone will probably say you got what you deserved, and you won't find peace even in hell."

"I've donated so much to charity. I'll go to heaven." Vivian's face stiffened, and she corrected her with a forced smile.
