Chapter 88 Kneel Down and Admit Mistake
"What's going on?" Scarlett asked anxiously.
Sarah had clearly been drinking. She looked completely drained, but seeing Scarlett perked her up a bit. She clenched her fists in anger.
"It's all because of that damn Alton! Fooling everyone, putting on this fake gentle act, but he's so petty!"
After listening to Sarah rant for a while, Scarlett finally figured out what happened.
Turns out, after Daniel took Scarlett away, Alton gave Sarah a hard time, wouldn't let her leave, and demanded she pay for damages.
Sarah wasn't the type to back down, and Alton had an even worse temper. The two got physical, went from fighting to a drinking contest, both got drunk, and Sarah ended up hurting Alton.
Now Alton had called the cops on Sarah for property damage and assault, and she was locked up.
"Scarlett, don't worry about me. If Alton's got the guts, he can lock me up for life! I'll spend tonight in that holding cell cursing him out."
Sarah told Scarlett not to get involved, but Scarlett felt terrible and guilty.
Tonight Sarah had gone with Scarlett, and it was because of Scarlett that she got into a fight with Alton. How could Scarlett just abandon Sarah?
Scarlett contacted a lawyer, but Alton's side had provided surveillance footage of Sarah barging into the winery with people and breaking things, plus Sarah had injured his face and delayed his filming work. He was firm about not settling.
He was from the Bridges family, and the police station, intimidated by the Bridges family's power and seeing that Sarah was in the wrong, wouldn't allow bail.
Scarlett called Alton, trying to apologize calmly.
"Mr. Bridges, tonight was my fault for embarrassing you. Please be the bigger person, I'm apologizing on Sarah's behalf and will compensate for the damages..."
Before Scarlett could finish, Alton cut her off.
"What gives you the right to apologize for her? Do you even know what she did?"
"What did she do?"
Scarlett was confused. From Alton's tone, it sounded like Sarah had done something unspeakable to him.
"She..."
Alton was furious but couldn't bring himself to say it.
He thought about how tonight he and Sarah had been drinking, both got drunk, and somehow ended up in bed together, almost having sex.
Not only did Sarah take advantage of him, but at the crucial moment, she went crazy for some reason and kicked him out of bed.
He fell and hit his head hard, and before he could react, Sarah jumped down and pinned him to the bed, then accused him of trying to assault her, and without saying another word, beat him up.
His first kiss and his virginity were almost gone, and he got beaten up on top of it.
He'd never been so humiliated in his life!
Alton felt like spitting blood. He said coldly, "Unless that woman Sarah gets on her knees and apologizes to me, forget about any settlement!"
Alton pulled at his lip wound and couldn't help but gasp, losing some of his momentum.
His face darkened, and he hung up directly.
When Scarlett called back, Alton had already turned off his phone.
Scarlett couldn't possibly make Sarah kneel and beg for mercy. With Sarah's personality, even if you broke her legs, she'd never kneel.
Scarlett had no choice but to call Daniel, but his phone was also unreachable. Scarlett figured that after she left the hotel, Daniel must have gone to see Alice, so she took a cab to The Brown Mansion.
And Daniel had indeed gone to The Brown Mansion.
When he arrived, Alice was still making a scene.
She'd had a tooth knocked out, her face hurt, her tooth hurt—how could she swallow this humiliation?
When Daniel arrived, Alice was crying in Thora's arms.
Thora was heartbroken, holding an ice pack to her face, angrily questioning Daniel.
"Daniel, Alice went out perfectly fine but got beaten up like this by Scarlett! You need to give us an explanation today!"
Alice looked at Daniel with red, swollen eyes, looking pitiful.
Daniel's expression was blank. "What kind of explanation do you want?"
Thora said angrily, "Call Scarlett here right now, make her apologize to Alice, and let Alice slap her back!"
A flash of coldness passed through Daniel's eyes. He let out a low, mocking laugh and looked down at Thora. "She's my wife. In this Shadow City, no one dares to touch Daniel's wife!"
His look practically screamed "dream on."
Thora choked on her words. "You!"
Alice's tears flowed even harder. She endured the pain and spoke up, crying out.
"Right in front of you, Scarlett dared to force-feed me medicine. Daniel blindly protects her. One day Scarlett will dare to force-feed me abortion pills directly. I'm really scared..."
Alice stood up shakily. "Rather than wait for Scarlett to make a move and suffer, I might as well go get rid of the baby myself now. At least I won't suffer as much. Mom, let's go to the hospital."
Thora supported Alice and nodded. "Okay, let's go to the hospital!"
Reid also looked furious. "The child is suffering like this before it's even born. Why bother having it? I'll contact an OB-GYN right away."
Reid took out his phone to make a call, Thora called for the car.
Alice was being helped out. She didn't believe Daniel could ignore the child in her belly.
However, Daniel stood there with a cold expression, showing no sign of trying to stop them.
The three members of the Brown family didn't know what to do, all looking upset.
As they walked past Daniel, he still didn't say anything, standing tall and upright, watching coldly without moving an inch.
Alice ran out of options. Her legs gave way and she collapsed on the floor.
"Alice!" Thora cried out.
Daniel frowned, seeing Alice lying on the ground as if she'd really fainted.
He frowned and told Tom to call a doctor, then stepped forward to pick up Alice and carry her back to her room.
He placed Alice on the bed and was about to straighten up.
But Alice grabbed the corner of his suit jacket. Daniel's movement stopped, and he said in a low voice, "Let go."
Alice opened her eyes, tears streaming down.
"Daniel, you can't be so heartless to me. You promised to take care of and protect the baby in my belly."
Daniel's eyes showed no emotion. "I also told you not to provoke Scarlett."
"I didn't..."
Before Alice could finish, Daniel coldly interrupted.
"The hotel surveillance and Scarlett's water glass—you cleaned those up well. But to get sleeping pills in such a short time, you could only buy them from a pharmacy near the hotel. It's not hard to trace."
Alice's face immediately turned upset. So Daniel had already investigated everything.
Meeting the coldness in Daniel's eyes, Alice's hand holding his jacket loosened. "I, I just..."
Daniel straightened up, his brows showing impatience, a sharp light flashing in his eyes as he interrupted Alice.
"I don't want to hear explanations, and I don't like being threatened. The child in your belly is not a tool for you to threaten me. You'd better remember how that slap felt today. Understand?"
Alice felt cold all over, biting her lip hard, instinctively nodding.
Daniel looked away and walked straight out.
Thora and Reid were still waiting at the door. Seeing Daniel just leave like that, they wanted to stop him but were held back by Alice.
Daniel left The Brown Mansion, got in his car, rubbed his temples, and told the driver to go.
When Scarlett arrived, she happened to see Daniel's familiar car leaving The Brown Mansion complex.
Daniel had indeed come to see Alice. Good thing she found him.
Scarlett quickly told the taxi to follow, but she didn't expect Daniel to return to Regal Estate.
Had he been living here this whole time?
But this was their marital home. He used to refuse to come back, so now that she wasn't here anymore, he moved back in? Or...
Standing outside Regal Estate again, Scarlett felt complicated inside.
Especially thinking about how just over an hour ago in the hotel room, she'd given Daniel the cold shoulder, wanting nothing more than to never see him again.
But now, here she was at his door asking for help. Scarlett's feelings were all mixed up.
She hesitated at the door for a long time, but thinking of Sarah locked up, she gathered her courage, gritted her teeth, and went in.
