Chapter 87: Won't Keep a Woman Who Doesn't Have Me in Her Heart
Just when Scarlett thought she was trapped with no escape, about to be pinned down by Daniel and forced into sex on the couch, everything went dark.
Daniel had tossed his shirt over her head. By the time Scarlett pulled it off, Daniel was already at the bathroom door, saying coldly.
"Think about what you're going to tell me!"
He went into the bathroom, and the sound of running water started.
Scarlett jumped up and rushed to the door, but Daniel had done something to it. No matter how much she fiddled with it, she couldn't get it open.
When Daniel came out of the bathroom in a bathrobe, Scarlett was sitting listlessly on the couch, having given up struggling.
Daniel walked over, drying his wet hair.
His bathrobe was loosely tied, and after his shower, Daniel seemed even more dangerous and aggressive.
Scarlett didn't dare look too much. She kept her head down and shifted to the side. Just as she settled in, something landed on her lap.
It was a hair dryer.
Scarlett turned to look at Daniel. He had already leaned back lazily against the couch and ordered.
"Come dry my hair."
"Can't you do it yourself?"
He could be so lazy sometimes.
He'd spend a full hour working out every single day without fail, but after a shower, he was always too lazy to dry his hair. He'd often just give it a rough towel-dry and call it done.
Before, Scarlett always worried he'd catch a cold or get headaches when he got older. When she was eight or nine, she'd follow him around with the hair dryer, constantly nagging him to dry his hair.
He found it annoying and wouldn't cooperate, so she'd push him down on the couch and do it herself.
Sometimes, when he fell asleep, she'd kneel by the bed and dry his hair. The sound of the hair dryer wouldn't wake him up—it actually made him sleep more soundly.
The sudden memory stirred mixed feelings in Scarlett's heart.
She sat still. Daniel opened his eyes and looked at her.
"You got it wet, won't you take responsibility?"
His words could easily be misunderstood. Scarlett was speechless.
Daniel added slowly, "Or would you rather serve me in bed?"
Scarlett fell silent.
Fine, drying hair was much better than sex.
Scarlett stood up, plugged in the hair dryer, walked behind the couch, and started drying his hair.
Warm air blew through his hair. Scarlett reached up to run her fingers through his wet hair, but her fingertips paused.
Cold.
He'd showered for a long time, and he'd used cold water.
She frowned instinctively. But she wasn't a clueless little girl anymore—she understood why he'd taken a cold shower.
All that talk about sex was clearly just to scare her.
He really hadn't planned to hurt or force her.
She couldn't tell if she felt relieved or tense. Her heart felt sour and tight.
At that moment, Scarlett almost wished Daniel would be harder on her.
"Have you figured out what to tell me?"
Daniel suddenly spoke. Scarlett snapped back to attention, running her fingers through his hair and drying it carefully.
"What do I need to tell you?"
Daniel suddenly opened his eyes. Scarlett looked down, and their eyes met. His deep eyes seemed soaked through with cold water—clear, sharp, and penetrating.
Scarlett's breath caught. She looked away.
"You're not hiding anything from me?" Daniel laughed coldly.
Scarlett's lashes trembled. "What do you mean?"
She didn't know which thing Daniel was referring to. There seemed to be a lot she was hiding from him.
Seeing her still being stubborn, Daniel scoffed. "At Vivienne's, were you really just doing translation? Was it just a part-time job being ruined? Was that worth going to such lengths to force those sleeping pills back down Alice's throat?"
Scarlett's heart jumped. So he'd noticed something was off.
Scarlett realized Daniel probably knew about her dance audition.
No wonder he let her slap Alice. If he didn't know Alice had really done something terrible, ruining someone's future, he probably would have protected Alice all the way.
Scarlett continued drying his hair. "You already know."
Daniel stared at her. "When did you plan to go abroad?"
Scarlett's grip on the hair dryer tightened. "When I asked for the divorce."
"You've been hiding it from me this whole time because you were afraid I'd stop you? You're really something!"
Daniel's eyes were dark and gloomy, layer upon layer like a forest that light couldn't reach.
So she'd made her decision long ago.
So when she first asked for divorce, she'd already left herself no way back.
His refusal and attempts to win her back during this time were just a joke.
He really didn't know that the once-adorable Scarlett could be so decisive and ruthless when cutting ties.
Scarlett finished drying his hair and turned off the hair dryer. As she turned to put it on the side table, Daniel suddenly grabbed her wrist.
A loud crash.
The hair dryer fell to the floor.
Scarlett tumbled over. Daniel leaned forward and pulled her over the high back of the couch, pressing her onto himself.
Her chest heaved, her heart still racing. "Daniel, what are you doing?"
Daniel's bathrobe hung open at the chest. His whole body was still cold. Scarlett felt like she was lying on an ice sculpture and shivered slightly.
Daniel pressed her lower back, staring at Scarlett up close.
"When are you planning to leave?"
"In a month."
Scarlett bit her lip lightly, looking at him with some worry.
"You promised that as long as I paid back what I owed the Wilson family, you'd divorce me and let me go. You can't go back on your word!"
Daniel laughed coldly, then suddenly grabbed Scarlett's chin and turned her face left and right.
His movements were rough. Scarlett's stiff neck felt like it might cramp from being twisted.
"Let go, what are you doing?"
"I'm checking to see if you have no shame or if you think you're that beautiful!"
He let go. "Scarlett, I won't keep trying to win back a woman who's desperate to leave me and doesn't have me in her heart!"
Scarlett pressed her lips together and twisted her waist.
"Then let me go."
But Daniel's large hand on her waist didn't move. He stared at her without blinking.
"Are you hiding something else from me?"
He felt something else was off. Was Scarlett's aggressive behavior tonight really just because Alice ruined her audition?
Scarlett's heart tightened. She was afraid that if he kept questioning her, she wouldn't be able to hide the pregnancy.
Fortunately, Daniel's phone rang urgently. It was Tom calling.
Scarlett quickly handed him the phone. "Answer it."
Daniel let go of Scarlett. She quickly sat up. Daniel answered the call, and Tom's voice came through.
"Mr. Wilson, I brought Ms. Brown back, but she won't stop making a scene. You should probably come take a look."
Alice's crying came through at just the right moment. Daniel let go.
This was really the first time Scarlett was grateful to Alice for getting her out of a tight spot.
After leaving the hotel, Scarlett tried to contact Sarah, but Sarah's phone wouldn't go through.
Scarlett went back to the apartment she rented with Sarah. Sarah wasn't there either. Just as Scarlett was getting worried, she got a call from the police station.
Scarlett rushed to the station and saw Sarah being held there.
