Chapter 82 Sorry, I Didn't Protect You
Daniel had indeed seen Scarlett, and something had clearly happened to her.
Scarlett was wearing only a thin dance outfit, barefoot, clutching just her phone as she rushed out in a panic, her face looking terrible.
She was crouched there hugging her knees, like a lost wild goose with nowhere to go, abandoned and confused.
Thinking about what Anna said about her leaving without reason, and seeing her current disheveled state, it wasn't hard to guess what had happened.
So Scarlett wasn't here as a translator after all?
"Mr. Wilson, should I go ask Mrs. Wilson what happened?"
Seeing Daniel wasn't moving, Tom carefully spoke up.
Daniel's hand gripped the door handle, his expression heavy, saying nothing.
Just when Tom thought Daniel was about to lose control and pull the door open to get out, a black limited-edition car stopped in front of Scarlett.
Ramon's tall figure stepped out from the driver's seat and hurried toward Scarlett.
"Scarlett? Why are you crouching here alone?"
Scarlett looked up and saw Ramon.
"Ramon?"
Without asking much, Ramon took off his coat and draped it over Scarlett, helping her stand up.
Scarlett wrapped herself in the coat, hope rekindling.
"I messed up Ms. Mae's interview. Ramon, can you take me to the airport?"
Ramon immediately nodded, "Get in the car."
Ramon and Scarlett got in the car, which then turned around and sped away.
"Drive." Daniel coldly withdrew his gaze and ordered.
Tom was a bit anxious, "Should I chase after them and force that car to stop, and bring Mrs. Wilson back?"
Daniel chuckled and glanced at the eager Tom, "You think that would be exciting?"
Tom fell silent.
Watching Daniel's indifferent manner as if nothing concerned him, Tom thought of a saying.
When the person involved isn't worried, what's the point of him, an outsider, being anxious?
"Drive!" Daniel ordered again, his tone unchanged.
Tom drove away, but felt uneasy inside.
Daniel's recent reactions to Scarlett's matters had been too normal.
But the calmer and more normal he was, the more it gave people an abnormal, oppressive feeling.
Like a deep-sea storm—the more it's suppressed, the more violent the eruption, making one feel something big was about to happen.
Meanwhile, in the car.
"Don't worry yet, maybe Vivienne's group is still at the airport, you might still make it." Ramon comforted Scarlett.
He was the one who helped Scarlett get this opportunity, so he clearly knew how much she valued this chance.
"What exactly happened?"
"Someone must have snuck into my room and tampered with the water in my thermos. After I drank it, I completely passed out. When I woke up, I'd missed everything!"
Scarlett was certain she hadn't just fallen asleep from exhaustion.
Because even now, her head still felt foggy.
"Do you know who it was?" A cold glint flashed in Ramon's eyes.
Scarlett's expression turned cold, "I usually only drink water I bring myself before going on stage. That person put the drug in my thermos, clearly very aware of this habit of mine. I think I know who she is. I was careless."
When she saw Alice, she should have been more alert, but she never imagined Alice would dare to have someone sneak into her room and do such a thing. Scarlett hadn't expected such audacity.
Ramon was a bit worried, "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere else? Though this opportunity is rare, if you really miss it, it's fine—there will be other chances. Let's go to the hospital first!"
He was about to change direction, but Scarlett quickly shook her head, "I don't feel anything else, go to the airport! Maybe I can still see Ms. Mae. Even if she cancels my interview, I need to explain clearly."
Going to the hospital now wouldn't help anyway.
Seeing her insistence, Ramon sighed and increased his speed.
Scarlett opened the car's mini fridge, grabbed a bottle of water and started gulping it down.
She looked out the window, tears flowing uncontrollably, her whole body trembling slightly, her heart full of worry.
She needed to drink more water to boost her metabolism. She was afraid the drug would affect the baby in her belly.
I'm sorry, baby, I didn't protect you well enough.
"Stop drinking, the water's too cold!"
Ramon noticed something was wrong—she finished one bottle and was opening another. He leaned over and took the water away.
Scarlett drank too quickly and started coughing.
"My body feels weak, the drug probably hasn't completely worn off. I need to speed up my metabolism. If we really catch up with Vivienne later, even though the interview chances are slim, I need to be prepared, right?"
Scarlett didn't want to tell Ramon about the pregnancy, so she could only say this.
Ramon had no choice with Scarlett. He stopped the car by the roadside, got out, and brought a case of room-temperature water from the trunk, placing it at Scarlett's feet.
However, when Scarlett arrived at the airport, Vivienne's flight had already taken off.
"Let's go back and email Anna several times to explain, maybe there's still a chance..."
Ramon comforted Scarlett.
The two turned around, but Scarlett looked up in surprise to see Vivienne and Anna's group walking out from a VIP lounge.
Scarlett was overjoyed, "Ms. Mae, you haven't left yet! This is wonderful."
Scarlett ran toward them but was blocked by security guards several steps away.
Vivienne's attitude was cold. She must have been very angry and showed no intention of stopping to hear Scarlett's explanation.
Scarlett stepped back two steps, bowed solemnly in apology, and said loudly.
"Ms. Mae, I'm sorry. I truly love dancing and sincerely want to learn by your side. I'm very sorry for wasting your time and for making your Shadow City trip unpleasant because of me, I..."
Scarlett's attitude was very sincere, not just making excuses or shifting blame.
Vivienne looked at her with new respect and turned to approach her.
"Won't you explain?"
"What?"
"I'll give you one minute." Vivienne raised an eyebrow.
Scarlett's heart raced as she quickly explained what had happened.
Vivienne looked at her barefoot, pale, disheveled appearance and didn't doubt her words.
"I can give you five minutes. Are you ready?"
Scarlett was stunned again. It was only when Anna pushed her that Scarlett came to her senses and nodded repeatedly, feeling honored.
"I'm ready, I can do this!"
Vivienne nodded, indicating for her entourage to wait outside, and turned back to the VIP lounge.
Ramon quickly stepped forward, taking the coat from Scarlett's shoulders, his eyes smiling.
"Good luck."
Scarlett took a deep breath, turned, and followed inside.
Ramon waited anxiously outside. Vivienne said she'd only give Scarlett five minutes, but nearly twenty minutes passed and neither had come out.
But this should be a good sign.
When Ramon checked his watch for the umpteenth time, the door opened and Scarlett walked out.
Scarlett's forehead was covered in fine beads of sweat, her hair damp, but her eyes shone bright as stars.
Meeting Ramon's gaze, Scarlett smiled slightly.
"Ramon, thank you. I made it."
Ramon smiled too, "I knew you would. Congratulations, Scarlett. May you shine like a star on the world stage."
After they left, Anna walked inside.
"Vivienne, you agreed to take Scarlett? Is it because of Mr. Wilson?"
Vivienne put on her coat, "No, she's a dancer destined to be seen by the whole world. She deserves it. Her dancing convinced me."
Anna raised an eyebrow.
"Seems like you really appreciate Scarlett, congratulations. But we should board now. The private jet Mr. Wilson arranged is waiting."
Vivienne nodded and walked out with Anna.
Anna smiled and added, "That Mr. Wilson is also quite strange, spending so much money to help Scarlett, yet not wanting us to mention it to her."
Vivienne shrugged and shook her head with a smile, "Scarlett also asked me to keep something from Mr. Wilson. Human emotions are always hard to understand."
