Chapter 81 Such Enthusiasm
It was Alice who answered him.
"Daniel, Scarlett suddenly left."
Daniel assumed Scarlett had left without even doing the translation work because she didn't want to see him.
Daniel's face turned cold as he said to Vivienne, "Do you need a translator? I can fill in temporarily."
Vivienne smiled at Daniel. "Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Wilson, but that won't be necessary. Just let Ms. Brown come in now. I want to hear her play."
There was still a hint of displeasure in Vivienne's expression. She had actually thought highly of Scarlett.
Vivienne had watched Scarlett's stage videos several times.
Vivienne felt that Scarlett was very talented, and her dancing had soul and its own unique style - she was rare talent worth developing.
After meeting Scarlett, her way of interacting with people, her manners and conversation, and her composed temperament also made Vivienne feel very positive about her. She was comfortable to be around.
But Vivienne never expected that Scarlett would be so disappointing.
Vivienne turned and entered the room. Anna shrugged apologetically at Daniel and signaled for Alice to follow.
"Vivienne has to go to the exchange meeting soon. You only have ten minutes."
Alice nodded. She bent down to pick up her violin case and looked at Daniel.
She wanted Daniel's approval and encouragement. It would be even better if Daniel could accompany her inside.
That Vivienne person was just a dancer, yet she had such an arrogant attitude toward Alice. If Daniel were there, maybe she would be more pleasant to Alice out of respect for him.
However, Daniel's deep gaze fell into empty space, not looking at Alice at all.
Alice bit her lip and had to walk in by herself with her head down.
After the door closed, Tom carefully spoke up.
"Mr. Wilson, should I go look for Mrs. Wilson? Mrs. Wilson isn't the type to be absent without reason or act irresponsibly. If she really had to leave, she would definitely explain clearly."
Scarlett had worked as a clerk in the CEO's office for over a year, making her Tom's subordinate.
Even as a junior clerk, Scarlett was dedicated and had never made a mistake. She was a serious and reliable person.
Daniel stood with one hand in his pocket, turning to look down at Tom.
"You know her well?"
Tom inexplicably felt a chill run through him and quickly laughed awkwardly.
"Of course I don't know her as well as you do, Mr. Wilson. I was just asking casually."
Daniel said coldly, "I've said before, don't mention anything about her to me in the future. Do I need to repeat myself?"
Tom's scalp tingled. "Sorry."
Daniel had already strode away. Tom wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and hurried to follow.
Vivienne had given Alice ten minutes, but Alice came out after only five minutes.
Alice didn't look too happy. Laura was waiting for her and rushed forward anxiously, taking the violin case.
"How did it go? Did Vivienne agree?"
Alice shook her head and said resentfully, "She actually said directly that I didn't meet her requirements. I hadn't even finished one piece when she interrupted me and asked me to leave!"
Alice was furious. "She's just a dancer! Since she thinks she's so great and the audience comes to watch her and the dancing, what does it matter how good the accompaniment is? Good enough should be fine! I think she's just a menopausal old woman being deliberately picky. She..."
Laura was afraid someone would hear, especially since they were right in front of Vivienne's door. She quickly covered Alice's mouth.
"Stop talking. Let's go back to the room first."
The two returned to their room. Alice sat on the sofa and irritably kicked off her shoes.
She hadn't expected that even with Daniel's connections, Vivienne would still be so merciless.
She had thought that with the connections in place, today would just be a formality.
Thinking about how favorably Vivienne had viewed Scarlett earlier, and then remembering Vivienne's pained expression while she was playing, Alice grabbed her cigarette pack and lit one in frustration.
But just as Alice took one drag, Laura snatched the cigarette away, crushed it out, and waved her hand, saying.
"Mr. Wilson cares so much about the baby in your belly. Smoking leaves a smell - show some restraint."
Alice looked irritated and slapped her belly hard.
"So annoying!"
"Come on, even if you didn't make it, Scarlett didn't get the opportunity either. It's not a total loss."
Laura consoled her, and Alice's expression finally relaxed.
That's right - Scarlett would wake up when everything was already over. Who knows if she'd cry from frustration.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"Is Mr. Wilson coming to see you?"
Alice was immediately thrilled. She stood up from the sofa and was about to run to open the door, but then remembered she had just smoked and paused.
"Laura, keep him there. I'll be right there."
She ran to the bathroom to spray perfume, reapplied her lipstick, unbuttoned two buttons at her chest, and then ran to the entrance.
But when she saw the man who came in, the smile on her face froze slightly.
"Why is it you?"
"Who else would it be? Alice, I just helped you out. How are you going to thank me?"
The visitor stepped forward and put his arm around Alice's waist, his fingers pulling open her loose collar.
"What's this? So enthusiastic - did you know I was coming?"
Alice dealt with him while giving Laura a look, telling her to go guard the door.
When Scarlett woke up, it was already dark outside.
Her head was still foggy. She lifted herself from the sofa, not knowing where she was for a long time.
Her phone vibrated on the table. Scarlett instinctively answered it.
"Scarlett, I've got the celebration dinner all ready for you. Where are you? Why aren't you back yet? Did you have such a great conversation with Ms. Mae that you can't bear to leave?"
Sarah's cheerful voice rang out. Scarlett jolted awake, her memory flooding back, and she jumped to her feet.
"Sarah, I can't talk now. I'll contact you later."
Scarlett quickly hung up and looked at the time.
She had been asleep for almost six hours. Scarlett knocked her head and rushed out of the room, running to Vivienne's room door and knocking frantically.
Naturally, there was no response from inside. A cleaning staff member happened to be pushing a cleaning cart by. Scarlett asked, and the staff member said.
"The foreigners here? They checked out an hour ago and left the hotel with their team."
Scarlett's breathing stopped. She saw several missed calls from Anna on her phone.
Scarlett ran toward the elevator while calling Anna. No one answered.
It wasn't until Scarlett's elevator was almost at the first floor that Anna picked up her fourth call.
Scarlett's voice was urgent and pleading. "Anna, I'm sorry. This afternoon I..."
Anna didn't want to hear Scarlett's explanation and cut her off coldly.
"Scarlett, Ms. Mae hates people who aren't punctual and don't take dance seriously. Your attitude has already disappointed Ms. Mae. We're about to board our flight. Don't call again."
Anna hung up. Scarlett didn't give up and kept calling while running out of the hotel.
However, Anna had clearly blocked Scarlett.
Scarlett stood in front of the hotel entrance. As the wind blew through, she crouched down on the ground, looking completely disheveled.
In the black Cullinan not far away, Tom was about to remind Daniel, but remembering Daniel's repeated orders not to mention anything about Scarlett, Tom closed his mouth again.
But clearly something had happened to Scarlett.
Wearing such thin dance clothes, why had she run out of the hotel barefoot?
Tom couldn't bear it and glanced at the rearview mirror, only to see Daniel in the back seat, his profile cold and stern, also looking out the car window.
That direction and his focused gaze made it obvious he had already seen Scarlett.
