Chapter 66 Daniel Signed the Divorce Agreement
Hearing it was Alice, Scarlett actually relaxed.
The one who should be worried now was probably Daniel.
Scarlett leaned close to his ear and mocked, "Why don't you let go? If she gets upset and something happens to the baby, I won't be responsible."
Daniel's grip on her waist tightened, but soon he released his hold on her.
Scarlett wanted to get off him quickly, but seeing how eager he was to avoid suspicion made her uncomfortable.
Feeling defiant and a bit wicked, she reached for the window button.
But her hand was suddenly grabbed by Daniel, his voice cold and harsh, "Drop your little schemes! Get off now!"
Scarlett's face went pale, feeling like she'd been slapped hard across the face.
She climbed off and returned to the passenger seat.
As soon as she sat down, Daniel rolled down the window.
Alice's smiling face appeared, her makeup perfectly done.
Last night Alice had lost followers like crazy, with netizens demanding she post donation receipts too.
In the end, the Brown Group's official website issued a statement saying that as the Brown family's daughter, Alice's charitable donations were all made together with the Brown Group.
The Brown family must have also paid to cool down the buzz, and the mockery finally died down.
You had to admit, Alice was tough. Right now, her face showed no sign of being affected by public opinion, her voice full of delight.
"Daniel, it really is you in the car. Scarlett's here too?"
Alice acted as if she didn't notice the tense atmosphere in the car, innocent and enthusiastic.
Daniel nodded at her and said, "Go wait for me in the office."
Scarlett couldn't be bothered to deal with Alice and didn't even turn her head. Hearing Daniel's words, she unconsciously pinched her fingertips.
So Daniel had made plans with Alice today.
No wonder he didn't have time to come to the café and sent Tom down first.
"Okay, I'll head up first." Alice nodded obediently.
She turned to leave, but then looked back, saying thoughtfully.
"Daniel and Scarlett take your time talking. I don't mind waiting a bit longer. The little desserts prepared in the CEO's office are really good, I wonder which shop they're from."
Daniel turned to look at Scarlett, "Which shop are the desserts from?"
Scarlett used to be a junior assistant in the CEO's office, handling odd jobs.
Before, when female clients came to the CEO's office, Scarlett would prepare the desserts and such, from a regular partner dessert shop.
Scarlett looked up with a smile, "LR."
Daniel stared at the smile on her lips and gave a casual instruction.
"Call them and set up a weekly delivery to the Brown Mansion."
Alice said sweetly with delight, "Daniel is so good to me. Sorry to trouble you, Scarlett."
She tilted her head and smiled at Scarlett, then waved and headed toward the elevator, her cheerful footsteps seeming to mock Scarlett.
Scarlett's smile froze on her face, but Daniel was still looking at her coldly, "Why haven't you ordered it yet?"
"Mr. Wilson might have forgotten, I'm no longer the errand girl in the CEO's office."
Daniel laughed coldly, "So what, can't I ask you to do something?"
Scarlett bit her tongue and nodded.
She took out her phone and called the dessert shop, efficiently ordering a year's worth of luxury delivery service for Alice, and paid for it.
"Is Mr. Wilson satisfied? Please reimburse me, a hundred thousand dollars, thanks."
She held her Facebook payment code up to Daniel.
But Daniel's expression turned mocking, "Did I say I'd reimburse you? Aren't you the one who wants to help me be with her? How come ordering some desserts for my future wife makes you feel wronged?"
Scarlett smiled provocatively, "Sign the agreement, and forget one year—when you two get married, I'll order ten years of desserts as a wedding gift."
She threw the divorce agreement in front of Daniel again.
Daniel's eyes grew even colder. He didn't take the agreement but opened Facebook and transferred a hundred thousand dollars to Scarlett.
The dessert order cost over twenty thousand dollars, netting her over seventy thousand.
Not a bad deal, but Scarlett's heart filled with bitterness.
She used to work so hard as a junior assistant, trying out dessert shops one by one before carefully choosing LR.
She wanted to serve his clients well so his work would go more smoothly and he'd have a more pleasant atmosphere for negotiations.
Her thoughtfulness toward him had ultimately been used to please his mistress.
Seeing he wouldn't cooperate today, Scarlett didn't want to stay longer. She grabbed the divorce agreement and reached for the door handle. Before getting out, she said casually.
"Mr. Wilson cares so much about Alice but won't divorce. Aren't you afraid I'll tamper with the desserts and get rid of Alice's baby?"
She pulled the door handle, but her shoulder was locked by a strong force.
Scarlett was violently thrown back into her seat. She frowned and turned her head to meet Daniel's cold, dark eyes.
"You wouldn't dare!"
Daniel had clearly hit a nerve, and his grip on Scarlett's shoulder was somewhat out of control.
Pain spread from her shoulder, but it couldn't compare to half the pain in her heart.
Yet Scarlett laughed, "What wouldn't I dare? You said it yourself, I'm Mrs. Wilson. Me dealing with the other woman's child is perfectly justified. Should I just let that bastard exist and become the laughingstock of all Shadow City?"
Daniel's eyes were sharp, even the corners twitching at her words.
"Shut up, that child is not a bastard!"
Scarlett's throat felt blocked, like it was stuffed with water-soaked cotton, unable to make a sound, just stubbornly staring at Daniel.
The car fell into dead silence.
Until Daniel laughed coldly and let go, "Scarlett, you're really vicious. All this, just because you want a divorce?"
Daniel suddenly snatched the divorce agreement from Scarlett's hand. He moved so fast that the paper's edge cut across Scarlett's palm, leaving a small wound.
"Fine, I'll sign it. Don't regret this!"
He grabbed a pen from the glove compartment, signed his name, and threw it at Scarlett.
"Thirty million dollars, transferred within a month. Don't disgust me with dirty, filthy money of unknown origin!"
Scarlett was a bit slow to react, staring blankly until Daniel shouted again.
"Get out before I change my mind!"
Scarlett snapped back to reality, grabbed the agreement, pushed open the car door and got out.
Daniel sat in the car, his deep eyes watching Scarlett clutch the divorce agreement like a treasure, running faster than a rabbit, disappearing from sight in an instant.
After leaving the parking garage, Scarlett's steps gradually slowed. Her back was covered in cold sweat, exhausted as if she'd fought a battle.
She opened the divorce agreement and stared at Daniel's signature.
He'd signed with such force that in two places he'd even torn through the paper, showing his anger.
He still cared about Alice and her child, couldn't bear for Alice to face any threat, and signed immediately when he heard she might harm them.
How ironic.
In the top-floor CEO's office.
When Daniel entered, Alice stood up from the sofa.
"Daniel, why didn't Scarlett come up? I didn't interrupt you two again, did I? Sorry, I didn't know Scarlett was there too."
She looked apologetic and nervous, but Daniel didn't look at her, walking straight to sit behind his desk, brief and to the point.
"What is it?"
Alice naturally heard his subtext—if there's nothing, get lost.
She clutched her bag strap. Though unwilling to leave like this, she could tell Daniel was in a bad mood.
She walked to the desk and placed several invitations on it.
"My solo concert is the day after tomorrow. I wanted to invite Daniel and your family to come watch. These are the invitations."
