Chapter 300 Is it the White Family

Chapter 300 Is it the White Family

Sarah's eyes widened with fury. Thinking about everything Scarlett had been through, she wanted nothing more than to tear Daniel apart.

What kind of husband had he been? What kind of father?

"Alton, let her go."

Daniel stood his ground, neither flinching nor moving.

His handsome face was as expressionless as still water, as he signaled Alton to release her.

"Daniel." Alton frowned, not daring to let go.

He knew Sarah's guts and her temper.

With her reckless streak, she would really hit him.

And if she hurt Daniel, even if Daniel didn't pursue it, the Wilson family would never let her off.

However, Daniel's gaze was too frightening, too oppressive.

Alton couldn't withstand the pressure and finally let go.

Sarah's fist clenched tighter and tighter. She swung, stopping just inches from Daniel's face.

She spat out viciously, "You want to get hit to ease your guilty conscience? You want Scarlett to soften up and forgive you again? Keep dreaming! I won't hit you. I want you to owe her forever! What you owe Scarlett, what you owe that child—you'll carry the debt for the rest of your life!"

Sarah gritted her teeth, withdrew her hand, and brushed past Daniel into the hospital room.

"Daniel, don't be too upset. You and Scarlett are both still young; you'll have another baby in the future."

Alton saw Daniel's face turn deathly pale and gloomy—a look he'd never seen in the thirty years he'd known him—and couldn't help but step forward to comfort him.

Hearing Alton's words, Daniel heard only Scarlett's voice echoing in his mind.

She had told him that without Bunny, there was no future for them—that all possibility was gone.

His heart constricted, and his expression darkened even further.

"Daniel?" Alton faltered, unsure of what he had said wrong. Why did his attempts at comfort only make the atmosphere around Daniel grow more oppressive?

Just then, the sound of sobbing from inside the room grew clearer.

Alton fell silent and stepped aside.

Even as an outsider, the sound was heart-wrenching.

He sighed, finally beginning to understand Daniel's hollow silence.

With Scarlett this heartbroken, a reconciliation seemed impossible.

After what felt like an eternity, the crying finally subsided.

Alton turned to check on Daniel, only to find the space beside him empty.

He jumped in shock. How could Daniel have vanished so suddenly?

Worried Daniel might be planning something drastic, Alton's heart raced.

At that exact moment, Daniel appeared in the corridor downstairs, flanked by several bodyguards in black.

He walked with a hurried, lethal grace, his entire body radiating a murderous aura.

At the end of the hall, several plainclothes police officers stood guard outside a room.

When the incident occurred, Steven had called the police, and passerby had reported it as well.

John, who had been seriously injured by the car, had been rushed to this same hospital for emergency surgery. He was now under police custody, though he hadn't yet offered any key information since waking up.

But just now Daniel had received news that John's injuries were too severe and he might not make it.

When they reached the room, the officers immediately stepped forward. The team leader said awkwardly.

"Mr. Wilson, the suspect is still being resuscitated. It's against protocol for you to enter. Please, don't make this difficult."

"Move aside!"

Daniel's expression was ice-cold. His gaze fell on them lightly, yet it carried an unstoppable authority.

The bodyguards behind him stepped forward, clearly prepared to use force.

The lead officer's forehead broke out in a cold sweat. Finally, he gritted his teeth and made his choice.

A dying suspect versus a victim with overwhelming power—it wasn't a difficult decision.

He signaled his subordinates, and they stepped aside.

Daniel strode in with his men. Inside, doctors and nurses were still crowded around the bed, fighting to save the patient.

John's head was wrapped in bandages, his face obscured by an oxygen mask; he was barely clinging to life.

Ray led two bodyguards forward, silently restraining the medical staff and escorting them out.

Daniel stepped to the bedside, ripped off the breathing mask, and dragged John bodily from the bed.

John hit the floor with a thud, making weak, wheezing sounds as his eyes fluttered open.

Through blurred vision, he saw Daniel, shrouded in a murderous aura. John's eyes widened, a rattling gasp escaping his throat.

"Talk! Who's behind you?"

John's face twisted in terror as he looked towards the door.

"Help... someone, help me..."

He tried to scream but his voice was barely a whisper.

That helplessness, that desperate fear of death with nowhere to turn—it was likely the exact same feeling Scarlett had when she begged him for mercy the night before

Daniel's cold gaze remained fixed on him. He grabbed the back of John's neck and drove a heavy punch into his abdomen.

John's liver, already severely damaged and recently operated on, ruptured; the incision began to bleed profusely.

The pain was so intense John's features contorted. His eyes were bloodshot, his face deathly pale, and his trembling gaze was filled with pure agony.

"Will you talk or not?"

Daniel didn't let go. His fingers sank into the wound, grinding against the flesh. Blood trickled through Daniel's fingers.

John's life was slipping away.

Even if he had to die, he didn't want it to be this agonizing, this tormented.

His lips trembled, "I... I don't know who he is. I really don't know... please..."

He wanted a quick end.

He turned his head weakly toward the door. This was a hospital; there were police right outside.

Even if he was a criminal, he shouldn't be treated like this.

But outside, it was completely quiet. No one came in.

Thinking of the pain Scarlett had suffered—the image of the child's body, bruised and curled up stiff—Daniel only regretted that death would be too easy an escape for John.

"Is it the White family?" Daniel demanded, driving another heavy punch into John's wound.

When Daniel finally stepped out of the room, his expression was eerily calm.

He held an alcohol wipe, methodically cleaning the blood from his fingers as he gave a cold instruction: "Go in and resuscitate him. Keep him alive."

The lead officer glanced inside.

John lay on the floor, his hospital gown soaked a dark, visceral red. It was impossible to tell f he was even breathing.

The officer quickly signaled the doctors. They lifted John back onto the bed, franticly connecting equipment, and beginning emergency treatment.

The defibrillator was used repeatedly. John coughed up blood violently until the machine finally flatlined with a long, steady beep.

After following protocol, the doctor emerged to announce that John had died despite their efforts.

Daniel signaled Ray to take the participating medical staff to a nearby room and keep them there.

The officer stepped forward, "Mr. Wilson, don't worry. Nothing happened today. My men will keep their mouths shut."

Daniel looked down at him, "Of course nothing happened. I'll have to trouble you all to continue guarding the suspect. Send more people. You absolutely cannot let him die."

The officer froze. John was already dead—what was there to guard?

Then, the realization hit him. Daniel wanted to create the illusion that John was still alive to bait the mastermind. If the person behind this panicked, they would eventually come to silence him.

"Yes, understood." the officer nodded.

Only then did Daniel head for the elevator. He didn't return to Scarlett's floor but went to the top level, where Benjamin's room was located. Years prior, when Ella was battling cancer, she had spent six months in this very hospital.

After her funeral was over, Benjamin's own health had begun to fail. Unable to let go of her memory, he had moved into Ella's former room, keeping her presence close.

Daniel arrived at the door just as it opened.

Waverly stood there in a white dress, clutching a bouquet of flowers.

Seeing Daniel, her heart leapt. She gripped the stems tighter.

"Dan... Daniel? what are you doing here? Tobias's baby wasn't developing well. The suburban hospital didn't have good facilities, so they transferred here this morning. That's when I heard about Scarlett. I was just about to go visit her."

Her voice grew tighter with every word. Daniel hadn't said a thing. He stood there like a gloomy ice sculpture, staring at her with a deathly coldness.

Waverly's face turned pale, her contracting with fear.
She felt her reaction was perfectly normal.

She bit her lip and stepped forward, feigning concern.

"Daniel, are you okay?"

But the next second, the flowers hit the floor. Daniel's frozen figure suddenly blurred into motion. He reached out, his fingers clamping like a vice around her slender neck.
