Chapter 298 Scarlett, You Hate Me

Chapter 298 Scarlett, You Hate Me

Scarlett paused and shook her slowly.

"I don't want to hear your explanation right now. Bunny in the incubator, right? I need to see Bunny."

As she spoke, she propped herself up to sit, struggling to throw off the covers and get out of bed.

Her body was weak, and just from the sheer effort, her forehead instantly became sweaty, and her body swayed.

Daniel felt his hearttear. He pressed her down firmly, cupped her face, and leaned his forehead against hers.

"Scarlett, you know what I mean. I'm sorry. I failed to protect Bunny, that's why Bunny..."

Before he could finish, Scarlett swung her hand hard at his face.

The slap was crisp but powerless.

She had no strength at all, couldn't even leave a mark on his face, yet Daniel felt like his soul was shaken by her strike.

"Daniel, you're so annoying! I told you to get out. Don't you understand? I need to see Bunny. Bunny must be looking for me. He only feels safe when he's with me. He must be so scared. Is he in pain? Is he cold? I need to find Bunny. Let go of me! Let go!"

Scarlett suddenly began struggling. She frowned, finding Daniel utterly ridiculous.

What was he even saying?

She couldn't understand a word, didn't want to understand.

She pushed him, shaking her head, kicking her legs wildly.

Her voice became more and more trembling and hoarse. Her eyes beneath the messy hair became increasingly red and burning, as if about to drip scalding blood.

"Scarlett, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Please, don't scare me like this."

Daniel leaned down and hugged Scarlett tightly as she became more and more hysterical and out of control. His arms tightened, afraid she would break free, yet afraid of hurting her.

His arms trembled from trying to control his strength, but he felt Scarlett in his arms trembling even more.

She was so thin and weak, as if she would shatter in his embrace with each tremor.

At this moment, their entire world seemed to be violently shaking, collapsing with a thunderous crash.

"Please, Scarlett, calm down. Your body can't take this."

Daniel was consumed by unprecedented helplessness and terror. His voice was hoarse as he tried to soothe her.

He kept kissing her damp hair, pressing against the top of her head. A drop of hot liquid fell onto her hair.

He pressed her cheek against his chest and felt the wetness spreading there too.

"Get out! Get out and let go of me! I don't want your apologies. Give me back Bunny. Give me back my Bunny!"

Scarlett beat and pushed at him.

Her nails scratched Daniel's neck and the side of his face. Unable to break free from him, hatred surged in her heart.

How ridiculous that he was telling her that her Bunny was gone.

Bunny had just been kicking inside her belly, calling for mommy to save him.

How could he be gone when she opened her eyes!

How ridiculous that her baby was gone, and he was telling her to calm down.

She couldn't calm down. She was filled with hate!

She hated so much she wanted to kill everyone, including herself.

She bit down on his neck, as if trying to bite through his blood vessel, devour his flesh and blood, to offset even one ten-thousandth of the grief and hatred in her heart.

But she was too weak and soon lost all strength.

Her struggling, trembling body went limp and slid down in Daniel's arms.

"Scarlett! Doctor! Doctor!"

Scarlett collapsed silently in his arms, as if she would never open her eyes again.

Daniel shouted. The doctor came quickly, examined Scarlett, and put her on an IV drip.

"Mr. Daniel Wilson, Mrs. Scarlett Wilson fainted from excessive grief combined with physical weakness. I've given her some sedatives. When she wakes up, she cannot be upset again."

After the doctor's instructions and departure, Daniel sat by the bed, holding Scarlett's hands against his lips. His complexion was no better than Scarlett's on the bed.

When Scarlett woke again, bright daylight filled the window.

Sunlight broke through the clouds—another day after the rain had cleared.

But her Bunny would never come back, hadn't even gotten to see this world.

Bunny was forever left in that stormy night of thunder and lightning.

Scarlett's eyes opened silently. Daniel had wrung out a towel and turned around to wipe the sweat from her body again, only to see Scarlett's hollow eyes.

She lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Those lively, clear, beautiful eyes were wide open but empty.

Compared to her earlier frenzy, she now seemed like a soulless doll, lying there to be manipulated.

"You're awake? You must be hungry. Is there anything you want to eat? How about I make you a bowl of noodle soup?"

Daniel froze for a moment, then put down the towel, leaned down, and asked in an extremely gentle voice.

His expression was calm, seemingly composed and collected, as if everything had passed and the sky had cleared after the rain.

Scarlett slowly moved her eyeballs to look at him. Her lips moved, making a sound.

Her voice was weak, very hoarse, very small. Daniel had to lean close to hear clearly.

The first thing she said to him.

She asked him.

"Daniel, where were you at that time?"

He had no answer.

She asked him again.

"The White family—has Alice's child been born?"

He had no answer to that either.

While Scarlett was unconscious, Daniel had received news.

Alice had a C-section and gave birth to a baby boy. Though premature , he had survived.

Alice was fine too. The police had already been notified. Once Alice's condition improved, she would be taken away by the police.

However, for Scarlett now, the former was a cruel ironic, and the latter no longer mattered.

Daniel's thin lips pressed his thin lips together as he held Scarlett's hand, rubbing it.

It was already summer. In the hospital room, Daniel had turned the heat up, but her hands were so cold.

He covered them, rubbed them, his voice hoarse.

"Scarlett, we'll have another baby."

Scarlett's eyelashes moved slightly as she looked coldly at Daniel before her.

Daniel was truly cruel and callous. Did they think having another baby could make up for everything?

But to Scarlett, Bunny was Bunny. Even if they had other children in the future, none of them would be her Bunny.

At this moment, Daniel's words weren't comfort to Scarlett—they were harm.

Moreover, his words were naively ridiculous, absurd and bizarre.

The corners of Scarlett's lips slowly curved into a sad arc as she said softly, "We?"

What "we" was left between her and him? What future?

"Daniel, from now on, it's either me or you, only strangers passing by. Without Bunny, everything is over."

Scarlett slowly withdrew her hand from Daniel's palm, bit by bit.

She thought she would be in tears, but her face was clean and dry, her eyes parched and painful.

Daniel's pupils shook violently. He wanted to close his fingers, to grip her hand tightly, but his ten fingers trembled, so powerless.

He could only watch helplessly as she withdrew, bit by bit.

His heart seemed to be hollowed out too. His bloodshot eyes gazed at her as he asked.

"Scarlett, you hate me now, don't you?"

His voice was so tense it trembled slightly, his throat as if strangled by a rope, unable to breathe.

And the other end of the rope was held in her hand.

She could let him live, or let him die.
