Chapter 189 Will Not Let Anyone Who Hurts You and Bunny Go
Daniel's voice carried suppressed emotions that Scarlett couldn't quite make out, nor did she want to. But gradually, she calmed down.
"Be good, let's talk."
Seeing her regain composure, Daniel breathed a sigh of relief and lowered his head to kiss Scarlett's forehead.
But the moment his lips touched her, Scarlett involuntarily stiffened.
A shadow flashed through Daniel's eyes. The neon lights from outside swept past, casting light on Daniel's stern face—half of his profile illuminated, half in darkness, strangely eerie.
Scarlett's heart shrank, but she finally spoke.
"Fine, go ahead. I'm listening."
Her face still showed resistance, looking like she had no choice but to comply. Daniel felt utterly powerless.
His Adam's apple bobbed, and finally, unable to hold back any longer, he gripped Scarlett's chin, his tone ice-cold and full of anger.
"Before that, shouldn't you explain to me what you meant by saying the child isn't mine?"
Scarlett was completely enraged by his questioning attitude, her cool eyes instantly burning hot.
"What's there to explain? Bunny isn't...!"
This time, her resolute words were all blocked by Daniel's sudden kiss.
Scarlett was held tight by him as he forcefully parted her lips, as domineering as ever, refusing to be pushed away.
Daniel felt her heart moving further away from him step by step. He wanted her to trust and rely on him like before, but his efforts always backfired.
He desperately wanted to prove something through this intimate gesture, but the deeper he kissed, the more he noticed Scarlett's indifference in his arms.
She didn't struggle, nor did she respond to him, like a soulless doll letting him do as he pleased.
Daniel's anger surged. He raised his hand, his large palm sliding into her hair, his thumb repeatedly caressing the sensitive area behind her ear.
His other large hand also lifted her hem, reaching in from behind.
Scarlett didn't know when he had become so familiar with her body.
She couldn't resist his bone-deep teasing and finally showed some reaction.
When his large hand slid from her side to her lower abdomen, overlapping with her hand covering her belly as they both caressed the baby, she could no longer control herself and burst into tears.
Daniel also withdrew from her lips and teeth, lightly rubbing her nose, saying.
"Take back what you said out of spite!"
He knew she was being spiteful and hadn't become suspicious, yet he still forced her to take back her words.
Scarlett felt both angry and wronged, biting her lip and refusing to speak.
Daniel's large hand was about to wander over her body again when Scarlett finally cried out at him.
"I wasn't wrong. Bunny has nothing to do with you. He's mine!"
Only then did Daniel's gloomy expression ease slightly. His palm pressed against Scarlett's lower abdomen as he said softly, "So that's what you meant. But how can you have a child by yourself? Yours alone? Can you conceive without sperm?"
Scarlett bit her lip, turned her head away, and said coldly, "The amniotic fluid was drawn. You can go verify the DNA if you want. Whose do you want to test? Ramon's or..."
Before she could finish, Daniel suddenly grabbed her face, turning it back to face him.
Scarlett couldn't make another sound. Daniel looked down at her.
"You never learn. Don't deliberately provoke me again!"
Scarlett's eyes reddened, making her small face look even paler.
Daniel felt a pain in his chest. He released his hand and said in a low voice, "I never doubted you. The amniotic fluid that was drawn is gone. No one will do any paternity test, and certainly no matching test."
Hearing this, Scarlett stared at him in a daze.
She was somewhat surprised. What happened today had hurt her psychologically far more than physically.
A paternity test was an insult to her.
A matching test would make her feel that Bunny was just a tool, that she had wronged Bunny by bringing him into this world in such a degrading way.
But Daniel said the drawn amniotic fluid was gone.
Scarlett felt somewhat touched and comforted, and her stiff body gradually softened a bit.
He actually understood her best, always knowing what she cared about and what she wanted.
He always knew where to strike at her weak spots.
If he wanted to be good to her, he could probably make her drunk on dreams and death, wishing she could cut out her heart to prove her love for him.
But he wouldn't. He always found ways to torment her.
Clearly realizing this, Scarlett felt utterly sad.
She pinched her fingertips, forcing herself not to fall into his false tenderness again, and looked at him.
"I don't know which of your words to believe anymore. Your mother said the paternity test was done with your permission."
Seeing Scarlett willing to communicate, Daniel still breathed a sigh of relief. He stroked her slightly disheveled long hair.
"Whether you believe it or not, I didn't know about today's events beforehand. I rushed to the hospital as soon as I heard the news, but unfortunately, I was still too late."
Scarlett's eyes moved slightly, her small face still cold. She spoke with a slightly trembling voice.
"But whether it's related to you or not, Bunny was harmed for no reason. You blame me for dancing regardless of Bunny's safety, but I've always taken good care of Bunny! It's you who's an incompetent father, not worthy of being Bunny's dad at all."
Scarlett had only felt terrible twice.
Once was when she heard about him and Waverly. Scarlett collapsed on the road, the pain making her think she would lose Bunny.
The other time was today. Scarlett would probably need to stay in bed for two or three days.
Daniel held Scarlett, accepting all her accusations and complaints without a word.
Daniel kissed Scarlett's eyebrows, nose bridge, and cheeks, saying in a low voice, "Honey, I'm sorry. It's true that I didn't take good care of you and Bunny.
What happened today—my mother wouldn't do this for no reason. There must be more to it. I'll investigate thoroughly and give you and Bunny an explanation.
I'm Bunny's father. Like you, I won't allow anyone to hurt our child, and I won't let anyone who hurts you and Bunny get away with it. Trust me, okay?"
His hand stroked Scarlett's cheek, his voice deep.
Scarlett smelled a hint of blood. She looked down and saw his palm was injured, stained with a lot of blood.
But his hand was fine when he first arrived at the hospital room. What happened?
Her eyelashes fluttered, but in the end, she didn't ask or show concern. She just nodded.
"Then you investigate. When you're done, send me back to Sarah's place."
"Okay. After I handle this, you rest and recover. When you're better, I won't force you to stay anywhere you don't want to be. For now, be good and don't be stubborn with me. Your health is important, okay?"
Scarlett nodded. She actually had her own suspicions.
Last time, Alice was forcibly put on the operating table by Magnolia and had her amniotic fluid drawn.
Yesterday, Scarlett had an argument with Alice at the restaurant, and today Scarlett was pressed onto the operating table and also had her amniotic fluid forcibly drawn.
Scarlett felt it was too much of a coincidence, as if Alice was behind it all.
She would trust Daniel one more time and see what he would do with Alice this time.
"Are you tired? Sleep."
Seeing Scarlett agree, Daniel's stern features finally relaxed.
He took her back into his embrace, adjusted his sitting position to make her more comfortable in his arms, and said gently.
Scarlett was indeed exhausted and had no energy to argue with him anymore.
She leaned in his arms and closed her eyes.
Daniel held her the whole way without letting go, and told the driver Otto to drive even more smoothly.
When they arrived at Regal Estate, Daniel covered Scarlett with a blanket, carried her with the blanket back to the bedroom, and gently placed her on the bed.
Daniel leaned down to tidy up the sleeping Scarlett's messy hair, kissed her forehead lightly, and adjusted the bedside lamp.
Only then did Daniel get up and leave the bedroom. He went downstairs where Ray was already waiting in the living room.
Seeing him come down, Ray stepped forward to report, "It was Jane toldMrs. Blair Wilson, saying that you and Mrs. Scarlett Wilson always used contraception. That's why the lady got the wrong idea."
"Who's behind Jane?"
Jane had no conflict of interest with Scarlett, so there was no reason for her to do such a thing.
Clearly, someone else was pulling the strings.
"Jane won't say. She only admitted that Mrs. Blair Wilson asked her to watch you and Mrs. Scarlett Wilson and report everything to Mrs. Blair Wilson.
But I found that Jane received a call from an unknown number this morning. The call record was deleted, but after data recovery, we tracked the location where the call was made—The Brown Mansion."
Daniel's face was blank. Clearly, this answer didn't surprise him at all.
He remembered that time when he fell ill with a fever, Alice had appeared in the bedroom at Regal Estate late at night.
Alice had said that when she arrived, the main door was open. It seemed Jane really deserved to die.
This wasn't the first time Jane had betrayed them.
Daniel's eyes were sharp as he strode out with Ray.
