Chapter 187 Daniel, This Child Is Not Yours
Daniel was sitting in the lounge area with Tyrell Jennings, chairman of the Jennings Group, finalizing the last contract for their joint development project. Hearing the sound, Daniel looked up. His handsome face showed no expression, but his eyes were cold.
As if to say: you better have a good reason, or I'll have you dragged out and killed.
Daniel had thrown up that morning and had no appetite all day.
A hungry Daniel, already fresh from a fight with Scarlett, was terrifying.
Tom's scalp tingled. He quickly walked over and whispered in Daniel's ear.
"It's Mrs. Scarlett Wilson... she's been forcibly taken to the hospital by Mrs. Blair Wilson..."
Before Tom could finish, Daniel's expression changed slightly. He quickly composed himself and extended his hand to Tyrell. "Sorry, some family business came up. The Star Group is willing to give up another one percent of the profit share. I'll have my staff discuss the rest with Mr. Jennings."
Hearing that Daniel was willing to give up another one percent, Tyrell's annoyance immediately vanished. Tyrell quickly stood and said with a smile, "Please go ahead, Mr. Wilson."
Before he could finish speaking, Daniel had already vanished from the office.
Tyrell stroked his chin, wondering what could have happened to make Daniel so anxious.
Though young, Daniel had always been steady and unshakeable in business. Tyrell had never seen him this flustered before.
In the operating room.
Hearing Blair's words, a bone-deep chill swept through Scarlett. Pinned down firmly, she suddenly lost the strength to struggle.
Scarlett stared at Blair in shock, her lips trembling.
"Daniel wouldn't..."
Blair laughed coldly. "No matter how much he loves you, he won't allow you to taint the Wilson family bloodline. What needs to be checked will, of course, be checked thoroughly."
Scarlett felt as if all the blood in her body had frozen. A cold laugh slipped from her lips as she closed her eyes in near despair.
She stopped struggling, knowing it was useless.
"Let me go. I'll cooperate."
Scarlett spoke with difficulty, each word forced out.
She was humiliated enough already and didn't want to be held down and handled like an object anymore.
The nurses looked at Blair, who gave a slight nod.
"Should've cooperated from the start."
The nurses stepped back a little, and the doctor's needle found its mark.
As the needle pierced her skin, Scarlett gripped the handrails on either side of the operating table with all her strength, her knuckles whitening.
She turned her head, a tear forming in the corner of her eye.
Bunny, I’m sorry. I couldn’t protect you.
All I can do is lie here weakly, trying to minimize the harm to you.
Am I useless? Are you disappointed in me, Bunny?
A loud crash - someone burst in.
But it was too late. The doctor had already completed the extraction and withdrawn the needle.
Scarlett lay there with her eyes closed, her knuckles trembling against the handrails.
She thought it was Daniel and didn't want to look at him.
However, footsteps quickly approached, pushing past the nurses surrounding Scarlett. The voice that spoke wasn't Daniel's.
"Scarlett? Are you okay? What are you doing? Ignoring the patient's wishes—do you have no medical ethics at all!"
It was Ramon.
Only then did Scarlett suddenly open her eyes. "Ramon?"
Ramon took Scarlett's hand, slipped an arm behind her shoulders, and bent down to help her sit up from the operating table, his voice full of concern.
"Are you alright? Sorry, I came too late."
After dropping Scarlett off, he'd gotten a call from a former colleague. The colleague mentioned he still had the two medical books Ramon had lent him to return, so he stopped by the hospital to pick them up.
Who knew he would overhear two nurses chatting, saying it wasn't easy being a rich man's wife, being dragged in for an amniocentesis for no good reason.
But when Ramon rushed over, he was still a step too late.
Seeing Scarlett in such a vulnerable state, Ramon felt a sharp ache of heartbreak and regret. He blamed only himself for not arriving a little sooner.
Or why hadn't he just walked her upstairs? Then she wouldn't have suffered this humiliation and hurt. She must have been so scared.
"It's okay, Ramon. I'm just glad you're here..."
At least it made Scarlett feel a little less helpless. A little less alone.
"It's you! Scarlett—is the child in your belly his?"
Blair stared at Ramon helping Scarlett up, her brows drawn tight, her face full of suspicion.
Scarlett clenched her fists, glared at Blair angrily, and said coldly.
"Yes, the baby in my belly has nothing to do with Daniel. Give up!"
Her Bunny was hers, and hers alone.
After what Blair did to Scarlett, Scarlett certainly couldn't let Blair off easy either.
What Blair cared most about now was whether the baby in Scarlett's belly could save Elliot, so Scarlett deliberately provoked Blair.
She wanted to make Blair furious!
"What are you saying? Say that again!"
At that moment, Daniel's familiar deep voice suddenly sounded from the doorway.
Scarlett's whole body went rigid. Slowly, she turned her head.
She saw Daniel, who had apparently arrived at some point. He looked as though he’d rushed over—his chest was still rising and falling. His entire presence radiated an icy, imposing force.
The operating room suddenly felt as if a wave of cold air had swept through it, plunging the space into complete silence..
Scarlett met Daniel's cold gaze, and it felt as though an invisible hand clamped around her heart, squeezing hard.
She hadn't expected him to hear those words.
His reaction—that look in his eyes—was nothing short of laughable.
Blair didn't believe her—could it be that even Daniel really doubted that Bunny wasn't his child?
Or was everything Blair had done carried out with Daniel's tacit approval?
Scarlett was too tired to sort it out. Since Daniel heard it, so be it.
She lifted raised her lips in a smirk at Daniel and said "Fine, I'll say it again. Daniel, this child was never yours. Are you satisfied now?"
A vein suddenly bulged at Daniel's temple, sharpening his already piercing gaze until it felt cold enough to cut.
"Daniel! You heard it, didn't you? She admitted it herself! She's absolutely shameless! While you were busy with work, she was out fooling around with other men—Mr. Meza even brought her home late at night…” After the initial shock, Blair finally came to her senses. Nearly mad with anger, her voice rose to a shrill pitch..
But before Blair could finish, Daniel cut her off with a deep voice. "Shut up!"
That stern shout, paired with his bloodthirsty hawk-like stare, made Blair tremble and fall silent at once.
Daniel stepped inside the room, moving toward Scarlett.
Scarlett didn't know what he intended, but immediately held onto Ramon, pressing her hand to her abdominal wound as she stood up, saying.
"Ramon, help me walk. I want to leave here."
She had no strength left in her body.
Ramon nodded and immediately took Scarlett's arm to support her, wrapping his other hand around her shoulder as he helped her up.
Watching Scarlett avoid him like the plague while leaning entirely on Ramon, a murderous look swirled in Daniel's eyes.
Daniel blocked the exit. Scarlett looked up at him.
"The amniotic fluid has been drawn. You got what you wanted. Can't I leave now? Or are you waiting for the DNA results so you can just get rid of my baby right here and now?"
Her face was pale, fine beads of sweat gathering on her forehead, and her whole body seemed strung tight with sharp, defensive edges.
Meeting her gaze, Daniel felt as if countless invisible needles were driving straight into his heart.
He suddenly clenched his fists, his lips moved slightly, but no words came.
