Chapter 167 Redo the Paternity Test
Daniel closed his eyes, trying to suppress his rising emotions. He was about to pull her back and continue lecturing her when the neon lights swept across Scarlett's face, revealing her pale complexion and the deep exhaustion in her eyes.
Remembering that she was pregnant and had just been frightened, Daniel raised his hand to pinch the bridge of his nose and decided to let her go.
The next day, Scarlett woke up in the master bedroom bed at Regal Estate.
She looked confused for a moment. Her last memory was from last night in the car.
Scarlett looked down and noticed her clothes had been changed. She felt fresh and clean—someone must have helped clean her up.
Her mouth felt strange too. Her lips hurt a bit, and there was a faint smell of disinfectant, as if someone had cleaned them thoroughly and scraped the skin.
"Mrs. Scarlett Wilson is finally awake. I've already checked on you twice. Breakfast is ready. You should eat quickly so you can take food to Mr. Daniel Wilson."
Jane pushed the door open.
"How did I get back last night?"
"Don't you remember? Mr. Daniel Wilson carried you back. He took care of you for a long time before going back to the hospital. He wouldn't let me help - he did everything himself. I don't know if his wound opened up again. He had no color in his face when he left."
Hearing Jane say this, Scarlett frowned, feeling a bit guilty and worried.
Scarlett thought that no matter what, she should be more honest and trusting with Daniel.
She got up immediately and hurried to the hospital with breakfast.
Scarlett hesitated at the hospital room door. She adjusted her emotions.
Last night's irritation was discarded. She was much calmer now.
She wanted to have a good talk with Daniel, to ask some questions clearly, otherwise she would always feel uncomfortable.
However, when she pushed open the door, she saw Daniel standing by the bed, already dressed in a three-piece suit, adjusting his tie, clearly about to be discharged.
Daniel turned around, took the food container from her hands and set it aside.
"Where's Jane? Why didn't you have her come with you?" He probed.
"I can carry this much. If Jane brought me here, she'd just have to go back by herself. Daniel, are you being discharged? Yesterday your wound..."
Before Scarlett could finish, Tom also walked into the room.
"Boss, everything's ready." He announced.
Scarlett frowned. "What's going on? What's so urgent?"
"Things at White Corporation are getting hard to contain. There's a joint press conference between the Star Group and White Corporation scheduled this morning. I need to attend in person."
Hearing it was about White Corporation, Scarlett knew Daniel had no extra time for her.
She just pressed her lips together and nodded. "Okay."
"What's wrong? Why are you in such a bad mood? Still sulking about last night?"
Daniel noticed that Scarlett was different today. He frowned, feeling a headache coming on.
She lied to him about not feeling well, went to a bar to hang out with seven or eight young men, and almost got into trouble. Now, after he had only given her a light lecture, she was the one getting angry?
Daniel bent down slightly and pinched her soft cheek, and said, "You spoiled little thing."
His tone was indulgent, but knowing she had been deceived, Scarlett couldn't tell how much of his affection was real, how much was fake sentiment, whether it was all just an act.
She lowered her head, picked up the thermos, and calmly avoided Daniel's touch.
"What about breakfast? Aren't you going to eat?"
"I'm running out of time. Be good and help me with my tie."
He handed the tie to Scarlett, and she took it.
Daniel bent down to cooperate. Scarlett hesitated for a moment but eventually accepted the tie.
Daniel's lips curved slightly as his deep eyes rested on Scarlett's face.
Scarlett bent down to straighten his collar before starting to tie the knot.
The sunlight was beautiful today. The winter morning light wasn't harsh or burning, but just right to make people feel warm.
Scarlett remembered the last time she tied his tie was in the car.
Back then, she hadn't imagined there would be a scene like this.
Her as his wife, tying Daniel's tie in the morning and seeing him off.
But Daniel never loved her. His attempts to keep her, his gentleness—they might all have other motives.
A bitter feeling settled in Scarlett's heart, but suddenly Daniel's arm wrapped around her waist.
Daniel pressed his forehead against hers, then kissed Scarlett's lips.
From shallow to deep, he kissed her tenderly and passionately, one large hand gently caressing behind her ear.
When they separated, Daniel's voice was slightly hoarse as he said, "Scarlett, I'm very happy."
Daniel's large hand gently rubbed her earlobe as he continued, "Because you put on those earrings again. They look beautiful. Don't take them off anymore."
Scarlett was slightly stunned. Yesterday when she returned to Regal Estate, she had put on the gardenia flower earrings he gave her.
She had personally cooked and brought food to the hospital, only to overhear what the bodyguards said.
And now she didn't know if putting the earrings back on was pointless.
Daniel clearly hadn't noticed Scarlett's emotions. His mind didn't seem to be on her, and his tenderness felt perfunctory.
He quickly released her and ruffled her hair. "I'm leaving."
After speaking, Daniel had already turned and walked quickly toward the hospital room door. Scarlett watched his back and suddenly said, "Daniel, can you come back to The Wilson Mansion early for lunch when you're done?"
They hadn't even finished talking.
Daniel stopped. He turned his head. "Missing me already? Okay, I'll come home early to keep you company."
Scarlett smiled faintly.
Daniel stepped out, and Tom followed. At the elevator, Daniel looked at his reflection in the elevator, examining himself carefully, then suddenly turned to stare at Tom.
Tom looked confused. Daniel's lips curved slightly.
"Mr. Green tied his own tie, right?"
Tom was very puzzled.
Daniel looked critical. "It's a bit crooked, not pretty enough."
After speaking, Daniel turned and entered the elevator first.
Tom quickly followed, feeling speechless inside.
If he wasn't mistaken, Daniel used to tie his own ties before too.
Once in the elevator, Tom still checked his reflection against the elevator wall.
Crooked?
It looked fine to him.
Tom still raised his hand to readjust it, but he felt frustrated by Daniel's behavior.
Especially since Tom had just gone through a breakup not long ago.
His body was being exploited by the capitalist, and now his mind had to be tormented by the capitalist too.
Too inhumane.
"Boss, when you left, I noticed Mrs. Wilson didn't seem very happy." Tom noted.
Daniel turned back. "She was clearly very happy."
Tom immediately said,"Boss, didn't you notice that when you didn't eat the breakfast she brought, her smile seemed forced?"
"Really? You're overthinking it. Put more thought into your work."
Tom fell silent.
How on earth did someone like Daniel manage to win Scarlett over?
Is it because he's rich and good-looking?
This damn superficial era.
Tom touched his face and decided to buy some expensive face masks after work and use them properly tonight.
Scarlett finished tidying up and was about to leave the hospital room when she saw Thora and Reid walking toward her.
Thora was holding a bouquet of flowers, and Reid was carrying some nutritional supplements.
Thora and Reid clearly saw Scarlett too and walked quickly toward her.
Looking at them, Scarlett suddenly remembered the hair sample she had obtained from Alice earlier. She still needed samples from Thora and Reid.
She needed to redo the paternity test.
